Alan ParryAlan Parry lives and works on the edge of the glorious Cotswolds,
an area known for its characteristically undulating landscape, mellow stone buildings and its many enchanting gardens. With its inherent charm, colour and delightful romance, this landscape has been the perfect inspiration for many of Alan’s latest paintings. Since his last exhibition his work has gently evolved. Although his paintings are known for wonderful stylistic compositions, subtly distorted perspectives and viewpoints, they always rely on strong traditional values that underlie and refl ect his early formal art education and years spent as a professional artist. He has a special ability to extract and distil the quintessential elements from his subject and place them in distinctive pictorial arrangements giving the work a unique charm.
This exhibition of nearly 40 paintings centres around the diversity of the English rural garden. The formality of Hidcote’s vibrant summer borders and Packwood’s geometric, sculptural, topiary gardens are counterbalanced by paintings of softer, Cotswold village gardens displaying their natural colour and gentle casualness. They reveal how well he observes detail, and how he entwines it throughout these structured compositions.
Alan will be present at the Private View and we look forward to welcoming you to the exhibition.
