QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“We all have dreams. But in

order to make dreams come

into reality, it takes an awful lot

of determination, dedication,

self-discipline and effort.”

JESSE OWENS

NARRABRI FISH FARM

Last Friday the Stage 5 Design and Technology class,

with interested Stage 4 students, visited the Narrabri

Yabby and Fish Farm as part of our study to establish

aquaculture at school. Students learnt about the

science of keeping and breeding fish and yabbies

and looked at each stage of development. The

farm breeds cod, silver perch, catfish and yabbies

and the owner discussed the breeding requirements

for each. This excursion was extremely informative

and inspired the students on new materials and

equipment we can use for our own project here at

school.

We also purchased yabbies from the farm. This

week students have sorted our yabbies by the sex so

we can start our breeding program. Data will be

collected to ensure a high survival rate, as we

learnt yabbies really like to eat each other.

STAGE 4 STUDENT LAPTOP PROGRAM

Stage 4 students will have access to new Chromebooks (a type of laptop) for their school studies.

Students and their families will need to sign an agreement with the school before a Chromebook will

be assigned. A payment of $50 is required annually to lease each laptop. This payment will be used

by the school for ongoing maintenance of the device.

After 4 years of consecutive lease payments, the student will acquire ownership of the laptop.

Mungindi Central School will release all responsibility of the laptop. It will then become the

responsibility of the student to organise and pay for any repairs needed.

PRESCHOOL CAPERS

The children are continually investing in other cultures learning by ‘travelling around the world’ using

our home corner ‘Up and Go’ Travel Agency. This week we visited China and Japan reading books

that showed culture, listening to music, watching dancing, looking at housing and clothing… and

created a Japanese garden.

The animal pens now known as the Fur and Feathers Penthouse are

finished. Bill Lawson and the children have done a fantastic job.

Next week

Assessment and Rating :- We will have a visitor next week from ACECQA

on Tuesday 25 June.

CentreCare :- Each Wednesday we are learning from the CentreCare

staff. On Wednesday 26 June 10:30 am – 11:00 am we will continue to

support our social skills program.

Last Day of Term 2 :- Thursday 4 July 2019

POWER OUTAGES

There will be minor to possibly significant power outages on Tuesday 2 July as there are 40+ safety

switches within the school that have been recalled and therefore need to be replaced.

Classes will continue as usual. It is recommended to parents to ensure their child/ren have adequate

clothing for the day as there may be no heating.

LUNCH PASSES

An important reminder regarding Secondary students who use a lunch pass. It is a privilege, and as

part of the agreement to utilise these passes ALL students must return to school no later than 12:05 pm

in readiness for their next class. Students who continually fail to meet this requirement will no longer be

able to leave school premises for lunch. Alternative arrangements will need to be made for accessing

their lunch ie. bring their lunch to school in the morning or get it delivered by a parent to the

Administration Office before 11:30 am. This is to ensure that there is no disruptions to the classrooms so

students can have the best possible learning experience.

Primary students are not eligible to access lunch passes. Parents are advised if your child forgets their

lunch, or you are running late, their lunches must be dropped at the Administration Office for delivery

to the student. Under no circumstances are parents to deliver the lunches to the classrooms.

Please note the changes to the D & T Café schedule. Due to events being held every Friday for the

rest of the term, the lunch time bacon & egg burgers have now been rescheduled for Thursday

lunchtime. Remember that all ordered must be placed by Wednesday afternoon to ensure

availability.
