Good, Better, White TrufflesIrresistible delicacy for skin and palate

”Molto bene! I love dishes likepasta with truffle!”Christiane Paul, actressand brand ambassador for ANNEMARIE BÖRLIND

The white truffle is an anti-aging innovation. TheLindner family traveled to the Piedmont region ofItaly together with actress Christiane Paul to seewhere this sought-after mushroom originates.

Christiane Paul and Pope Benedict XVI share a common passion. And it is not the stillness of the vineyards in the margraviate inPiedmont. Here in the romantic spa hotel Relais Sant’Uffizio, an

old Dominican monastery from the 17th century, the pope emeritusenjoyed the luxurious truffles over homemade gnocchi back when hewas still Cardinal Ratzinger. Christiane Paul is just as susceptible to thecall of this white diamond. She can hardly wait for the opportunity toonce again savor this unique flavor. Yet she finds it difficult to describe:“White truffles have their own entirely unique taste,” she saysthoughtfully after struggling to find something to compare it with. “I actually ate truffle for the first time several years ago. I had alwaysheard and read about it, but never tried it. Today I love dishes like pastawith truffles,” she says.

Versatile tuber: unique taste, highly beneficial for the skin

The delicacy is now within arm’s reach as waiter Antonio Bottalico appears in front of her and her plate of homemade tagliatelle. In hishands he carries a “Tartufo Bianco d’Alba,” one of the most expensiveedible mushrooms in the world. A kilo of white truffle costs up toEUR 9,000, but a few grams are enough to transport gourmets into astate of bliss. Antonio freshly grates the object of desire into paper-thinsheets in front of his guest at the table. It is usually minimalist dishessuch as noodles, risotto, fish, polenta or scrambled eggs that set thestage on which the precious fungi can display its true talent. A whitetruffle is never cooked. That would destroy its incomparable aroma:with a strong scent and subtle flavor, it awakens many associations.

The perfect menu for demanding skin

NatuRoyale Biolifting Anti-Aging series with the Biolifting complexmade from white truffle, botanical hyaluronic acid and vitamins: Appetizer à la crème: creamy cleansingwith mild saccharoidal surfactants, shea butter and meadowfoam seed oil. Paired witha gentle enzyme peeling with aloe vera and enzymes that can be performed as an initial pre-cleansing step or following cleansing. Intermediate course to taste: Lifting Serum to strengthen the skinand provide extra moisture. Main course made to order: the daytimecream Day Active refreshes and smooths while the nighttime creamNight Repair enhances the regeneration effect. The icing on the cake:special Eye and Lip Contour care with paracress and Szechuan pepper.

At a charity event at Hotel Adlon, Johann Lafer describeda splendid 750-gram specimen from Piedmont up forauction as “pleasantly pungent, earthy, aromatic, strongly reminiscent of garlic, unusually clear, with anaddictive scent.” Others say that the white truffle smellsof hay and honey and that the delicate scent of garlic isaccompanied by the aroma of gorgonzola.

Unique active ingredient complex withwhite truffle from BÖRLIND

Perhaps it was this type of intoxicating taste experi-ence that inspired BÖRLIND CEO Michael Lindner. Savoring truffle dishes and Barolo on the terrace e ofthe home of an Italian friend in Piemont, he heardsomething that made him site up and take notice: “Ilearned that the white truffle so famous in this regionhas many positive effects on the skin as well. Webegan testing in our development laboratory in Calw.In a sophisticated combination with other ingredients,it has a smoothing, revitalizing and firming effect onthe skin,” Lindner explains with great enthusiasm.Bingo. The crown jewels of the culinary world in a ANNEMARIE BÖRLIND formula. That is a genuine in-novation in the world of natural cosmetics. The biolift-ing complex developed in the BÖRLIND laboratory and

made from white truffle extract, a botanicalhyaluronic acid from Chinese jelly fungus and vitamins delivers an intensive supply of moisture andactivates the cell regeneration processes. Fine linesand wrinkles are smoothed away. In addition to thisluxurious combination of active ingredients, the NatuRoyale Biolifting skincare series includes the following anti-aging substances: tiger grass, rose oil, white lupin, paracress, lily of the sea, Sichuan pepperand high-quality plant oils from jojoba andmacadamia nuts as well as camelina.

