Discussed and reviewed the objectives for the group

– Develop an approach

to provide visibility for Parcels

to allow Parcel mailers to provide pre-notification of origin entry and dropship eVS mailings

to utilize existing barcodes, such as the Surface Visibility mailer barcode and the parcel tracking barcode (i.e., UCC 128)

Size, height and width of barcode for different Parcel sizes

– Provide insight into technology changes of key applications, such as APPS and PostalOne! TM

– Investigate possibilities to integrate eDropShip and eVS processes

Identified additional Parcel Industry stakeholders

– Quebecor World, Cornerstone Shipping, abol Software, BMG Columbia House and Ridgway

Provided a high level overview of FAST/ Surface Visibility, Intelligent Mail and Barcode Technology, eVS and how these systems interact with one another

Communicated that FAST should be viewed as a system that integrates with Surface Visibility to provide key visibility points and serve as the key entry point to the USPS mail system

– FAST should not be looked as a replacement for DSAS

Indicated that USPS is committed to providing rating systems to encourage:

– Mailers to provide accurate advance notification of incoming mail and

– USPS facility personnel to provide improved customer service

USPS communicated that it will Investigate if ePayment postage can be done with uniquely identified pallets to reduce verification cost
