More than News
Dr. Ellsworth Kalas On October 7 and 8 the Holland Preaching Series is pleased to present Dr. Ellsworth Kalas as our guest preacher for our 25th event. The Holland Preaching Series has brought some of the very best preachers available within the United Methodist Church. Dr. Kalas is one of the most sought af-ter preachers and speakers in our church. He is the author of many books and Sunday school lessons. We are looking forward to his services coming up next weekend. On Sunday, Dr. Kalas will bring us “A Life Worth Living” at the 10: 50 a.m. worship service. That evening at 7:00 p.m. he will share with us “A Song Worth Singing". Dick Busby will play the piano and lead “Slane’” a men’s quartet featuring Eric Kerschen, Dick Busby, Curt Clark and Rusty Smoker. On Monday, again at 7:00 p.m., Dr. Kalas sermon title will be “A Gift Worth Giving.” Dale Thiele, pastor of the Medicine Lodge United Methodist Church, will lead songs and the Chaparral Choristers will present a few numbers for the evening. On Monday morning, Dr Kalas will address the pastors from our area at 10:00 a.m. Anyone will be welcome to attend. If you want to eat lunch with the pastors, please let the office know by October 2. The dinner will cost $5.00. Please come and allow God to bless you. Bring a friend or a family member to hear God’s word shared with us today through Dr. Ellsworth Kalas. Your Pastor, Rev. Terry L. McGuire

SMILE! A father wanted to read a magazine, but was being bothered by his little girl. She wanted to know what the United States looked like. Finally, he tore a sheet out of his new magazine on which was a printed the map of the country. Tearing it into small pieces, he gave it to her and said, ‘Go into the other room and see if you can put this to-gether. This will show you our whole country today…’ After a few minutes, she returned and handed him the map, correctly fitted and taped together. The father was surprised and asked how she had finished so quickly. ‘Oh,’ she said, ‘on the other side of the paper is a picture of Jesus. When I got all of Jesus back where He belonged, then our country just came together.’

We lost a man who was one of our local leading cititzens. James White lived in Anthony with his wife, Zella Myrtle and sons: Gary and Arden, and daughter, Joyce Boos. James was our past city superintendent for many years.
James was a member of the United Methodist Church right here in Anthony. He was a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge and a fifty year member of Order of Eastern Star. When James’s health failed him in 2008 he moved to an assisted living facility in Great Bend where he would be closer to his daughter, Joyce. James had 7 grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He will be missed by everyone who knew James.
