It’s not always necessary to take long trips in order to discover new exciting places. In our surroundings there are beautiful natural envi-ronments and fascinating remnants from the past. The purpose of this guide is to attract excursions and experiences in nature that are close at hand.
The places are just a selection of outings within walking and biking distance from Smålandsstenar and Skeppshult. There’s a lot more to discover!

1. Villstad church villageThe cultural landscape in Villstad church village has been designated as being of national interest. There are remains from different time periods in our history, including prehistoric fields, burial grounds and build-ings from the 1700’s and 1800’s. The area is also a nature reserve and has a rich plant and animal life. GPS-coordinates: N 57,200907 E 13,447285
2. BorlångenBy Borlången there’s a nice swimming area. Don’t forget to buy a fishing permit if you want to try your luck at fishing in the lake. GPS-coordinates: N 57,191172 E 13,398477
3. Ancient remain areaBetween Lilla and Stora Haghult there’s a great ancient remain area. There’s more than 400 cultivation cairns which testify that the area has been used for cultivation since the iron ages.GPS-coordinates: N 57,173767 E 13,391966
4. DomarringarnaThe stone circles Domarringarna are located at the homestead museum. The stone circles are one of the county’s most well-known ancient remains. On the site grows the rare flower helichrysum. GPS-coordinates: N 57,171909 E 13,427997
5. BrudstenarnaThe rocks Brudstenarna have according to legend been raised in memory of a bridal procession that was slain by the Danes. According to another version a passerby bridal procession was transformed into these stones through magic. GPS-coordinates: N 57,163462 E 13,431571
6. NissanledenNissanleden is a 8 km long walking trail along the western side of Nissan from Ågårdsfors in the north to Skeppshult in the south. By Svenshult there’s a rest area with fireplace and benches.GPS-coordinates: N 57,136368 E 13,393730
7. Kanotled NissanExperience Nissan from a canoe! The canoe trail Kanotled Nissan is almost 90 km long and extends throughout the whole municipal-ity. One of the trail’s rest areas is located by Skeppshult. GPS-coordinates: N 57,128017 E 13,385936
8. Bölaryds kvarnIn Bölaryd there’s been a mill by Nissan at least since the 1600’s. There’s also been a chair factory, saw and scythe smithy, wire-works, nail manufacturing and hydro power-plant at the site. GPS-coordinates: N 57,124331 E 13,386876
