SSCE Runtime The Morehouse Calibration Software requires the SQL Server Compact Edition runtime to be installed.

The runtime is named SSCERuntime_x86.exe or SSCERuntime_x64.exe. Select the one that corresponds

to your CPU’s architecture (typically x64).

Follow the instructions to complete installation. A similar screen should appear after a successful

installation.

Indicator Drivers Install the necessary drivers for the indicators to be used (DSC, HADI, and/or 4215). The driver installers

are in the Drivers/<Indicator Name> directory.

Select the Coefficient Units from the drop down. And then press OK.

A new load cell is created with an empty name.

1. Enter a name where <Name Here> is.

2. Select Compression (or Tension) Units

3. Enter at least 2 coefficients

4. Optionally import from Cert via clipboard

5. Repeat for the other load type if necessary

Select any existing load cell to modify the coefficients as necessary or click the Delete button to remove

the load cell from the list.

Finding Load Cell Coefficients Coefficients can be found on the load cell’s certificate. Verify the load direction at the top of the page.

The coefficients needed are listed as Bn and should be entered in Bn. Refer to images for an example.

Select Proceed to finish managing the load cells.

Optional: Import from Certificate

To help reduce typos, the From Cert button was added to allow effective copy/pasting of the

coefficients. If the PC has a copy of the digital certificate on it, you can select the text as shown below

and copy (CTRL + V or Right Click->Copy) the text to your clipboard. From there, just press the From Cert

button to fill all the coefficients in.

Note: The only requirements are that the copied text includes the “B₀” text and all coefficients are

selected. There are no issues with additional text being accidentally selected.

Calibration Controls 1. Force/Mass Display – Direct read of force or mass

2. Unit of Force/Mass selection – Select the unit of measurement

3. Display Precision – Adjusts the number of digits shown on the Display

4. Reading Interval – How frequent the display is updated

5. Indicator Communication Toggle – Turn on to communicate with indicator

6. Tare All Button – Tare all active indicators simultaneously

7. Force/Mass Toggle – Turn on to calculate mass using local gravity value

8. Local Gravity – Used for mass calculations

9. Capture Data – Logs the current reading in the selected cell

10. Indicator Force / mV/V Readout – Display the indicator’s current reading

11. Indicator Force / mV/V Toggle – Toggle to view a raw or force reading of the indicator

12. Compression/Tension Toggle – Toggle based on load direction

13. Add to Force Sum – Add this indicator’s readings to the total force measurement

14. Current Indicator – Visual cue of selected indicator

15. Current Load Cell – Coefficients being used

16. Tare – Zero the readings

17. Remove Indicator – The indicator and load cell return to the indicator list

18. Indicator List – List of indicators that are currently connected with the name of the assigned load cell

19. Data Logging – Enter forces to be applied; select cell to capture data to

20. Export to Excel – Create a spreadsheet of the data logged

Calibrate Load Cell 1. Enter the various forces to be applied. A new row will be added once upon selecting the empty

cell

2. Select the corresponding cell to record data in.

3. Activate this toggle to enable data to be read from the indicator

4. Press Capture Data to log the indicator’s reading. The next cell down (2) will be highlighted

automatically. The program will record both the force reading and the mV/V reading of the

indicator. Select the drop down to choose between the two.

5. Adjust the force and repeat step 4, as necessary. Once all forces have been recorded for a run,

rotate the load cell, as necessary. Repeat step 2 for all 3 runs.

FAQ SQL Server Compact Exception Question: I am receiving an unhandled exception mentioning SQL Server Compact. What causes it and

how do I fix it?

Answer: The exception is due to the program being unable to load the required database components because they are not installed, or the incorrect version is installed. The fix is to run the installer that is included with the program. Refer to the SSCE Runtime section of this document for instructions.

Removing Force Units Question: Our company does more than just Force and Mass calibration/measurements. Is there a way

to remove the unit label to help remove confusion for our technicians?

Answer: Yes. Enabling the “Ignore Calibration Units” checkbox on the Start/Setup tab, all unit labels are

removed from the program. Due to a technical limitation though, the Managing Load Cells window still

requires a unit to be selected.

Please note that when this feature is enabled, the unit of Force/Mass dropdown is disabled and simply

displays “As Calibrated.” Additionally, the Mass toggle and Gravity text box are also disabled. Finally,

any points captured while this feature is enabled will not record any unit of measurement data.

Force Summation Question: Can I use multiple indicators and load cells to calculate force?

Answer: Yes. Force summation is supported and up to 4 indicators can be used at a time.

1. Ensure all load cell coefficients and indicators are set up. See Managing Load Cells and Managing

Indicators for instructions. 2. Select the indicators to be used in the calculation. See Calibrating a Load Cell for instructions.

a. Each selected indicator/load cell will have its own region for control and display

purposes 3. An indicator can be ignored for temporarily by unchecking the Add to Force Sum checkbox for

the indicator. 4. Turn on the Force/Mass toggle. 5. Capture data and export as before. 6. The exported data will contain both devices and how each of them contributed to the force

measurement.

Missing Indicator Question: Why isn’t my indicator showing up?

Answer:

1. If using a Morehouse 4215 indicator, ensure that the “Add Line Feeds” option is enabled via the

front panel controls.

2. The indicator may not be properly connected. Please ensure the connection to the computer is

good.

3. The indicator’s driver may not have been installed. Please refer to Indicator Drivers in this document

for further instructions.

4. The indicator may be in use by another program. Please stop any other programs that may be using

the indicator or restart the PC.

5. As a last attempt, please see Resetting COM Ports.
