In a dramatically shifting global polit- ical landscape, the BC Council for Inter- national Cooperation (BCCIC) will be meeting with community leaders in Mer- ritt on Nov. 30, 1-3pm at the Civic Centre to discuss the new United Nations Sus- tainable Development Goals (SDGs), connections between this global agenda and local Merritt issues, and to identify the opportunities the SDGs present for provincial political engagement. BCCIC has held roundtable discus- sions in 29 BC communities to discuss the SDGs & how they relate to the work of local organizations. Among key findings was the potential for greater political en- gagement and more support from all tiers of government on the 17 goals. BCCIC will present key findings from the SDG roundtable meetings, the idea of a non-partisan political campaign to generate sup- port for the SDGs and the groups working on them across BC, and discuss the possi- bility of holding a non-partisan all-candidates meeting in Merritt.
