Dear NSA Members, It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the 2016 Spring Conference, in one of
the most historic towns from the frontier days of our nation. As I think about it, it’s an
appropriate location for NSA – an organization that is blazing a new frontier in the
construction industry, representing subcontractors in ways that are different from most
associations. We focus on bringing together the leaders of the industry from across
the nation, to drive change in our associations – and change in the industry – from the top
down. It’s an approach that has been effective and brought news successes to all of our NSA members over the years.
And we do it on the proverbial shoestring.
But shoestrings only stretch so far. So this year we invited our partners in the industry to support our efforts to
improve business conditions for subcontractors through NSA. I’m pleased to say they have responded with enthusiasm.
Milwaukee Tool has taken the lead as a Platinum Level Sponsor of NSA and five other vendors and service providers
have stepped up as Gold Sponsors – Carpenter & Patterson, Newman Associates, Tax Point Advisors, United
Rentals and Zurich Surety.
We greatly appreciate their support, and are proud to acknowledge them on our back cover. Thanks to their support,
NSA will be able to undertake new initiatives in the coming year, to upgrade our communications in print and online, and
more.
Our Conference Committee has put together a terrific program for this year’s conference, with speakers and topics
that resonate for all of us in our capacity as business executives, volunteer leaders or association executives. Just as
valuable is the opportunity for conversation and exchange that takes place outside the formal sessions. I look forward
to seeing all of you in San Antonio, where together we will work to strengthen our industry both locally and nationally,
as we get ready to celebrate NSA’s 15th Anniversary in 2017.

NSA Spring Conference 2016
The Alamo Mission in San Antonio, commonly called The Alamo, is a part of the San Antonio Missions World Heritage Site. The compound was originally built for the education of area Native Americans after their conversion to Christianity. The Alamo was moved to prevent flooding and still resides in the new location. Reconstruction has occurred over the years to repair damages. The structure is made primarily of stone constructed in the mid 1770s. The chapel was intended to be highly decorated and included Niches to hold statues.
Many mud buildings were also constructed to serve as workrooms, storerooms, and homes for Indian residents. The Alamo is currently a museum.
The Cathedral of San Fernando is a cathedral of the Roman Catholic Church located in downtown San Antonio, Texas. The original church was built between 1738 and 1750. The walls of that church today form the sanctuary of the cathedral, which gives rise to its claim as the oldest cathedral in the State of Texas.
In 2003, a $15 million renovation project was undertaken which involved a three phase process. In 2011, the cathedral underwent some minor
renovations including a new altar design.

Intellectually speaking, success is simple – identify
people who’ve already accomplished what you’re trying to achieve and follow their path.
Disciplining yourself to follow this simple advice is
extremely difficult and never happens overnight.
Your success depends on a passionate desire to

inevitable failures along the journey.”
