Moisture Situation Update – July 7, 2015 Precipitation received over the past 7 days, as of July 7, 2015-see map -1 Since July 1 st significant storms (10 to 45 mm) have brought much needed moisture in the central east and eastern portion of the Northern Region extending to most portions of the Central and Southern Regions. Isolated pockets in the northern and central east portion of the Peace Region received 5 to 15 mm. Growing season precipitation accumulations April 1, 2015 to July 7, 2015-see map 2 Growing season precipitation along the Foothills and southwestern portion of the Peace Region varied from 120 to 200 mm, rapidly grading down to 40 to 60 mm range, across most portion of the province, with the exception of isolated pockets with 10 to 40 mm accumulation. Growing season precipitation accumulations relative to long term normal as of July 7, 2015- see map-3 Growing season precipitation accumulation relative to long term normal, going back to 1961, across most of the plains area of the province varied from low to extremely low with the exception of record low accumulations in isolated pockets, especially in the counties east of Calgary City extending to Special Area 3, as well as in isolated pockets in the Northern and Peace Regions. Soil moisture reserve relative to long term normal as of July 7, 2015 - see map 4 Soil moisture reserve under spring wheat continued to be the lowest in most portion of the Northern Region, as well as in northern portion of the Peace Region, varying from low to record dry in some isolated pockets. On the other hand, soil moisture reserve in most part of the rest of the Regions improved, varying from moderately low to near normal conditions with the exception of isolated pockets with low to very low moisture level. Temperature conditions relative to long term normal - during the first week of July, 2015 see map 5 Average daily mean temperature from July 1 to July 7 varied from moderately warm, across most portion of the province to near normal in the eastern portion of the province, with the exception of warm conditions in isolated pockets.