“Our gold series,” reports Daniela Lindner, “has onlybeen available for a few months now but is alreadyenormously popular. The combination of lovely fra-grance, smoothness and proven, visible impact appealsto many women.” “I can especially recommend theserum and the enzyme peeling,” Christiane Paul adds.

The white truffle is an exceptional active substancefrom a special region in northwest Italy used for skin-care purposes in only the most exclusive cosmetic prod-ucts. Reason enough for Daniela and Michael Lindnerto savor a dish of this noble fungus with brand ambas-sador Christiane Paul before setting off in search oftreasure with the the famous truffle hunter Giorgio Romagnolo and his faithful friends, two English Pointers, in the truffle forests and fields of Piedmont. n

Dive In!The power of the ocean: a fountain of youth for the skin

A vacation at the seaside makes us feels as if we have been reborn. The skin is soft, smooth and looks visibly refreshed. Discover the healing substances in the tubes and jars from the BÖRLIND world of products.

SEA WATERFeel– the dynamic freshness of theocean – a dip in the salty water relaxesthe body and gently cleanses the skin. What’s more, the minerals are anti -bacterial and anti-inflammatory, mak-ing them ideal for skin with a tendencyfor blemishes. “Maris aqua” is an ingre-dient in many skincare products forgood reason. It helps the skin retainmoisture. This vital freshness of theocean can be found in the TAUTROPFENshower gel as well as in the facial skin-care emulsion in the fluidum Brittanyline.

SALTNourishing, refining, healing.Whether to treat atopic dermatitis orsimply for winter-weary, stressedskin – sea salt has many beneficial ef-fects: It firms, stimulates microcircu-lation and removes dead skin cellsand impurities, leaving behind baby-soft skin. Sea salt is contained inproducts such as the following:TAUTROPFEN fluidum Gentle BodyScrub and fluidum Refreshing BodySpray. In the medical skincare brandDADO SENS from BÖRLIND, sea saltcan be found in the ExtroDerm FacialCleanser for dry and sensitive skin.

ALGAEAlgae extracts are one of the areas ofspecialization of Guylaine Le Loarer,Lead Developer at BÖRLIND. “Yes, theyare unbeatable, my favorite active in-gredients,” says the Frenchwoman whogrew up on the coast of Brittany. Thepeople there have known of the healingpowers of these sea dwellers since an-cient times. They are one of the mostimportant plants for our ecosystem. After all, they produce a large share ofthe earth’s oxygen through the processof photosynthesis. They are thought tohave been the only living organism inthe world for two and half billion years.“I am fascinated by the fact that re-searchers are only familiar with 20 per-cent of all algae and have not evendiscovered many species yet,” explainsthe head ofresearch and development.

Algae are masters of survival andare among the most versatile and nutri-ent-rich plants in existence. Scientistsare always identifying new substancesin them, forexample in brown and redalgae. These so-called macro algae arerich in minerals, fatty acids andoligosaccharides such as polysaccha-rides that are able to bind water. “Cer-tain molecules smooth the skin, othershave an anti-inflammatory, protective

or moisturizing effect,” explains LeLoarer. Red algae and brown algae areused in nearly a hundred BÖRLIND skin-care products. In the ANNEMARIE BÖRLIND product range these include:Anti-Stress Mask, LL Regeneration VitalCream Mask, Aquanature skincare line,Bodysilhouette Firming Body Lotion,Bustcontour Firming Bust Care and thesun protection product line SUN. Theall-rounder algae is an ingredient inmany TAUTROPFEN and DADO SENSproducts as well.

