    Our Mission
The Mission of KIDS IN CAMP is to make the wonder of a camp experience available to kids from all backgrounds. As they learn about themselves and others in a camper-focused program, they gain positive memories that will last a lifetime.

The camp experience teaches cooperation, acceptance of others, sportsmanship, tolerance and an environmental ethic in a unique way that is impossible to duplicate elsewhere. Each year KIDS IN CAMP will sponsor children to attend one of over 300 camps throughout Ontario, all accredited by the Ontario Camps Association.

Our Vision
Every child deserves the opportunity to play, have fun, and make friends in a safe camp environment. Our vision is that no child would be prevented from attending camp due to financial considerations. We are committed to helping as many children as possible participate in this unique opportunity.

2014 was another noteworthy year for Kids in Camp. Being just our s ixth year in operat ion, we continued to grow and mature as a charity, with our goal to send as many deserving kids as possible each summer to Ontario Camps Association accredited camps. We are a charity for all OCA camps.

As a valuable component of our ongoing growth and development, during 2014 the Board undertook a Strategic Planning Retreat. Saturday November 1 was an amazing day with all eight KIC Board Members meeting together with our Facilitator and eight especially-invited participants to brainstorm, share and work as one to mould and shape ideas to help guide and drive KIC forward. The depth and extent of OCA camping experience in the room was incredible. Following the Retreat, the Board received a "Summary of Strategic Directions for Consideration and Action". The Board wasted no time in beginning to take action. One notable and important undertaking saw the hiring, on March 2, 2015, of our first paid employee, a part-time Administrative Assistant. We welcome Michael Bakker to our team.

KIC continues to be blessed with dedicated and committed volunteers and wonderful donors, fundraising partners, supporters of all KIC-related events, and corporate sponsors. Thank you all! A special shout out of appreciation to the many OCA accredited camps that join with us to provide the summer experiences that last a lifetime. On our website (www.kidsincamp.com), under the Campership link, you can read heart-warming Camper Stories and A Mother's Story.

We look forward to working with even more OCA accredited camps in 2015 to send even more deserving kids to camp.

    QUOTES FROM 2014 CAMPERS

  • Pass The Music On #2 On Sunday November 30, 2014 at the Glenn Gould Theatre, CBC Headquarters in Toronto, about forty participants from seven camps performed before an audience of three hundred. The performers impressed and delighted their audience with a variety of entertainment including group and solo singing, dancing, bands and drumming. The performers had been selected by the partner camps during the previous summer as the best talent to represent their camps. These finalists were then rated by a panel of expert judges. Highlights from the 2014 event are available at www.passthemusicon.com.

The event raised $42,000 for KIC through ticket sales, partner camp donations and generous individual donors.

The great success of this event is largely owing to the commitment and effort of the planning committee: Jonny Lightman, Chair, Elaine Cole, Sol Birenbaum, Jian Magen, Laura Cappe, Howie Grossinger, Sari Grossinger, Eric Shendelman and Garry Cummins with assistance from Jeff Bradshaw and Rose Attard.

The participation of the partner camps: Walden & Madawaska, Robin Hood, Manitou, Crestwood Valley, New Moon, Tamarack and Wenonah is greatly appreciated.

The next Pass the Music On event with even more talented camps and campers is scheduled for November 29, 2015 at the Glenn Gould Theatre.

Kids in Camp threw its best party yet on the evening of May 1, 2014 on board the Captain Mathew Flinders. With camp songs playing quietly in the background, the crowd circulated in the upper deck lounge enjoying a drink and snacks while greeting friends and viewing the many silent auction items.

At 7:00 p.m., Captain Duncan and his crew cast off and we began our gentle cruise of the Toronto harbour. Some passengers wandered outside to stroll the deck and view the cityscape while others socialized inside. Soon the aroma of dinner wafting up the stairwell enticed the passengers to the dining room below and the delicious buffet dinner being served. As darkness fell and the bidding escalated, we enjoyed the spectacular view of the Toronto skyline in all its nighttime splendor.

KIC is grateful to the efforts of Barb and Peter Gilbert and their enthusiastic committee: Margaret Bernardo, Pat Birnie, Brian Blackstock, Jen Dundas, Jill Dundas, Janet Fine, Barb Hnatiak, Polly Hodgetts, Bev Jahnke, Phil Legate, Payge Mildebrath, Ellen Nash, Catherine Ross, Megan Snape and Patti Thom.

We sincerely appreciate the many guests who attended in support of KIC and the generosity of the following individuals and businesses who willingly donated silent auction items: Barberian’s Steakhouse, Brian Blackstock, Debbie Bowles, Gene Canning, Elaine Cole, Cricklewood Orchards, Dance As You Go Pottery, Barb and Peter Gilbert, Barb Hnatiak, Brenden Hnatiak, Hoselton Sculptures, Rob Huffman, Ray Kettlewell, L’Arche Daybreak Studio, Kim Lugsdin, Joyce McDonald, Phil Manuel and June Rankin, Polly Marston, Beverly Moffett, Kimberley Nash, Oconto Paddles, Catherine Ross, Saugeen Shafts, Scholastic Canada, Shendy’s Swim Centre, Bob Smith, Kim Smith, Megan Snape, Sunny Rock Bed & Breakfast, Tallis Choir, Mary-Ellen and Rex Taylor, Think Muskoka Inc., Thirty One Gifts Canada

The event raised a total of $4,100.00 to enable many deserving campers to enjoy the benefits of a summer camp experience.

ALL ABOARD FOR KIC!CAMPERS HAVE TALENT!

  • The Fifth Intercamp Classic was held on Monday May 19, 2014 at the Powerade Centre in Brampton. Close to 1500 attendees watched or participated in a variety of sports, enjoyed great food, tried their luck in the annual raffle, played on the inflatables and explored the tent of event partner, Yo Sox!

Seventy-six teams with a total of 800 players participated: 18 Softball, 32 Handball and 26 Flag Football. Over 100 volunteers supported the event.

We express our thanks for the efforts of organizer, Josh Howard, the strong support from the camps that fielded teams, the players, who are also fundraisers, and the many volunteers, sponsors and donors. As a result, many more children will enjoy the happiness and growth that a camp experience brings.
