EAS: We wish to thank our sponsors under the Educational Adoption Scheme for sending their contributions during this last quarter which has enabled us to provide sponsorship for 234 of the 325 students under the scheme this year; we still require to get the remaining 92 students sponsored. 270 of these were sponsored last year and we are requesting last year’s sponsors the same, while we appeal to our well wishers to help us reach our target of 100% sponsored programme. Sponsorship amount is Rs.15,000/- per annum.

HCELS: Under this scheme, we had 157 cases carried forward from previous year, while of 106 new cases registered 71 cases have been sanctioned, the total case load under this scheme expected this year is 220. As mentioned earlier a sponsor can contribute Rs.50,000/- annually for 6 years and from the seventh year the repayments coming in will take care of one student each year thereafter; alternatively a one time (Corpus) donation of Rs.3 lacs towards this scheme will ensure, a year later that one student will be provided a loan scholarship for 6 years and from the seventh year one scholarship will emanate from the repayment as above and another as return on investment; in the latter case every seventh year an additional scholarship will get added.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRES:

Dharavi Training Centre: At the Dharavi Centre we have been working in collaboration with Women's India Trust for the last two years; in the present batch we have 14 students; while in the previous 3 batches, 40 students have completed the course. The other two courses that of Mehndi & Beautician (both 3 months courses) are being conducted independently by MESCO. In the last two batches which ended in July 2010 we

have trained students respectively in Beauty Culture and Mehndi application.

Mumbra Centre: At Mumbra Centre which is being run in collaboration with Fr. Agnel we have completed 2 batches each of the year long Electrician and Beautician courses and 32 students have been trained in the respective skills. While 12 of the students have started working as professional beauticians, one of these on the sales side and 3 are self employed; in case of the Electrician 25 of them have been employed, 5 with MSEB contractors and 20 with other contractors.

Most of these were unemployable last year, but now the lowest salary anybody is drawing is Rs.4,000/-, while the highest is drawing Rs.16,000/- p.m. From among those students who finished last year, the lowest who works with a contractor is drawing Rs.3,500/- while the highest is drawing Rs.15,000/-.

We have added one more course this year that of Garment manufacture where we hope to enroll another 30 students. We are trying with every passing year to improve our self sufficiency and minimize deficits, we realize that maybe three to four years down the line, we would be able to make the courses self sufficient, but for the present we invite some well meaning people to provide us the deficit for these courses. Our total deficits on the Mumbra Centre this year would be Rs.8,54,000/- on the three courses put together that of Electrician, Beautician & Garment manufacture, and this deficit will provide the skill training for a total of 118 students, that works to an average deficit per student of Rs.7,237/-.
