A part of you since 1891Firmly anchored in a long tradition of craftsmanship, our first factory was founded on the outskirts of Mora in 1891. It successfully combined the benefits of hand-forged blades and industrial manufacture. The result was a knife with a grip-friendly handle and a very sharp and robust blade. Today, the knife from Mora is known for its high quality and is also recognized as a national symbol of Sweden.

We take pride in our heritage and that every one of our knives are made in Mora, Sweden. Therefore we have decided to name our new series of outdoor knives after places in and around Mora that inspire us. This means that the beautiful region of Dalarna and the proud origins of Morakniv are always close by.

It is something entirely new. A small fixed blade knife that fits in your pocket and can be hung around your neck. Eldris is designed for hiking, camping, picnicing, hunting, climbing or whenever you need flexible knife. Meet Arvid Larsson and Markus Leijon at our development department.

There have been busy days in the development department at Morakniv

lately. The development team in Mora, Sweden has made the last touches to the new Eldris pocket size knife.

“The Eldris knife has been in our minds for a long time, the small knife that fits easily in your pocket or hanging around your neck. Most times the modern outdoor life doesn’t need much more than this knife. You could say that this is our interpretation of the folding knives that are very popular today, but Eldris has the advantages of the rigid features of a fixed blade”, says Arvid Larsson, Design Engineer.

There’s no question about Eldris being a knife of the well known Morakniv standard and quality.

“We’ve carefully chosen materials that will perform well in the tasks the knife will be exposed to”, says Markus Leijon, Industrial Designer.

For example, the Swedish stainless steel,

12C27, is heat treated according to the famous Morakniv recipe - that despite its fame is a well kept company secret.

Markus continues:

“The handle is made out of two different polymers. There’s a polypropylene polymer in the core, that provides a stiff, solid and durable knife. To give the handle an excellent grip and ergonomic feeling we add a TPE, a thermoplastic rubber, to the outer grip surfaces.”

He is convinced Morakniv Eldris will surprise with its versatility.

“The small size and clean design, together with the possibility of chosing between five different colors, matches perfect with your outdoor gear. Bring it on your hike, camping, picnic, climbing or wherever you’re next adventure takes you. The size of the blade and the strength you get from it being fixed is also extremely useful.”

Now it is time for Eldris to meet the outdoor community.

“I hope the reaction will be something like a big Ooooh! We strongly believe that the Eldris knife will attract a wide group of nature lovers. This is a knife that is perfect for both experienced knife users and the ones who’ve never used a knife before. We’re hoping for a warm welcome of course”, Arvid concludes.

“Eldris is the perfect knife for the modern outdoor life”

SymmetricalAs with the knife, the symmetry of the sheath is of big importance, since it allows you to place the knife in the sheath from both sides.

Landscape weaponThe two crossed arrows with the crown is the county crest of the Swedish provice Dalarna. We have placed the Morakniv edition of the crest on the sheath. We have added our founding year 1891, and the result is a tribute to the region as well as to our heritage.

Pocket SizeThe knife’s design makes it a more durable and rough option to a folding knife. When our knife is placed in the sheath it is small enough to be carried in a pocket. And when used, the feeling of working with a fixed blade knife is simply unprecedented .

Sheath shapeThe sheath is strongly inspired by sheaths first made in the beginning of the 1900’s. Sheaths that today can be found on the classic line of knives, and look that looks almost the same as they did back then.

The heart shaped cavities on the sheath, the symmetrical appearance and the triangle shaped tip is a trademark of a classic Morakniv sheath.

Protective polymerThe sheath is made of polypropylene, a polymer that makes it rugged, and thereby provides an excellent protection of the knife.

Features

Coil shapeThe coil shape in the heart of the knife is strongly related to the heritage of Morakniv. The knife with the red coil shaped handle is probably as well known as the famous Dala horse in Sweden.

PatternThe rhombus pattern is a traditional pattern that is present in many variations in Mora and the region of Dalarna.

In the handle, the pattern provides a significantly improved grip. Beside its high functionality, it also pays a tribute to our region and history.

Click lockThe handle has a built-in click lock between the sheath and handle to ensure that the knife stays in place when worn around the neck.

Secure gripThe outer shell is made of TPE, a rubbery polymer that provides a firm and secure grip.

Handle shapeThe symmetrical handle allows flexible use of the knife with a two-way fit in the sheath.

The drop design on the back is big enough to keep the knife steady in your hand.

Blade finishThe blade has a semi-matte finish appreciated among the outdoor community.

Scandi grindThe knife is grinded with a scandi grind which makes it easy to keep sharp.

SteelThe blade is 2 mm thick and 56 mm long (or in this case short). It is made of high-quality Swedish stainless steel (12C27) that is treated to the highest quality in our own factory.

Grinded spineThe spine of the blade is ground to make the edge perfect for use with a fire starter. This means that you do not need to use the edge of the blade when starting your fire, which makes your knife stay sharp for longer.

HoleThe rear part of the handle has a hole for fastening a Lanyard, rope or other gadgets according to preference.