SALICORNIAThis marsh plant can survive up to sixhours without water at low tide. Nativeto the mud flats of coastal sea areas, itis very rich in minerals. Salicornia, alsoknown as glasswort, is an old wild veg-etable that enjoys great popularityamong gourmets. With its rather saltyflavor and fleshy consistency, it – adds arefined note to seared or roasted– greensalads, fish dishes an pasta. This is whysalicornia is sometimes referred to as“sea asparagus.” Salicornia Herbaceaextract is one of the active substancestars in the ANNEMARIE BÖRLINDAquanature skincare series: it supportsthe skin’s vital moisture-binding func-tion by promoting urea synthesis.

Well-protected andsoftly bronzedThe gray clouds are finallymaking way for the true star of the summer. The sun is wearing its most winning smile. If well-protected, skin can be as radiant as the sunshine.

The cold days are over. Let there be light! Weall know how good a brief sunbath feels:our spirits revive, filling us with a sense of

joy. The sun releases our happiness hormones. Inparticular serotonin. It also enables the skin toform sufficient amounts of Vitamin D, a hor-mone essential for bone formation and healthymuscles. The cells in our immune system alsoneed Vitamin D in order to transform into activekiller cells. However, ten minutes of sunbathingare fully sufficient for a hormone rush.

Those who want to spend more time in thesun without protection should know both whattheir own limits are and what light protectionfactor they need. While the Celtic skin type –with very fair skin and freckles – should stay inthe sun for no more than five to ten minuteswithout protection, the Mediterranean type –

with light brown skin and dark hair – can lingernearly 40 minutes outside without sun cream.

Skin tans even with sun cream, but more gently

The body’s own protective system, made up ofDNA, melanin and hair, works differently foreach person: however, its cannot absorb an un-limited amount of UV rays and transform theminto heat. UVA rays penetrate deep into the der-mis, where they damage the tissue and gener-ate free radicals. At some point, this will makethe skin look old. UVB rays affect the epidermis, causing sunburns and promoting the occur-rence of skin cancer. The right sun protectionproducts can help to reduce this risk. If your bodyhas a self-protection time of ten minutes, SPF 30

From SPF 10 to 30, creams, sprays, milks, lotions and even mildfluids, the SUN line has the perfect product for everyone. All products meet the strict requirements of the European Commis-sion for protection against UVA and UVB rays. The protective

complex is made from highly effective sunscreen and Kombuseaweed extract. The questionable UV filter octocrylene is notused. Additional nourishing extracts in the series: sea buckthorn,Vitamin E, panthenol, allantoin, rice, rosemary, and more.

will theoretically enable you to spend 300 min-utes in the sun. However, dermatologists advisereturning to the shade after two-thirds of themaximum time.

Three-fold protection: UV filter, radical catcher, moisturizer

For safe time in the sun, the products from theANNEMARIE BÖRLIND SUN line contain a com-bination of highly effective UV filters and extractof Kombu seaweed, which has developed itsown protective system to cope with hours ofbright sun exposure during low tide. Sun-stressed skin needs more than just protec-tion, however. Its natural hydrolipid mantle is

especially affected by exposure to sunlight. Inorder to support this natural antioxidant filmcomposes of a mixture of sebum, sweat, lipids, amino acids and older skin cells, sun productsnourish the skin with moisturizing extracts, re-generating active substances and radical catch-ers: Panthenol, also known as Provitamin B5, andallantoin, harvested from comfrey or wheatgerm, moisturizes and soothe the skin. Sea buck-thorn and Vitamin E help to combat aging of theskin. DNA-Protect Sun Cream contains an addi-tional active ingredient complex made from sug-arcane, rice and rosemary. It protects against freeradicals and supports DNA repair in the cells. With perfect preparation, you can enjoy yourtime in the sun to the fullest! n

A Quiet Heroine

The front door of the Elisabethstiftrings in the middle of the night. It isthe police with a three-year-old girl.

