My' s o n was busy w i t h h i s newspaper r o u t e and my d a u g h t e r ' w a s p l a y i n g w i t h ' f r i e c a s and n e i g h b o r s . I dec ided t o t ake , a m t o r c y e l e r i d e t o Bodega and Bodega Bay, l o c a t i o n f o r t h e A l f r e d - Hdtchcock movie "The Birds ."

The wea the r was c l e a r 2ndJsunny w i t h some c l o u d s . The' t e m p e r a t u r e i n t h e low f o r t i e s and t h e wind was from t h e w e s t a t 25 t o 50 Km p e r h o u r w i t h g u s t s i s h i g h a s 65: I d r e s s e d warmly. I p lanned my r o u t e 2s follows--Hiway 1 0 1 s o u t h t o hiway 237 g o i n g e z s t . I would t h e n t a k e h i - way 1,7 n o r t h t o t h e town o f San Raphael t o meet 101 g o i n g n o r t h . I would t h e n t r a v e l 101 t o 116 g o i n g w e s t . T h i s would t a k e me t o t h e two Bodegas.

From my'home t o t h e j u n c t i o n of Hiway 237 and 17 t h e treffic was l i g h t and I made pood t ime. -Once I g o t on 17 however I found t h e hiway t r a f f i c v e r y 'heavy. Many campers , Sundey d r i v e r s and t o u r i s t s f i l l e d t h e two- lane hiway. Because o f t h i s , , I 'wc7s t o u r i n g a b m t 1 0 0 K m s p e r hour.

As I ,passed t h r o u g h Fremont , I c a s u e l l y , looked up and- w a s - ' s u r m i s e d t o s e e two s a i l l a n e s be ing towed t o t h e i r a l t i t u d e s . B e c ~ u s e of t h e wind c o n d i t i o n f had n o t expec ted any s o e r i n g f o r t h i s day. * A l l f o u r a i r c r a f t s were w e l l i n f r o n t o f me, s o 1 was a b l e t o g l a n c e a t them o c c a s i o n a l l y .
