~ DC Report ~
Hi Everyone,
Wow! What an absolutely fantastic rally we had for our Kiss Goodbye to
MS! A massive congrats to Hannah Mika for very selflessly giving up her
beautiful hair and doing an awesome job raising so much for the MS
foundation. We helped raise a huge amount of money, and everyone
should feel proud to have been so generous in helping such a great
cause. I’m looking forward to next year’s fundraising rally to see what
worthy cause we can help out next.
I hope everyone got lots of useful info from the Vets from the Bendigo
Equine Hospital. I hope you all now know how important it is to
vaccinate your horses regularly and keep them in good health.
Thank you everyone for being on time for your gear check for the day, it
was good to be able to start on time and not keep our instructors and
guests waiting.
Last month was quite busy with different fundraisers and events. Thank
you very very much to everyone who has put their hand up to help, it is
greatly appreciated. Your committee members really do a great amount
of work behind the scenes, so it’s nice when you guys get the chance to
help out your club. We must remember that a large part of Pony Club is
helping out when needed, and showing our community spirit.
See you next rally!
Rebecca

Did you know....
Australia’s first horses arrived here in
1788. Because of the conditions the
horses lived under, only the fittest
survived. Some horses died during the
voyages. When horse racing was
recognized as a sport in 1810, good
quality thoroughbreds were imported
from England to Australia.
The name Brumby for Australian feral
horses is thought to have been
derived from a James Brumby who
arrived in 1791. James Brumby, was a
soldier with the NSW Corps, he was
also a farrier and it is thought that he
was responsible for some horses in
the early Australian Colony.
When James moved to Tasmania in
1804 it is believed he left some horses
in New South Wales. Locals asked
who owned the horses; "they are
Brumby's" was the reply.
Quote of the Month
“You cannot train a horse with shouts and expect it to obey a whisper”.

~ ANNUAL FUNDRAISING RALLY ~ Each year Eaglehawk’s Neangar Park Pony Club dedicates its August rally (meet) to raising funds for a wonderful cause. This year, after a request from the Club’s own Hannah Mika, it was agreed all monies raised would be donated to KISS MS GOODBYE, a program of MS Research Australia, raising funds to research the cause and cure of Multiple Sclerosis. Sunday, August 2nd was the big day, with Club members, family, friends, and even the Clubrooms, dressed in red and white to show their support for the event. Amongst the normal horse riding and horsemanship activities of a Pony Club rally, NPPC held a ‘Kiss’ raffle, Guess the Number of Lips in the Jar competition, sold cupcakes, and donated the proceeds of the Club’s canteen for the day, raising over $1600 for the fight against MS. The day’s fun and charitable activities culminated in the very brave and selfless decision of Hannah Mika to shave her beautiful long hair to show support for MS suffers and their families. Hannah’s mum, Sharon, started the process by cutting off the multiple hair plats on her daughter’s head. As she chopped, Sharon explained that Hannah’s hair had only ever had the ends trimmed since birth! (Hannah is donating her hair so that it may be used to make a wig for someone who has experienced hair loss due to cancer treatment). Next NPPC’s canteen manager, Andrea Rankin, who herself is an MS sufferer, went to work with the clippers, with the final traces of hair were shaved away by the Club’s District Commissioner, Rebecca Ray. Though admitting her head was “definitely colder” without her hair, Hannah was very pleased with the result, and after proudly donning purpose bought beanie, she put her riding helmet back on, and went off to enjoy the rest of the day’s horse riding.
NPPC Open Gymkhana 2015 Saturday, September 19th
This is always a fun and successful event for all those who participate, with mounted & uncounted classes, and the usual Topsy Ring activities. All levels of riders and ages are most welcome. - As with all such events, people power makes them happen and be a success- SO, put your hand up and volunteer some time for your Club !

~ Annual Bunnigs’ Fundraising BBQ ~
Well done NPPC ! Being held at the new Bunning’s Store in Epsom for the first time this year, our BBQ raised in excess of $900-. This money will secure continued lessons with fantastic instructors at future rallies. Bunnings themselves congratulated our Club on this fantastic achievement, as they had been having reports of low sales at other recent Bunnings BBQ’s due to quiet trading days!!! Superb effort and a HUGE thank you to those who helped on Saturday afternoon or on the day.
~ Gear Check Training Opportunity ~
At every PCAV event, it is critical that a GEAR CHECK be done on every competitor and their mount. The more members we have with the skill and knowledge to do this, the easier it will be to conduct PCAV events at our Club. Therefore, Bec (NPPC DC) will be offering Gear Check lessons at the September Rally, and again in the future. Please, we ask that as many adults as possible take part in these lessons, which are simple yet so important.
In preparation, you may wish to view the PCAV Competition Quick Reference Guide for GEAR CHECKS, which can be found at- http://www.ponyclubvic.org.au/site/ponyclub/vic/downloads/Publications/Rules%20and%20Regulations/Gear%20Rules/Book%20-%20Gear%20Rules%202015.pdf
