Minutesofthe2015AGMDate:7thJuly2016Location:HouseofCommonsThe Chairman, Callum Kennedy opened the meeting and welcomedthosememberspresent.ApologiesforabsenceApologiesweretakenasreadandaccepted.Minutesofthelastmeeting(6thJuly2015)TheChairmaninvitedanyquestionsregardingtheminutesofthelastmeeting.Therewerenone.TheChairmanaskedforamotiontoaccepttheminutesofthe2015AGM.ThemotionwasproposedbyDickPorter(HonoraryPresident)andsecondedbyDanTorbett(CityCruises).MattersarisingfromminutesofthelastmeetingTherewerenone.ExecutiveDirector’sReportontheactivitiesoftheassociationTheExecutiveDirectorhighlightedthekeypointsinherreportthathadbeencirculatedtomembersbeforethemeeting.AcopycanbefoundintheMembersOnlysectionoftheBETAwebsite.The Chairman invited questions to the Director’s Report. There werenone.TheChairmanthankedandcongratulatedtheSecretariatfortheirworkin developing and delivering a series of successful events during theyear.

A motion to accept the Director’s Report was proposed by PhilHoughton (Safestay) and seconded by Adam Reeves (Thames RiverServices).SubmissionandApprovaloftheAssociation’saccountsThe Chairman presented the association accounts and talked throughthebalancesheet.Therewerenocommentsorquestions.Amotiontoendorse the 2015 accounts was proposed by Dick Porter (HonoraryPresident)andsecondedbySteveLowy(AngloEducationalServices).Submissionandapprovalofthe2016budgetTheExecutiveDirectorgaveanoverviewofthe2016budgetaddingthatthe year was already running very well. The Chairman said that theBoard of Directors felt comfortable that the budget was realistic andachievable. The Chairman asked for a motion to endorse the 2016Budget. This was proposed by Ronaldo da Silva (Britannia StudentServices)andsecondedbyDanBaker(StudentUniverse).MotionssubmittedbymembersTherewerenone.ElectionoftheDirectorsThe Chairman explained that several of the directors had reached theendoftheirtermofoffice.Thesememberswere:MarkAnderson,AndersonToursRonaldodaSilva,BritanniaStudentServicesCallumKennedy,KMCL(Chairman)KeithKnowles,StChristopher’sInnsJeannieShapiro,ThinkJeannieThe Chairman went on to say that Steve Lowy (Anglo EducationalServices)hadalsoreachedtheendofhistermofoffice,buthadagreedto stand again for another term. He added that Stevewould also betakingontheroleofassociationchairman,arolethatwouldbeformallyratifiedatthenextmeetingoftheBoardofDirectors.

The Chairman went on to propose a motion to elect a series of newboardmembers,thesewere:GraemeWard,HaggisAdventuresPaulHalpenny,HostelworldAmandaBroderick,NewcastleUniversity,LondonMurrayRoberts,StChristopher’sInnsDanBaker,StudentUniverseThe motion was unanimously accepted and the newly appointeddirectors were welcomed into office. The Chairman added that theboard are voluntarymembers of the associationwho’s termsof officewould last for three years. Thesenewlyelectedmemberswould jointheexistingboardmembersandmakeup theBETABoardofDirectorsfortheperiod2016-17:SteveLowy,AngloEducationalServices(Chairman)HuanJapes,EnglishUKGraemeWard,HaggisAdventuresPaulHalpenny,HostelworldAmandaBroderick,NewcastleUniversity,LondonEmmaHudson,STATravelMurrayRoberts,StChristopher’sInnsDanBaker,StudentUniverseAnyotherbusinessTheHonoraryPresidentDickPortercongratulatedtheChairmanandthesecretariatonanothersuccessfulyear.Healsowentontothankthoseresigningboardmembersfortheirlongserviceandcommitmenttotheassociationandcongratulatedthenewlyelectedofficers.DateandtimeofnextAGMDetailsonthenextAnnualGeneralMeetingaretobeadvised.TheChairmanthankedthosememberspresent.Healsothankedthoseboardmembersstandingdownandcongratulatedthosenewlyelected.Themeetingwasformallyclosed.

DirectorsReportTheassociationwasfounded14yearsagoandourofficiallaunchwasattheHousesofParliamenton7thApril2003.Thetwomainobjectiveswereandstillremain:

• toraisetheprofileoftheyouth,studentandeducationaltravelsectorto,from,andwithintheUK

• tocreateanetworkingfororganisationsengagedinthesectortomeet,networkandtrade.