Rugged coreThe core of the handle, visible in the barrel shape, is made of polypropylene. It is a polymer that makes the knife and the handle very rugged.

Your new little friend on your next big adventure.

ParacordParacord is a given part of any outdoor acitivity, and should be brought whenever you are spending time outdoors. There are many situations this piece of string will be invaluable. Everything from making a drying line for wet clothes, to tying a broken snowmobile sledge to a snowmobile or even as an extra hand when your gutting a moose, everything is easier with a piece of paracord at hand.

The special thing with the paracord is that it is made of an outer sleeve and several thinner cords, which increases the possible ways of using it even more.

Fire starter of matching sizeThe firestarter has a minimalist design to fit with the pocket sized knife. A paracord enables many different ways to attach the firestarter to the knife.

Features

Neck-knife kitThe neck-knife kit is developed as an alternative to carrying the knife in your pocket or backpack. When carried around your neck the knife is always close by, ready to be used at any time.

Fire starterA firestarter is included in the neck-knife kit. This firestarter has a minimalist design to accompany the size of the knife, and is optimal for starting your fire or igniting a camping stove.

Secondary lockingWhen worn around your neck, the secondary locking strap prevents the knife from falling out of the sheath. That way you can feel confident that the knife is always safe in place.

The lock consists of a leather piece attached to a collar. It can be taken on and off, since it is possible to slide the collar onto the sheath and snap it into place.

Leather detailsThe secondary locking strap has details made out of leather. This natural material is probably the best choice when it comes to du-rability in details like these, that are put to repeated wear and tear.

ParacordThe neck-knife kit includes a 1 m long paracord string. For example, it can enable you to create a lanyard for carrying the knife around your neck.

Outdoor and survival expert Johan Skullman knows everything there is to know about spending time close to nature. In Eldris he has found a knife that has the perfect size and features for any outdoor adventure.

As an ex-military Johan Skullman has experienced most outdoor

environments. What he doesn’t know about survival in the mountains, the jungle, on water or in the woods, is probably not worth knowing.

“I always bring a knife and a fire starter with me. Those are the best tools for starting a fire. I also bring a piece of insulating clothing, a windshield of some kind and a small foldable pot to be able to get warm water. A small first aid kit is another very important thing. This is the minimum level. With these things in my backpack I can handle an unplanned night outdoors. Then of course, I can also prepare a warm cup of coffee for a relaxing moment in front of the fire.”

Johan has been involved in the work with Eldris since the very beginning, looking at the features and advantages of a pocket size knife with a fixed blade.

“A knife of this size gives you increased control when using it. A small blade is safer

to handle than a larger one.”

A safe handeling and a manageble size also makes Eldris a great knife for teaching knife skills to new nature discoverers.

“It’s easy to use a small knife for showing and practicing. A good and steady grip is another safety aspect of Eldris that can help prevent slipping and cutting injuries.”

Two different polymers and a grip friendly shape creates the uniquely designed handle.

“You’re able to move the hand on the handle and get different kinds of grips. This is one of the main advanteges to me since it makes it possible to perform those small, finer tasks. You can use it as a small drill and for finer cut when carving a spoon or a bowl.

The small sized blade also comes with many additional advantages.

“It can be used for anything from minor everyday chores to working on your game after hunt. Even for carving!”

The various application areas are results of the combination of the blade size and the highly functional handle.

“To me, what makes Eldris truly unique is that it can be carried in so many different ways without getting in the way - around my neck, in my pocket or in my backpack.”

“Around my neck, in my pocket or in my backpack - it’s simply unique”

One of these ‘fäbodar’ is called Eldris. It belonged to the villigade located on the opposite bank of the river from our factory. In early June, people walked here with their cattle. Up until the day after Midsummer, they lived on the ‘fäbod’ of what the nature had to offer. Besides overseeing their cattle, picking berries, crafting, cooking and caring for their cottages was part of the everyday tasks. In the evenings they gathered around the fire, telling stories of ancient times and legends of the woods.

To name our pocket size knife Eldris after the place and the people who lived there is our way of paying tribute to our roots. Our ancestors and the surroundings of Mora are all parts of who we at Morakniv are today. The Eldris knife - the flexible companion when doing everything from crafting to lighting the evening fire - is our interpretation of the life once lived at the ’fäbod’ of Eldris.

Eldris

The names that tell our storyMany small cottages and barns. The cattle graze on the plot outside and every morning starts before sunrise with milking the cows or goats. This was the scenery of the Swedish ‘fäbod’, a place where people historically spent their summers to work and let their cattle run free in the surrounding nature. It was also an important time for preparation of homemade butter and cheese for the winter.

In older days, the land closest to the village was used for cultivation during the summer and therefore peopled had to move the cattle away. Every village had their own ‘fäbod’, many times even two or more. This way, our ancestors could walk with their cattle from one settlement to another during the summer.

In the region around Mora there have always been many ‘fäbodar’ and many of them still exist today. The houses are mainly used as holiday cottages, where the descendants of the original farmers can escape the urban society and experience the genuine peace of nature.

Since traditions here in Mora are strong, still today, local farmers take their cattle out into the woods for a summer at the ‘fäbod’.