Her name is Anna. Her face is as white assnow. Delicate, thin and rigid with fear, shekeeps her eyes tightly closed. But is it fearalone that keeps her even from blinking?“No,” recalls Sister Edith, “we learned thatthe little girl had not once seen the light ofday. For two weeks, Anna could not beareven a ray of sunshine.”

Children are given new hope at the Elisabethstift

Anna spent the first three years of her lifein an attic apartment. With no windows. Nochairs. No bed. A mattress was her onlycomfort. “If we tried touch her, shescreamed as if it was a matter of life ordeath. I can remember it as if it were yesterday. You don’t forget something likethat,” says the nun, visibly moved.

Today, Anna is 29 years old and complet-ing a doctorate in computer science. “Westill maintain very good contact with oneanother,” says the deaconess with a smile. After starting to heal both physically andemotionally, Anna was adopted. In Anna’stime at the orphanage, Sister Edith, her fel-low nuns and the educators gave her all thethings she may otherwise have never expe-rienced: safety, care, a sense of being impor-tant, love a real home. children and young adults face situationsmuch like this girl did. The Elisabethstiftorphanage in Berlin has room for 146 chil-dren ages 0 to 18. Sister Edith keeps a detailed record of each individual child’sstory.“ I have looked after more than300 children in my nearly 40 years in liv-ing groups,” she says in summary.

Growing up in keeping with the motto: “Live, learn, play”

Her eyes light up with happiness whenshe talks about her protégées wholearned to smile again at the orphanage. Each small soul has its own unique story.Every child must be viewed as an individ-ual. What helps one, might make anotherskeptical. Many children are initially with-drawn, will not let anyone near them, can-not even let down their guard in play.

At the end of last year, Sister Edith accepted, on behalf of the Elisabethstift, the Surprise Bambi and a monetary dona-tion from the “Tribute to Bambi – Aid forChildren in Need” foundation. “When

I heard Sister Edith speaking on the stage,I new right away,” explains Daniela Lindner, mother of four and a member ofthe BÖRLIND management team. WhenJohannes B. Kerner surprised Sister Edithwith the golden trophy, she humbly said:“If I had known this was going to happen,I wouldn’t have come.” A very modest per-son, she does not like being feted asa heroine. But she is one to me. A quietheroine, whose untiring dedication we areglad to support as a natural cosmeticscompany,” promises Daniela Lindner.

Crisis manager, nurse, educator andtrusted confidant – that was Sister Edith’srole for hundreds of traumatized childrenfor 40 years of service. She recently retired.Well, almost. She can’t stop entirely andstill actively supports the orphanagemanager in her many tasks: “When I go tothe supermarket, I sometimes take one ofthe children with me. And in the evenings,I like to walk through the living groupsand play with them a little. After all, theElisabethstift is my home. I spent the majority of my life here.” n

THANKFUL. Sister Edith is delighted by the support from BÖRLIND.

HUMOROUS. “I always knew I never wanted tomarry but that I would have lots of children.”

brand in 29 U.S. states. At the pre-Oscar reception amongthe breathtaking ambiance of Villa Aurora, actress Christiane Paul presented the guests with natural cosmetics from ANNEMARIE BÖRLIND as well as thenominees from the German co-productions “Liebe,” “The Gatekeepers” and “Open Heart.”

