Flexible Reading Management

A complete reading management system delivered to your needs:

Subtext complements our extensive background in providing data-driven assessment, teaching, and learning solutions for K12 schools. Its a wonderful and timely addition to Accelerated Reader and STAR. Now, we have a program that gives teachers a complete picture of a students reading.

Whether students are reading on print, digital, or both. Subtext helps expand independent and instructional reading:At your school/districts paceWith your existing materialsOn iPads and (coming soon) with your existing devices, platforms and tools (computers, chromebooks, Google/Edmodo, whatever you have)

TRANSITION TO NEXT SLIDE: There are 4 key components of Subtext. Were going to provide an overview of what these features enable teachers to do in the classroom. Well look at:ReadingCollaborationInstructionMonitoring4/8/2014R568973Company ConfidentialRead Anything Digitally

Subtext is a classroom eReading program that makes it easy to access nearly any digital text. A classroom or group of students can read almost anythingtogether.

Teachers can also access web articles and nonfiction and then simply use the Save to Subtext bookmarklet. Subtext also makes it possible to read and engage in any doc in ePub or PDF format.

Once that text is in Subtext, the possibilities (and data!) are endless.

Digital Library AccessBrowse your public library (Overdrive, Baker & Taylor) Add New Content Anytime

Subtext provides access to an incredible range of content, including a variety of free and paid books. You can search for anything, ePubs or PDFs, or web articles. There is also digital library access that enables you to find digital content from your closest regional library.

Note to Presenter (Technical information for questions, if they arise)BOOKS: We strive to match you with any book youre looking for if youre reading digitally. We partner with Google Books (whose library is about as large as Barnes & Nobles with over 10 mm books.) We also integrate w/ Feedbooksa resource for public domain (free) books. If you want to find your own books, just find any ePub file on sites such as Project Gutenberg.

PDFs: To get a PDF into Subtext, just email it to yourself. Then, open it on your iPad and tap Open in Subtext. Annotations work the same way in PDFs as they do in other reading materials. However, instead of the notes showing up in the margin, you just tap the highlighted passage to see your discussion.

PUBLIC LIBRARY: We launched support for Digital Libraries to match you with as much digital content as possible. How it works: You enter your zip code and find your closest regional library (or school library) if they are powered by Overdrive or Baker & Taylor. Enter your library card once, then the system saves it. Tap on an ebook in the digital library collection and it opens in Subtext. [Note: you cant share a single copy of a book from a digital library with a class, since most library systems want to track that usage by student. Some libraries are starting to carry larger collections for instructional reading. However, for now, digital library access works best for independent reading, where students just need 1 copy at a time]

Subtext has a built-in dictionary to increase students vocabulary and reading comprehension. Students simply double tap to instantly look up a word. This keeps students in the text and prevents them from becoming disengaged or off task.

You can also read the way you like, changing your font size and making notes show up at chapter end if you prefer.

Writing and research tools make it easy to access Google docs from every page. You can search for and copy materials to highlight in Google docs. This helps students support claims and cite evidence and promotes the deeper thinking required for college and career readiness. 4/8/2014R568976Company ConfidentialRead Anywhere, even Off-lineOn iPadsOn the Web*Cross-platform
