FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents,

The Department of Education has released Phase 4 Operating Guide-

lines for Schools, effective 29/6/2020. For the first time in many

months the whole school will gather in the Undercover Area on Friday

for community singing. The Year 5/6 Camp has been planned and will

go ahead at Point Walter in Term 3. It’s a yes for; assemblies, incur-

sions, excursions, sport events, In-term swimming lessons including

(VacSwim October holidays), Year 7 Secondary School Orientations,

extra-curricular activities provided by private service providers and

class gatherings.

But, we are not back to normal!

It is very important that as a school community we keep the positives

learnt from the “Covid-19 experience.” Your children have the resilience

and independence to come to class on their own, they have thrived and

I would like to see this continue. Parents, especially in the mornings,

please “drop and go”. Be proud of your children and how responsible

they have become.

Kindy and pre-primary students can be dropped off and collected from the gates x 3 in the early childhood yard and/or classroom veranda.

The Kiss and Drive at the front of the school will continue. Parking on the grass at the front of the school will be restricted to each side of the gravel driveway. No cars will be allowed to reverse back into the main driveway. Kiss and Drive has the right of way. No parking on the black basketball court. Boundary gates around the school will continue to be supervised by staff for drop off and pickups.

The following must be adhered to:

Good hygiene practices of staff, students, parents and visitors.

Regular cleaning, including equipment.

Physical distancing with a two square metre rule per adult applies.

Parents to report to the school office when dropping off or collecting students (K-6) during the

school day.

Visitors on site must sign in at the office.

Strictly staff and students only in classrooms.

Parent volunteers are allowed in the classroom for a specific purpose as directed by the teacher,

(parent roster, special activity, class helper)

Parents may attend the school site for scheduled meetings, drop off and pick up.

Teachers will not be available for at the door chit-chats. They are focusing on the students and

teaching program. Book a meeting with teachers or send an email please.

Be on time as it decreases interruptions to learning programs, late students to sign in at the office.

Thank you to students, staff, parents for the challenges you have endured during Term 2 and tenacity

you have shown in difficult times.

You are all Super Stars!

Unfortunately, it may be sometime before I see you all again as I have broken my ankle and I will need

time to recover. No phase 4 dancing for me! In my absence, Mrs Libby Johnson is in charge.

If you are fortunate to go a holiday or have staycation at home, enjoy having the choice to get out and

actually do something these holidays.

Stay safe and keep watch over our school

Parent/Teacher Interviews Today

Making appointments for the 10-minute Parent/Teacher interviews using the School Interviews online booking system has been easy to use and highly effective. Interviews are today, and parking is availa-ble at the front of the school and on the black basketball court.

Shade Structure

The school was successful in obtaining $10,000.00 in the Department of Education 2020 Shade Struc-ture and Playground Program. The funding will be used to build shade sails in the early childhood area. The Department of Finance, Building Management and Works will facilitate the project by the end of June 2021.

Farmers Markets

The successful reopening last weekend of the Mt Claremont Farmers Markets shows how much the markets are valued by the community. Our parents, Bruce Grieves and the FM Committee’s extensive planning to meet Covid-19 guidelines and their communication with stall holders, patrons and communi-ty is to be commended.

Cleaning

Department of Education funding for additional cleaning during the school day (toilets, high impact are-as, playgrounds) has been extended to the end of Term 3. The cleaning team of Indah, Egi and Vicki continue to keep the school clean and safe. We thank them for their hard work.

Staffing

Mrs Greenwood returns to work in Term 3 to teach Room 9 on Thursdays and to provide educa-

tional support on Tuesday and Friday mornings.

Thank you to staff relieving during Term 2: Ms Walton and Ms Ferguson.

Pre-Service Teachers

We have been fortunate to have two pre-service teachers complete their final practicum at the school.

They have worked exceptionally hard and have been great to have on staff. Thank you to class teach-

ers for being mentors and sharing your professional knowledge and practice with new colleagues of

the teaching profession. On behalf of the school community we wish the pre-service teachers all the

best for their future career in education.

