2018 GENERAL ELECTION RESULTS CONT...

2

MARION COUNTYIPS Capital Referendum - PASSED (74%)

IPS Operations Referendum - PASSED (70%)

MIBOR paid close attention to this issue as education is one of the top factors in where people choose to live. We played a significant role in reducing the amount of property tax dollars requested from property owners in the district and supporting budget and operation efficiency to maximize the use of funds collected. The final referendum offered a better balance between the impact on property owners and the benefits to the IPS school system, and Marion County as a whole. MIBOR continues to stay engaged to ensure implementation is successful.

IPS SCHOOL BOARDAt-Large, Mary Ann Sullivan - LOSS (42% to Susan Collins)

District 3, Evan Hawkins - WON (52%)

District 5, Dorene Hoops - LOSS (40% to Taria Slack)

MONTGOMERY COUNTYCounty Commissioner Dist 2, Jim Fulwider - WON (65%)

County Council Dist 3, Mark Smith - WON (65%)

These races were significant because Montgomery County is one of the last of our counties without planning and zoning. This was the top issue for both races. These results demonstrate that citizens are ready to move forward in this process. Currently, without planning and zoning, there is nothing to prevent development that can have a significant negative affect on property rights

and property value, like wind farms, landfills, gas stations and more. With a comprehensive plan, citizens in these communities will have the protection they need for their private property rights and their investment. MIBOR has and will continue to support the current efforts to adopt the county’s first comprehensive plan.

RPAC-SUPPORTED CANDIDATES WHO WON THE PRIMARY ELECTION AND WERE UNCONTESTED IN THE GENERAL ELECTION:

HANCOCK COUNTYCounty Council Dist 3, Jim Shelby

JOHNSON COUNTYCounty Commissioner, Kevin Walls

County Council Dist 1, Peter Ketchum

MONTGOMERY COUNTYCounty Council Dist 1, Tom Mellish

MORGAN COUNTYCounty Commissioner, Kenny Hale

SPECIAL RECOGNITIONWe also want to give special recognition to Steve Thompson, REALTOR® and MIBOR RPAC Trustee, who was elected to the Henry County Fall Creek Township Board.

COMPLAINT REVIEWStaff conducted a review of the number of ethics complaints and arbitration requests over the last fifteen years to determine if there is an increase in the number of complaints as we perceived there to be. In looking at the data, we found that while the total number of filings were increasing quite a bit,

the number of ethics complaints and arbitration requests filed have remained fairly steady. The increase in the total is due to the filing of citation complaints. Members are taking advantage of this additional option in resolving their grievance as was the intent of the Citation Policy.
