WHO IS DURGA SHAKTI NAGPAL ? DURGA SHAKTI NAGPAL is an

officer in the Uttar Pradesh cadre of Indian

Administrative Services. She is presently posted as Joint Magistrate of Kanpur(Rural).

BACKGROUND

CAREER Nagpal initially was in the Punjab cadre of the

IAS. She joined the Mohali district administration in June 2011, and served there for fourteen months.

In August 2012, she moved to the Uttar Pradesh (UP) cadre as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Sadar, Noida, after marrying Abhishek Singh.

She was later appointed as the SDM in Gautam Budh Nagar.

She came into public notice after acting against the sand mafia in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh by forming special investigation teams to stop the illegal sand-mining in the Yamuna and Hindon river banks.

DISTRICT MAGISTRATE REPORT Nagpal did not demolish a wall of

any religious structure, in fact there was no religious structure in place.

On being warned by Ms. Nagpal of the structure being constructed on government land, the local residents decided to dismantle the constructed wall themselves

The report also says that there was no communal tension or the possibility of any clashes between religious communities

SUPREME COURT ORDER "NO NEW TEMPLES, MOSQUES,

Mr. Bhati was shown in the video saying that after he found out about the plans to tear down the mosque wall, his phone calls to his party chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav, and

Akhilesh Yadav, meant Ms. Nagpal was suspended within 41 minutes.

A day earlier, Bhati had visited Kadalpur & given Rs. 51,000 for construction.

About Suspension Revoked :

Durga Shakti was suspended on 28 July 2013, a day after she allegedly demolished a wall of an under-construction mosque in Kadalpur village.

She met Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on 21 September 2013 for the first time since her suspension.

Her suspension was revoked by the UP government on 22 September 2013.

About Suspension Revoked :

It is claimed that she came and apologized that it was her mistake for approaching the media first.

She wasn’t given her previous post back.

Durga Shakti Nagpal posted as joint magistrate of Kanpur after revocation of suspension.

Conclusion :

It puts up a lot of questions in our minds like : It was her job to check on illegal

mining activities. Has she been suspended for following her duties?

Was the UP government pressurized by sand mining mafia to suspend IAS officer Durga?

Why she wasn’t returned to her previous post?

Nagpal has put a question to dignity to the civil service that was once known as the 'steel frame' of governance.

She had enough courage to take on the criminals and the crooked politicians, despite knowing the consequences of their action.

Its officers like her that restore our faith in the system and tell us that all is not lost.
