OUR VISION AND MISSIONA great global university founded on science and technology
Nurturing creative and entrepreneurial leaders through a broad education in diverse disciplines
A research-intensive public university, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has 33,500 undergraduate and postgraduate students in the colleges of Engineering, Business, Science, and Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences. In 2013, NTU will enrol the first batch of students at its new medical school, the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, which is set up jointly with Imperial College London.
NTU is also home to four world-class autonomous institutes – the National Institute of Education, S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Earth Observatory of Singapore, and Singapore Centre on Environmental Life Sciences Engineering – and various leading research centres such as the Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute (NEWRI) and Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N).
A fast-growing university with an international outlook, NTU is putting its global stamp on Five Peaks of Excellence: Sustainable Earth, Future Healthcare, New Media, New Silk Road, and Innovation Asia.
Besides the main Yunnan Garden campus, NTU also has a satellite campus in Singapore’s science and tech hub, one-north, and is setting up a third campus in Novena, Singapore’s medical district.

The College of Engineering has six schools focused on technology and innovation, and a research output among the top three in the world. The College of Science has award-winning faculty and world-class laboratories. The Nanyang Business School’s MBA programme is ranked among the world’s top 35 by the Financial Times in its annual ranking of top MBA programmes, and consistently placed among the top 10 in the Asia-Pacific.
The College of Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences is home to Singapore’s first professional art school offering degree courses in art, design and media; a fast-growing humanities and social sciences school; and the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, a top communication school in Asia.
The internationally-acclaimed National Institute of Education provides educational consultancy to countries from Abu Dhabi to Vietnam.
The S Rajaratnam School of International Studies is a world authority on strategic studies and security research, ranked second in Asia and 22nd globally among the best university-affiliated think tanks in 2011.
The Earth Observatory of Singapore, established with S$150m in state funding, is dedicated to hazards-related earth science. It is the first Asian organisation to receive a S$5m endowment from the global AXA Research Fund.

MILESTONES
1955 Nanyang University (Nantah) is established as the first
Chinese-language university outside China. It is funded through donations from people from all walks of life.
1981 Nanyang Technological Institute (NTI) is established
with three Schools of Engineering on the premises of the former Nanyang University. Lessons are conducted in English.
1991NTI becomes NTU with the absorption of the National
Institute of Education.
2006 A Board of Trustees is established as a key
pillar of university governance with the corporatisation of NTU.
2007 NTU’s second campus at one-north officially opens.
2009 NTU becomes one of the seven founding members
of the Global Alliance of Technological Universities, a network of the world’s top technological universities.
2010 The NTU 2015 strategic blueprint is unveiled.
Channelling the university’s strengths into five interdisciplinary focus areas, it includes among its initiatives the setting up of the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.
2011 NTU launches a master plan to transform the Yunnan
Garden campus into a mini-city. The plan is guided by the principles of sustainability and greater interactivity and integrates living, learning, research and recreational spaces.

ACADEMIC Comprises the North Academic Complex, commonly referred to as North Spine or abbreviated as N or NS with an accompanying block number. Similarly, the South Academic Complex is referred to as South Spine or abbreviated as S or SS with an accompanying block number.
RESIDENTIAL The zones are further defined by staff, graduate and undergraduate housing.
DIRECTIONS Located in the south-western part of Singapore in a 200-hectare garden campus, NTU’s major buildings can be accessed via the four main arterial roads – Nanyang Avenue, Nanyang Drive, Lien Ying Chow Drive and Nanyang Crescent.
THE YUNNAN GARDEN CAMPUSThe Yunnan Garden campus provides a serene backdrop to 16 Halls of Residence housing some 9,200 students and a variety of lodging options, including accommodation for about 500 graduate students. All new undergraduates are guaranteed a place in a hall of residence.
ON-CAMPUS LIVINGNTU has the largest on-campus residence infrastructure in Singapore. About 35% of full-time undergraduates and 72% of international undergraduates live on campus. Some 600 housing units are set aside for international academics and staff members. The campus community forms a massive family unit, actively engaged in social exchange and mutual help.
INAUGURAL YOUTH OLYMPIC VILLAGE In August 2010, NTU extended a warm welcome to more than 5,000 international athletes and officials as the Youth Olympic Village for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games. The National Institute of Education served as the central square, while athletes stayed at halls of residence around the university.
