Therefore we thought that you could do with a little of your own space on Westlaw UK too. If you access Westlaw UK through IP authentication (i.e. without logging in) or Athens or Shibboleth, then you have the ability to create your own personal profile on the service. Get access to personalised features such as Alerts, RSS Feeds, the Research Trail, and Journal PDFs and Circulation Lists. Whether you’re a professional or an academic, you can now customise the way that you interact with Westlaw UK. Over the page, we’ve outlined how you can create a profile, log in and begin to make some space for yourself on Westlaw UK. It’s not my space, it’s your space ALERTS You can either choose an alert from over 100 pre-selected subject areas or create your own alerts using keywords, case names or legislation that you wish to be updated on. Choose whether you’d like a brief summary of what’s new or complete documents direct from Westlaw UK. Alerts can be set up for Cases, Legislation, Journals, and Current Awareness content. RSS FEEDS RSS feeds let you see what content has been updated. A feed is sent daily, so you can see all the day’s developments on the subject areas that you are interested in, on the day they happen without having to come to Westlaw UK to view them. RSS is the ideal way for you to receive updates from Westlaw UK and enables you to easily publish the latest content on your intranet site. Alternatively, you can have live links delivered straight to your RSS compatible browser or reader. RESEARCH TRAIL The Research Trail feature makes it easy for you to keep track of your research. You can look at what you’ve researched today, as well as return to previously viewed documents, as it enables you to see the path you took through Westlaw UK in previous research sessions. A trail is automatically saved for 14 days with the option to reset. You also have the options to print, save or email the current research trail in Word or PDF. ALERTS

USING MY WESTLAW UK Clear. Clever. Concise.

Once you have My Westlaw UK activated on your subscription, you will see this screen when you first access the service.

LOG YOURSELF INSET YOURSELF UP

Click on the Create Profile link to set up your personal profile for the first time

Simply fill in the required details and click Create.

An email will then be sent to you with your login details and a temporary password.

From the successful registration screen, click on the Back to Login button and then fill in the details required to log in.

The Client ID field gives you the option to enter information if you want to track the research you are doing and refer back to it at a later date.

When you log in to My Westlaw UK for the first time, you need to change your temporary password (to something between 6 and 25 digits long).

You’ll also need to enter a memorable name in case you forget your password.

After you have done this, click Log in.

Select the Remember me option on the login page, for easy access every time.

Selecting the Don’t show me this page again option will mean that you will not be given the option to log in to your personal profile next time you access the service.

But, if you change your mind, simply click on the My Westlaw UK icon in the top menu bar, and the login box will appear again.

You will know you are logged in because your name will appear at the top of the screen.

Once are you logged in you will see new options appear along the top of the screen such as Alerts and Trail (under the Settings & Tools menu).
