Sarah Himschoot Midterm Project I decided to pick the song “Simple Man” by Shinedown and use a simple, calm and thoughtful setting and feeling. I used the Sepia for each picture to create a older sort of antique visual aesthetic. The song is about a man learning to live a simple life and still be happy. The first picture shows a man holding a photograph of his mother remising on all the things she told and taught him about life. I wanted to capture the relationship between him and his mother through his facial expressions and the picture. The second picture is of a long country road. I took a picture of a long quiet country road to capture the lyrics “Take your time don’t live too fast, troubles will come and they will pass”. It is kind of a metaphor for a long journey through life. Saying not to regret anything and life is short so live each day like it’s your last. For the lyrics “you’ll find a woman, you’ll find love, I created a picture of a man laying there thinking about how this woman in his life is all he loves. She is laying next to him with a rose on the ground as another symbol of love. This is supposed to show that his life is so simple and composed with this woman that he loves so much. It shows that he is just content with life because he is with her. The Sepia aesthetic captures nothing else but her and him and the rose and how simple everything is. The fourth picture is of a man sitting outside by himself in a chair. I wanted to capture him sitting thinking by himself thinking about life. Everything in the picture is simple and not clustered. Not much is going on. The picture focuses on him and nothing else. The last picture I just wanted a picture of a man straight on to demonstrate a regular simple kind of man. I believe the Sepia aesthetic gives all the pictures a care free but interesting atmosphere. It tells a story of a simple man living a simple kind of life with no worries, pain, or complexity.

Sarah Himschoot Midterm Project

I decided to pick the song “Simple Man” by Shinedown and use a simple, calm and thoughtful setting

and feeling. I used the Sepia for each picture to create a older sort of antique visual aesthetic. The song

is about a man learning to live a simple life and still be happy. The first picture shows a man holding a

photograph of his mother remising on all the things she told and taught him about life. I wanted to

capture the relationship between him and his mother through his facial expressions and the picture.

The second picture is of a long country road. I took a picture of a long quiet country road to capture the

lyrics “Take your time don’t live too fast, troubles will come and they will pass”. It is kind of a metaphor

for a long journey through life. Saying not to regret anything and life is short so live each day like it’s

your last. For the lyrics “you’ll find a woman, you’ll find love, I created a picture of a man laying there

thinking about how this woman in his life is all he loves. She is laying next to him with a rose on the

ground as another symbol of love. This is supposed to show that his life is so simple and composed

with this woman that he loves so much. It shows that he is just content with life because he is with her.

The Sepia aesthetic captures nothing else but her and him and the rose and how simple everything is.

The fourth picture is of a man sitting outside by himself in a chair. I wanted to capture him sitting

thinking by himself thinking about life. Everything in the picture is simple and not clustered. Not much is

going on. The picture focuses on him and nothing else. The last picture I just wanted a picture of a man

straight on to demonstrate a regular simple kind of man. I believe the Sepia aesthetic gives all the

pictures a care free but interesting atmosphere. It tells a story of a simple man living a simple kind of life

with no worries, pain, or complexity.

Simple Man By

Shinedown

Mama told me when I was young Come sit beside me, my only son And listen closely to what I say.

And if you do this It will help you some sunny day.

Take your time... Don't live too fast,

Troubles will come and they will pass. You'll find a woman and you'll find love,

And don't forget that, There is someone up above.

And be a simple kind of man.

This is sort of the aesthetic I was trying to capture. The simplicity of a man or in this case four men. They are thinking about life their purpose in it.