Good bye and good luck to Mr Anthony Hall and Mr Tom Roberts

School Development Day – Term 3

Monday, 20 July is a pupil free day and students do not attend school. Students return to school on

Tuesday 21 July.

Lapathon

A couple of weeks ago all Year 3-6 students participated in our annual Lapathon during Wednesday senior sport time. The Lapathon provides a bit of fun, fitness and also acts as great preparation for the Faction Cross Country carnival. Students can choose to walk, jog or run laps of Mt Claremont Oval, each time they complete a lap they get a tick on their popstick. Small prizes were given out not only to those who did the most laps, but also to students who pushed themselves out of their comfort zone and gave their absolute best. Well done, to everyone for their efforts!

Faction Cross Country

Recently we held our Faction Cross Country Carnival on Mt Claremont Oval. Thankfully, we moved the carnival forward to the morning in order to avoid wet weather. Well done to all Year 3-6 students for their efforts in not only competing, but also supporting each other over the entire afternoon. It's not an easy event to complete and I think all students should be commended for how they pushed themselves to the limit and for the resilience shown in completing the gruelling course.

Congratulations to Wambiri who take a slender lead going into the Faction Athletics Carnival next term.

Cross Country Score: Wambiri - 163 Boogalla - 152 Nyanda - 120

I'd like to give a big thank you to all faction captains and staff who did a brilliant job in assisting with or-ganisation of the carnival over the morning.

Interschool Cross Country

Last Friday, MCPS students travelled to Jolimont PS for the Interschool Cross Country carnival. It's al-ways an enjoyable afternoon and thankfully the weather managed to hold off. The competition levels were amazingly high, especially given the limited preparation time this term, and I thought all of our stu-dents performed brilliantly on the big stage. Well done, to all MCPS students for the effort they've put into both training and competing over the last few weeks, you should all be very proud. Congratulations to Dalkeith who were Interschool Cross Country champions for 2020!

Final Scores: Dalkeith - 121 Mosman Park - 100 Jolimont - 83 Cottesloe - 79 Hollywood - 50 Mount Claremont - 48

SCHOOL PHOTO DAY IS COMING! Dear Parents,

For the duration of COVID-19, please be aware that Kapture photographers are fol-lowing all recommended health guidelines and safe practices. Kapture have modified the photography system whereby photographers will remain at all times 1.5m from students and staff. Photographers will use only verbal queues and instructions in an effort to up-hold a high standard of student presentation. Students may be instructed by photogra-phers to use single use sterile combs, use wet wipes or tissues, to fix collars, buttons and stray hairs - all without physically touching students.

In addition to the above, the class group photo format has been modified whereby a full length ‘character’ pose will be taken of each student in a white studio. The photo is a fun shot with the view to students showing their personality – ‘strike a pose’. These poses will then be combined with all students in the class to form the class group photo of 2020. An example of a character pose can be seen as a purchase option when ordering your photos online.

Our school photo day is coming! Approximately two weeks prior to the photo day every student will receive a Kapture Photography personalised flyer to bring home. The only method of ordering your photos is online through the Kapture website as your payment is secure and can be easily verified at any time.

Sibling orders can ONLY be placed online. Late requests cannot be granted.

You have the option to order a sibling photo package online, however please note sibling orders will close in most instances at 12-midday sharp, one business day before the first photo date. We suggest you place your sibling order as soon as you re-ceive your flyer with your order instructions as places are limited.

Log on to kapture.com.au for your sibling photo order cut-off date and time.

You can place an order online for class or individual photographs at any time for the re-mainder of the current school year. However, a $20 fee will apply if you order more than 10 days after photography.

If your child is in a sports or special photo, you can use the same school code on your information flyer to view and order these photos on the Kapture website, around the time that school photos are ready to be delivered. Please note class, individual and sibling portraits are not available to view online prior to purchase.

Kapture offer a money back guarantee for any parent who is not fully satisfied with their photo package. Should you have any queries before or after photo day, please direct them to the Kapture office on 9240 1714 or email [email protected].