On February 24, the long-awaited announcement wasfinally made: And the Oscar goes to Michael Haneke andhis touching melodrama “Liebe.” “I already saw the film atthe film festival in Cannes and am very pleased that itwon,” said Paul. Summing up his impressions, he says: “I was deeply touched by the film because of its stark portrayal of aging and how we must come to termswith death. As is typical ofHaneke, he spares theviewer nothing.” The awardfor the best American filmwent to “Argo” from Ben Affleck, while the German-Austrian actor Christoph Waltztook home the Oscar for bestsupporting actor in QuentinTarantino’s western “DjangoUnchained.” With a laugh, Christiane Paul recalls a com-ment by a critic published in thenewspaper “USA Today” beforethe award ceremony: “Tommy LeeJones will get it, but it should goto Christoph Waltz.” It did. A happyend à la Hollywood. Just the way itis supposed to be. n

BÖRLIND makeup at the pre-Oscar party Villa Aurora in Los Angeles is the perfect venue for a re-ception to honor the German Oscar nominees: GermanFilms, the information and advisory center that pro-motes German films worldwide, invites the teams fromGerman co-productions to the famous artists’ residence each year. “I was a guest here once before,13 years ago,” says Christiane Paul. “It is a place for international cultural encounters and a fantastic temporary residence for German scholarship holders

from the spheres of film, art and literature.” The approx-imately 600 guests included actress Veronica Ferres,Udo Kier and Tyron Ricketts. Well-known media person-alities such as presenter Karen Webb, columnists MarieWaldburg and Ariane Sommer as well as Patricia Riekel,editor-in-chief of the German women’s magazine“Bunte” were also present. BÖRLIND Lead DeveloperGuylaine Le Loarer reportson projects around theworld and the challengesthey face.

What projects are supported? We have been actively involved infair trade for years now. For exam-ple, we purchase biological fairtrade oils from Kenya, rose oil androse water from a project in the Iranian province of Kerman andshea butter from Mali.

What is especially importantin the cooperation with theMalians?I think genuine affection for thepeople and the culture is essential.Mutual trust, in the form of accepting and understanding one another’s differences, is also im-portant. We are dependent on thegood will of the Malians as well, because of the detailed documen-tation, reports, etc. that we need

for our certification. The languageis the key: Thankfully I speakFrench – as my mother tongue, otherwise I could not supervisethe projects there.

What are some of the typicaldifficulties in sourcing raw materials for cosmetic products?Because they are plant-based sub-stances, the quantity can varygreatly depending on the weather, harvest and processing conditions. The shea nut harvest in summer of2012 was poor because of thedrought. The Malians tell me theyexpect a very good harvest this sum-mer, however, because the trees areblooming heavily right now. Wehave meanwhile achieved a verygood quality butter that has beenbiocertified (Ecocert). Our on-siteteam is currently processing the se-cond harvest from the summer of2012. The nuts have been stored inthe village since the harvest and arenow being brought to the non-pro-fit cooperative Jigiya Bon where they

will be processed into butter. Amongother things, this cooperative ensu-res that the women receive a fairwage for their hard work. The fin -ished shea butter, also known as ka-rite butter, is transported to Bamakoby truck and then flown to Germanyby plane. Transport takes a total offour days.

How is the project affected bythe current political situationin Mali?Happily, our project is continuing. The village is three hours south ofMali’s capital city of Bamako, whichis in the south of the country. So far, only the north has been affected bythe unrest. We are naturally con -cerned that the situation could escalate nationwide. If I did not inform the production manager ofthe situation in the north as often asI do, she wouldn’t know anythingabout it because dissemination ofnews in the bush is very difficult. There is no Internet, my text messages are their only source of information.

Light-footed all day long: natural strengthening forblood vessels

Weak veins need help. DADO SENShas developed a powerful new activesubstance combination made fromfour different plants for daily skincare.

After a long day, even the soft band of silk socksfeels like a hard rope on the calves. The legs arerestless, tingling, swollen and feel as if they are

burning. One in every five women is affected. “It’s a widespread affliction,” says the Deutsche Venen-Liga e.V.

Every day, the blood vessels transport 7,000 liters ofblood –working against gravity – back to the heart. Thisfeat is made possible by the calf muscle pump and thevenous valves. If the venous valve does not close correctly, the flow of blood back to the heart is slowed. Blood

gathers in the legs. The walls of the blood vessels becomeincreasingly instable, enabling fluid to escape into thesurrounding tissues and causing the legs to swell. Spiderveins appear. When this happens, the veins in the epidermis are visible as red or dark blue lines.

