The Z-FLEX® Multilayer Aluminization (MLA) process uses the latest aerospace thin film deposition technology to apply fine, highly
reflective aluminum particles to both sides of a high temperature
polymer film barrier. The resulting Z-FLEX® film is then chemically and mechanically bonded to a premium substrate fabric using
a proprietary adhesive that is activated with both heat and
pressure. The result is a finished fabric with superior bonding
which will not delaminate under the most demanding flexing
conditions. The Z-FLEX® line provides the highest achievable level of radiant reflectivity, chemical and moisture resistance, and
thermal protection.

Z-FLEX® MLA Fabric Style GuideSubstrate Fabric Description Features & Benefits
Texturized GlassMade with Zetex, Newtex’s proprietary highly texturized premium 6 micron fiberglass fabrics.
Zetex texturized glass offers great value and unsurpassed insulation against heat and burn through.
Filament GlassPremium 6 and 9 micron non-texturized fiberglass fabrics.
Filament glass is light weight and flexible, providing the best value for situations where only radiant heat protection is needed.
Spun & Core Spun Para-Aramids
Our Spun Aramid is a 100% Para-Aramid twill fabric. Core Spun Aramid fabrics contain spun Aramid wrapped around a glass core.
Spun Aramids provide wear-ability, strength, and abrasion resistance. Highly wearable. Core Spun Aramids provide additional insulation from glass core, in addition to good strength and abrasion.
O-PAN/ Aramid Blends
These fabrics are woven with a unique yarn made from an intimate blend of oxidized PAN and para-aramid fiber in a proprietary ratio.
Very good fire resistance, low shrink, and non-melting; High strength and good wear-ability.
ModacrylicModacrylics are soft and strong for superior comfort and wearability. Modacrylics are flame retardant, do not com-bust, and will self-extinguish.
Heat and flame protection. Unique thermal insulation properties combined with permanent flame resistance. Highly wearable.
PBI/Aramid "Mock Knit" Weave
This unique fabric is a proprietary weave that gives the hand of knit, but delivers superior durability over knits when aluminized. Made from PBI and Aramid.
Extremely high melting point, and ignition resistant due to exceptional thermal and chemical stability. Excellent tear strength.
Meta-AramidsThese fabrics are woven from meta-aramid yarns which delivers high heat and flame resistance.
Exceptional heat and flame resistance, high comfort and durability.

Test Measure Description
EN 366: 1993 B radiant Heat Measures the material’s ability to reflect radiant energy.
EN 388: 2003 Abrasion & Tear Measures the ability to withstand abrasion and tear when exposed to these forces.
EN 532: 1992 Flame Spread Measures the amount of flame spread and afterglow when exposed to direct flame.
EN 348: 1992 Molten Metal Splash Measures ability to shed and protect against drips from a steel welding rod.
ASTM F955 Molten Metal Splash A more severe molten metal exposure testing the ability to shed a large molten spill (Iron, aluminum and brass).
MIL-C-87076A Wet Flex Measures film bond strength after exposure to a warm soak & 1000 flex cycles.
For more information on these tests, our independent certified testing partners and actual results, please contact [email protected]
1. Z-FLEX demonstrated no afterglow in all flame tests; Competition showed 2 to 8 seconds of afterglow.2. Two measurements: a) Temp rise over 30 sec. b) Time for temp rise to reach 24C.3. All fabrics subjected to Taber H-18 wheel; Superior rating = 3000 cycles.
