ET FISH BITES The Marlins continue a nine-game road trip to close out the first half of the season with the finale of this three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Right-hander Henderson Alvarez will be making his first career start and ap- pearance against the Redbirds, and he will be facing off against left-hander Marco Gonzales, who is making his first career start against the Fish. Miami entered the road swing coming off a 2-4 homestand, dropping three straight to Oakland and taking two of three from Philadelphia. The road trip will continue with a three-game series in Arizona starting tomorrow and a three-game set at Citi Field against the Mets (July 11-13) following an off-day on July 10. ABOUT YESTERDAY Miami staged its 15 th come-from-behind win yesterday, its eighth in the seventh inning or later, erasing a four-run, fourth-inning deficit in a 6-5 win over St. Louis. The Marlins appeared on the scoreboard in the first inning after Casey McGehee drove in Christian Yelich, who singled to center to start the game. The Cardinals responded with a run of their own in the first, and erupted for four runs in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead. In the sixth, Yelich connected for his seventh home run of the season, a three-run shot to center field to move Miami within one run. In the ninth, McGe- hee stepped up again and drove in the game-tying run with a single to right field. Pinch-hitter Jeff Baker followed with an RBI single to left to give the Fish the lead. Donovan Solano tallied three hits for the second straight game, while McGehee also added a three-hit game to his ledger. Andrew Heaney started for Miami, working 3.2 innings and allowing five runs on eight hits (two home runs) with three walks and one strikeout. Mike Dunn (6-4) earned the win in relief, and Steve Cishek notched his 19 th save of the season. VS. THE CARDINALS Miami dropped the 2013 series against the Redbirds, 2-4, which included the Fish being swept at Busch Stadium from July 5-7. Last night’s win snapped a four-game skid vs. the Cardinals, and a six-game slide here at Busch Stadium. The Marlins have a 35-48 record in St. Louis, including a 10-16 mark at the newest rendition of Busch Stadium, while also trailing the overall series, 65-97. UP NEXT After today’s game, Miami will head west to the Valley of the Sun for a three-game set against the Arizona Dia- mondbacks. The Fish dropped the 2013 season series to the D-backs, 2-4, going 1-2 at both Marlins Park and Chase Field. The Marlins have gone 21-36 all-time in Phoenix, and trail the overall series, 49-66. Today, the Club recalled from rehab and reinstated INF Adeiny Hechavarria from the 15-day DL and rein- stated RHP Tom Koehler from the paternity list. ALVAREZ ACING ASSIGNMENTS Henderson Alvarez has been the rock of the rotation over the last six weeks of the season. In eight starts since May 22, Alvarez has gone 3-0 with a 1.01 ERA, allowing just six earned runs in 53.1 innings, while holding opponents score- less four times. He ranks second in the Majors in ERA in that span, just behind Clayton Kershaw (0.97), and in front of Felix Hernandez (1.30), Jake Arrieta (1.58) and Chris Archer (1.88). From that same date, the rest of the rotation has posted a 7-14 record and 5.47 ERA (179.1 IP/109 ER) with just three scoreless appearances. WORTHY OF WINS In Henderson Alvarez’s first five starts of the season, the Marlins went just 1-4. Over his last 12 starts, the Marlins have gone 11-1, and have won each of the last nine games he has started. The nine consecutive team wins ties the lon- gest streak by a starting pitcher in Marlins’ history: the Fish also won nine-straight starts by Chris Hammond from May 19-July 2, 1993. - Elias TRAVELING HIT PARADE Yesterday, Casey McGehee extended hit road hitting streak to 19 games, which is the longest current road hitting streak in the Majors. The 19-game road run is tied for the second-longest in Marlins history, behind Luis Castillo’s 27 in 2002. Cliff Floyd (2001) and Greg Dobbs (2012) also had 19-game road hitting streaks for the Fish prior to McGehee. It also marks the third-longest road streak in the Majors this season, tying Jonathan Lucroy, behind a 21-game run by Robinson Cano and a 20-gamer by Carlos Gomez. - STATS LLC CASEY AT THE BAT Casey McGehee ran his current hitting streak to 12 games with his first-inning single yesterday, establishing a new career-best. He has recorded at least one hit in 23 of his last 24 games, batting .374 (43x115) with seven doubles, 15 runs scored and 16 RBI since June 4. His 43 hits in that span leads the Majors, ahead of Jose Altuve (42) and Adrian Beltre (42), while his average ranks third in MLB behind Altuve (.389) and Beltre (.385). TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT The Marlins improved to 20-14 in one-run games following yesterday’s 6-5 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. • Alvarez takes the mound for his first career start and appearance against the Redbirds, while looking to extend his current winning streak to a career-long four decisions.

