Midterm Reflection

TRANSCRIPT

Zachary Foster26 October, 2015My eportfolio, at its current stage, contains my literacy narrative along with the altered book as well as my genre analysis. Each writing contains drafts and the process work. The two main writings, literacy narrative and genre analysis, required two different styles of writing. With the literacy narrative being a personal story written in chronological order and the genre analysis being an application of criteria for a specific genre, my writing style had to be adapted to each writing, but my writing style has not changed much. Though there were not issues when writing the two different papers, I had to think differently and understand my wiring style well enough to make it work for both writing prompts. Through the process of writing the two major papers along with the mini assignments that followed, I did not run into significant issues that prevented me from completing them with confidence nor did I learn much more than I already knew about my writing style. The only issue I had, which I believe has been improved, was elaborating on idea without being redundant. By consciously thinking about it while writing and revising paragraphs after writing the first draft, I believe I minimized this issue in my papers Ive written for my eportfolio. Other than this issue, my writings have just been an extension and confirmation of my previous knowledge of my writing style. I did not change the way I wrote from the first paper to second, however, my thought process and the way I viewed paragraphs were always changing even though its not physically present in my writings. My thought process was similar in each wiring, but through revising my own work and through peers reviewing and commenting on my work, I was able to see different ways of re-wording and structuring of paragraphs. Peer reviews were the biggest benefits to my revision process. Peer reviews emphasized certain areas of my writing where I could improve my wording or structuring. The suggestions were not just suggestions I could substitute for my current version, but these also provided me with a new perspective of writing. In my literacy narrative, for example, I was given suggestions on ways to explain or elaborate more on paragraphs where I vague. My perspective when writing each paper and each paragraph would change, giving me the opportunity to see another side and appeal to the reader. Peer reviews and my revision work positively affected my outlook on my writing process, but neither changed my writing significantly. My literacy narrative is my best writing, even though it was the first piece of writing, because I had more knowledge on the subject and the peer revision provided me with the readers perspective, allowing for a more suffice revision process. More revision was completed in my literacy than other writings in the eportfolio. The biggest revision was adding an additional paragraph, which summed up the main idea, making it more clear to the reader. Even though I havent had issues affecting my writing significantly, revision has improved the way I see my writings. My writing has not changed, but has been an extension of what I already know. My eportfolio displays how peer suggestions and my revisions affected my final draft for each writing piece.