A mix of treatments is the best: cooling, movement, hot and cold water baths

Potential serious consequences of weak veins are varicose veins, vein infections and thromboses. Risk factors include long periods of time spent standing or sitting, crossing the legs, tight clothing, alcohol, exces-sive sun exposure and long baths in overly hot water.Women who wear high heels on a daily basis weakenthe function of the calf muscle pump in the long term.Doctors recommend increasing the elasticity of theveins. A regular diet the includesfish, linseed oil and nuts suppliesimportant omega-3 fatty acids helpspromote the elasticity of the veins.

Prevention: do something good for your veins every day

You should always have a medical care producton hand to help combat swollen legs and spiderveins. Products containing horse chestnut extractare the best choice. It is well known for strengthen-ing the walls of the blood vessels, sealing them andpreventing water from collecting in the tissues. In addition, it features impressive anti-inflammatory prop-erties. And in combination with other plant extracts, horse chestnut can do even more! The new productDADO SENS AVIOLA Refreshing Leg Gel was developedwith Aristotle’s motto – “The whole is more than thesum of its parts” – in mind. In addition to horse chestnut, the following extracts work in synergy here: rich in Vita-min C, lesser celandine can reduce the size of enlargedveins. This effect is supported by blood orange extract. The citrus fruit also contains hesperidin, a bioflavonoidthat strengthens collagen and tissue. In addition, a redalgae extract discovered only a few years ago regulatesmicrocirculation, thereby preventing pooling of blood inthe veins.

This powerful natural quartet is the basis for thenew DADO SENS energizing special care that absorbsrapidly and provides a pleasant cooling sensation. Barre Concept – the new fitness trend from the U.S.A.

at the Barre

Toned upper arms, a firm bottom, shapely legs and a narrow waist.Plus the upright and graceful posture of a prima ballerina – thisworkout turns more than just long-cherished dreams from girlhood into reality.

And one, two, three and one ...,” the instructor’s voice echoes through thehall. In perfect synchronization, eight

women assume a graceful posture at the bar, copying their trainer Vivien Feld from the dancestudio VI-Dance in Münster. On the tips of theirtoes and with legs spread in a V-position, they

sink into a squat while lifting and lowering theirheels, training their buttocks and leg muscles. This plié, also known as first position in ballet, isthe basic position for all exercises in ballet andalso a fixed component of the Barre Concept, the new star in the fitness sky. The word “barre”is French and simply means “bar.”

The whole-body workout withunbeatable aesthetics

The Barre Concept has been practiced in theUnited States for some time now, where it hasattracted prominent fans such as Madonna andDrew Barrymore. “What makes this whole-bodyworkout so unique is that it gently combinesballet techniques with elements of Pilates, yogaand light weight training,” explains. In Germany,

“Everything relating tograce and beauty givesus more self-confidencein everyday life as well.”Sabine Heydecker, Barre Concept trainer

the professional dancer and Pilates and zumbatrainer Sabine Heydecker discovered this train-ing at the bar in 2010. There is none of the rigidstrictness of ballet à la Black Swan here, how-ever. The exercises are elegant, yet the atmos-phere is casual and the fun factor is high.Instead of classical music, sessions are accom-panied by pop songs, much like in a gym. Youwon’t need either ballet shoes or a tutu for aBarre Concept workout. Well-fitting, tight sportsclothing is fully sufficient. Training takes place

in bare feet, much likeyoga. Those who wantto are welcome to wearballet shoes, however. Itis a sure means of in-tensifying the “prima

ballerina” feeling!All of the participants

in Vivien Feld’s coursechose the latter option. “I do

think it is the ballet compo-nent of the workout that en-

tices most women to givethe Barre Concept a try,”

says the instructor.Many women

danced ballet

earlier in their lives and miss this graceful wayof moving. Yet most them can no longer partic-ipate in a real ballet course due to age or illness. This is where the Barre Concept comes in: “Thegreat things is that everyone can do it, eventhose who have a damaged spinal disc, becausethis type of exercise strengthens the back mus-cles and the entire core,” says Feld.