• The Marlins have won his last nine starts overall. According to Elias, that is tied for the longest streak in Club history, along with a stretch of nine straight wins in starts by Chris Hammond from May 19-July 2, 1993. The Marlins were 1-4 in Alvarez’s first five starts of the season, but have gone 11-1 since then.

• Finished June tied with Garrett Richards for the third-best ERA in the Majors at 1.05 (34.1 IP/4 ER). Trailed only Clayton Kershaw (0.82) and Jake Arrieta (0.92).

• His 2.33 for the season ranks sixth among MLB starters, and fourth in the NL.

• Has not allowed a home run in 62.1 innings, spanning his last nine starts. Last home run allowed was a lead-off homer by Will Venable on May 11 at San Diego. According to Elias, that is the longest single-season homerless streak of his career, surpassing a 49.0-inning run from July 4-August 11, 2013.

• Since start of 2013, 0.26 hr/9 rate is lowest of any Major League starter (min. 500 batters faced), ahead of Matt Harvey (0.35) and Anibal Sanchez (0.40). Has allowed four home runs in 17 starts this season, already more than he allowed in 17 starts in 2013 (2). So far in 2014, ranks third among NL starters (seventh in MLB) in hr/9 (0.33), behind Andrew Cashner (0.24) and Adam Wainwright (0.29).

• Since May 22, he has not allowed a run in four of his eight starts, posting a 1.01 ERA (53.1/6). That is the second-lowest ERA in the Majors since that date (min. 41.2 IP), behind Clayton Kershaw (0.97) and ahead of Felix Hernandez (1.30).

• Did not issue a walk for 23.1 innings, spanning from May 22-June 15.

• He ranks 11th among National League starters with a bb/9 rate of 1.75.

• Had a scoreless-innings streak of 27.0 innings at home snapped on June 15 vs. Pittsburgh. Notched two shutouts during that streak, on May 6 vs. Mets and June 3 vs. TB.

• Leads the Majors this season with three shutouts (all at home), and is tied with Johnny Cueto, Dallas Keuchel, Masahiro Tanaka and Adam Wainwright for most complete games (three). Has recorded four shutouts in last 18 starts, including no-hitter on final day of 2013 season. This season, shut out Seattle on April 19, the Mets on May 6 and the Rays on June 3.

• With the Tampa Bay shutout, became the first pitcher in MLB history to toss three consecutive shutouts in Interleague play.

• Made 17 starts for Marlins in 2013, posting a 5-6 record and 3.59 ERA in 102.2 innings pitched (41 ER). Began season on 60-day disabled list with inflammation in right shoulder, coming off DL and making first start on July 4 at Atlanta.

• Tossed first career no-hitter and second career complete game on 2013 sea-son’s final day against Detroit to earn National League Player of the Week honors. Marked fifth no-hitter in Marlins’ history and first since Anibal Sanchez on September 6, 2006 vs. Arizona. Marked 282nd in Major League history and became one of six Venezuelan pitchers to have no-hitters, joining Wilson Alvarez, Sanchez, Carlos Zambrano, Johan Santana and Felix Hernandez.

• According to STATS LLC, Closing Day no-hitter marked first time in Major League history a no-hitter was secured on a walk-off wild pitch and just fourth no-hitter (including combined) to occur on final day of season. In addition, according to Elias, was just fourth time in Modern Era a no-hitter (combined no-hitters not included) ended on a walk-off.