Inordertobegintooperateagroupof8organisationscametogethertoprovidenon-interestbearingloanstotheassociation.Theseorganisationsare:

§ ArdmoreGroup§ Eurocentres§ EuroJob§ STATravel§ StChristopher’sInns§ StudyGroup§ Twin§ WYSETravelConfederation

Thefounderloanshaveenabledtheassociationtobuildasolidplatformfromwhichtooperateandgrowthenetwork.Todate91%oftheseoriginalfounderloanshavebeenrepaidentirely.WeestimatethatbyDecember2018theremaining97%willberepaidinfull.Anillustrationoftherepaymenttrendisshownoverthepage.

Eventsareakeydriverfortheassociationintermsofvisibility,memberretentionandrecruitment.InadditiontothesekeyeventswealsodeliveredaTheatreandNetworkingeveningalongsideMadeandRipley’sBelieveitorNot!whichattracted60+delegates.WealsodeliveredaYouthIndustrySeminarwhichwaskindlyhostedbytheArcelorMittalOrbit,whichfocusedoninfluencermarketingandthegrowthofvideo,whichwasagreatevent,andattracted70+members.TheseeventsareFREEtoBETAmembersandprovideanexcellentopportunitytocometogethertonetwork,tradeandshareideaswithotherlikemindedprofessionals.

ResearchInSeptember2016theboardcommittedtodeliveringanewresearchproject.WeappointedStudentMarketingawellknownresearchteamtodelivertheprojectwhichisnowcalled“UnlockingtheValueofYouthTravel”TheaimwastoenhancetheauthoritativevoiceofBETAbygeneratingfreshresearchandintelligencethatwillinformbothprivateandpublicsectorstakeholdersoperatinginsideandoutsideoftheyouth,studentandeducationaltravelindustry.

Objectives

• highlightthevolumeandvalue,theeconomicandnon-economicbenefitsofthistypeoftravel

• highlightthebehaviours,trendsandmotivationsforyoungpeoplechoosingtotravel,work,studyabroad

• collect,collateandevaluateuptodatefactsandfiguresthatcanbeusedwithinpressandanalyticalreports

• provideacredible,balancedview/summaryofissuesaffectingtheindustry

• assessBritain’scompetitivenessasayouthdestinationKeyoutputs

1. EstimatethesizeandvalueoftheUKinboundyouth,studentandeducationaltravelmarket.Thiswillneedtobebrokendownintosegmentsi.e.educationaltravel,studyabroadetc.

2. Sectorcharacteristicstodayandforecastsfortomorrow.TolookatsupplyanddemandanalysisofBritainonaglobalscale,withpossiblecomparisonstoothertravelsegmentsorindustries.Utiliseindustrystakeholderperspectivestoinformissuesaffectingtheindustry/barrierstogrowth.

3. Showcasethepositiveimpactsofinternationalyouthtravel,economic,social,cultural,politicalperspectives.

TheprojectstartedinOctober2016andtheprocesswastogatherandanalyseexistingdata,conductanonlinesurveyforUKandinternationalstakeholders,plusindepthinterviews.

A motion to endorse the 2016accountswasproposedbyCallumKenned(KMCL)andsecondedbyMurrayRoberts.(StChristopher’sInns).Submissionandapprovalofthe2017budgetThe ExecutiveDirector gave anoverviewof the 2017budget adding that the yearwasalready runningverywell. TheChairmansaid that theBoardofDirectors feltcomfortablethatthebudgetwasrealisticandachievable.TheChairmanaskedforamotiontoendorsethe2017Budget.ThiswasproposedbyHuanJapes(EnglishUK)andsecondedbyGarethCahill(CMSHospitality).MotionssubmittedbymembersTherewerenone.ElectionoftheDirectorsTheChairmanexplainedthatboardmemberssitforathree-yeartermofofficeandat this AGM EmmaHudson (STA Travel) would be standing down from the boardaftercompletinghertermandthankedherforhercontributionduringhertermofoffice.He went on to propose a motion to elect Michele da Silva (Britannia StudentServices)tofillthisposition.Hewentontosaythathavingbeeninthebusinessfor30+yearsandcoveringhomestaysandotherareasthatMichelewasawelcomenewadditiontotheboardandaskedthatthememberspresentedendorsedthischange.Thechairmanalsoproposedamotiontore-electDickPorterasHonoraryPresidentoftheassociationforanotherthree-yearterminrecognitionofhislongserviceandcontribution.TheBETAboardofdirectorsfortheperiod2017/18SteveLowy,AngloEducationalServices(Chairman)HuanJapes,EnglishUKGraemeWard,HaggisAdventuresPaulHalpenny,HostelworldAmandaBroderick,NewcastleUniversity,LondonMicheledaSilva(BritanniaStudentServices)MurrayRoberts,StChristopher’sInns(ViceChairman)DanBaker,StudentUniverseDickPorter(HonoraryPresident)

He also thanked those boardmembersstandingdownandcongratulatedthosenewlyelected.Themeetingwasformallyclosed.