Nearly all of the movementsare soft and flowing

Participants do not need to have past experi-ence with ballet. “The Barre Concept is suitablefor everyone – from women who want to loseweight or tone their figure all the way to profes-sional athletes seeking a new challenge,” addsFeld. “The objective of the training is to achievethe physically balanced body of a dancer withstomach, legs and buttocks aesthetically defined by the exercises and a posture that radiates attractiveness and vitality.”

The starting point of the training is alwaysthe first ballet position and centering of thecore. This is accomplished by tightening themuscles of the stomach and tipping the pelvisforward, a movement known as the “tuck.” Alter-nating between dynamic exercise sequences at

the bar and on the matt, the Barre Concept givesevery muscle a good workout. “It promotes thestrength, flexibility, endurance, speed and elasticity of the muscles,” Feld explains. Eachtensioning phase is followed by a relaxingstretching phase. The deeper the stretch, themore wonderful the feeling of relaxation. Thispositive body experience is not just fun, it trig-gers feelings of happiness. One quickly learns toconsciously experience and enjoy each individual exercise.

These targeted stretching units enhancethe elasticity of the muscles and tendons andincrease circulation. “That promotes flexibility,”Feld explains. “Because of the high proportionof stretching, the program is also especiallysuited for men, who often have shortened muscles that can lead to a limited range of motion.” Participants can see themselves in the

mirror the entire time, helping to prevent incorrect posture. There are many details thatmust be taken into account in every move andone needs to concentrate in order to performthe exercises correctly. Everyday thoughts andproblems must be put aside as a result of thehigh level of concentration necessary for themovements – making the Barre Concept idealfor re-focusing the mind while acquiring a goodsense of body awareness at the same time.

You can definitely expect sore musclesafter the initial training session. Once thisphase is over, however, a wonderful sense oflightness ensues – both mentally and physi-cally. This workout is an altogether wonderful combination.

In Sissi’s FootstepsThe high road: natural cosmetics in the Alps

Austria loves ANNEMARIEBÖRLIND. Discover the luxuri-ous settings where the brandhas made a home for itself.

Where an exclusive atmos-phere meets exceptionalquality: Kastner & Öhler is

known as one of Austria’s most beauti-ful department stores. Years ago, whenthe flagship store on Sackstraße in Grazadded natural cosmetics to its range, itsought to offer its customers authenticskincare products as well as a taste ofthe French way of life. After all, France isnot only synonymous with fashion, it isalso regarded as the motherland of cos-metics. The trend to natural cosmeticshas long since established itself in themainstream. It is thus only natural that

Kastner & Öhler has expanded the selection of natural cosmetics at all ofits new stores with beauty departmentsand has been successfully carryingthe products from ANNEMARIE BÖRLIND since 2010. “The days in whichnatural cosmetics were only available inhealth food stores are long behind us,”confirms Helga Payer, BÖRLIND Sales Director for Austria. Natural cosmeticshave established a fixed place for them-selves in the lifestyle sector. “This isclearly evident in Austria,” Helga Payeradds. Consumers have become more de-manding. They are questioning conven-tional cosmetics and want to care forthemselves with products containing in-gredients that are good for their skin.“We used to have to fight for placementin exclusive shops. Now the companiescome to us,” says the Sales Director withpleasure. It therefore comes as no

surprise that media interest is growingsteadily as well. More than 40 editors at-tended the most recent ANNEMARIEBÖRLIND product presentation at theRitz-Carlton Hotel in Vienna: “They wereexcited by the variety of our productsand the wealth of plant-based active ingredients,” says Helga Payer.
