Who is Influencing Your Child…
A Perspective on Christian Schools (adapted from: www.WhyChristianSchools.ca)
Children today grow up in a time of confusing and conflicting cultural messages. These messages come at them through tel-evision and the internet, as well as through their peer group and their teachers. Parents want to ensure that, as much as possible, the messages their children receive and the environ-ment in which their children grow reinforce their values and Biblical beliefs. Christian schools partner with parents to train their children in the knowledge of God and His word. Chil-dren are taught and encouraged to see God’s truth in all sub-jects and all aspects of learning. Teachers are selected to support curriculum based edu-cation and nurture the developing faith of students. This is done through daily devotions, weekly chapels and service groups at Huron Christian School. The curriculum reinforces the values and beliefs im-portant to Christian parents. Students are taught individual and communal responsibility including caring for people in need and the environment. The word of God is applied to every aspect of life. The values of a child’s peer group at school are influen-tial in developing their character. Parents want their chil-dren to make friends that share their same values, as these peer groups become increasingly important as children devel-op. Core teachings at Huron Christian School encourage stu-dents to serve one another, and be united as one body. Bibli-cal values and beliefs are the foundation for the building of the school culture, for student learning and behavior, and for school activities.
Proverbs 22:6: “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it”
