These communities of disciples desire to build upon what is learned in worship by connecting with each other in fellowship and mission that springs from the study of God’s Word. Join one this month! Please note the Journey class for young adults has been moved to the Parlor and the First Look class has been moved to the Formal Dining Room. WEDNESDAY ADVANTAGE CLASSES Wednesday Advantage classes enable you to learn and engage with others on a variety of biblical themes and subject areas. Plan to come on Wednesdays— lunchtime or evenings—during the Fall/Winter Semester. Evangelism and Missions, Brian Stewart SURGEONS FOR SIGHT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Surgeons For Sight is a non-profit Christian organization that provides eye screenings, glasses, and surgery for homeless and low income people in Greenville. SFS, a ministry that FPC supports, is one of the non-profits that will receive money from Fall For Greenville in October. To benefit, SFS needs to provide approximately 600 volunteer hours for the festival. We are looking for those that feel led to commit to a 4-5 hour shift during the weekend of October 11-13. There is a one-hour orientation session on Sunday, October 6. Interested? Email Felicia Murphy at [email protected]. “FEED OUR CHILDREN” AT HOLLIS Did you know that 99 percent of Hollis Academy students rely on free or reduced school lunches for their “meals of the day” during the school week? First Pres wants to help. Our goal is to provide weekend meals for at least 110 children. It only takes $245 to feed a child every weekend for the entire school year ($7 a week for 35 weeks). Donations of any amount are being collected through Sunday, September 29. Make checks payable to First Presbyterian Church (earmarked “Feed Our Children”), and place in the offering plate or mail or bring to the church office. September 15 is Missions SundayGuest Preacher Rev. Blair Carlson: “Does Evangelism Have a Future?”

Worship Services—8:30am and 11:00am, Sanctuary; Ignite—10:45am, Fellowship HallThis Sunday, September 15, the Rev. Blair T. Carlson will be joining us for Missions Sunday and will be sharing his work in Africa. Rev. Carlson is the founder and executive director of GoodWORD Partnership. Being the son of missionary parents in China, at birth he was given the Chinese name Ga Po Chuen, means “preach good things around the world.” This name was foundational in his call to evangelism. From 1974 to 2000, Rev. Carlson worked with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, spending 18 of those

named Lausanne’s Senior Associate for Proclamation Evangelism. In this role Rev. Carlson, along with evangelists in other parts of the world, is spearheading Mission World: Africa and Beyond, a global evangelistic project arising out of the Congress. GoodWORD Partnership carries out its work of serving indigenous evangelists through all aspects of mission preparation, leading Evangelism Training Conferences for church leaders, and networking and mentoring evangelists in their ministry.

Rev. Carlson is ordained in the Church of England (Anglican), and served as a local pastor in the UK from 2003 to 2005. From 2006 to 2010, he served as Congress Director for Cape Town 2010, sponsored by the Lausanne Movement, and in 2011 was
