NEW BOYS “TIE ME DOWN”

ANALYIS OF VIDEO

Page 2: New Boys

Relationship between Lyrics and Visuals.

• Most music videos are cut to the beat. For this particular song by “New boyz” Tie me down, each cut is on the beat. The lyrics and the video are closely linked for example when one of the singers says “ cuz you aint gone tie me down” he literally pushes the girl away which directly refers to the lyrics.

• This song their second single is very much linked to their debut “ you’re a jerk”, which is a dance song, during this video of “ tie me down we can see some of these elements of both videos being incorporated together e.g. the scene where they are all dancing together is also an example of how the video cuts to the beat.

• The lyrics and the video are basically saying the boys are players and they do not want to commit to one relationship because they are two young to get tied down hence the title of the song, they would rather date more people.

Dancing is a big part of the band’s image and they manage to put that across during the video the pictures are examples if how the visuals and lyrics tie in together. The tempo drives most of the track everything is cut to the beat e.g. when they dance or clap their hands it’s always to the beat.

These two clips show how the lyrics and the video are linked they are basically showing the guy surrounded by so many girls and the clip above shows him pushing away one female this means that he doesn’t want to be with one girl he wants more.

Doesn't want to commit to one girl, this scene shows him pushing the girl away, this links in with the lyrics “ you aint gone tie me Down”

GENRES and Star Iconography.• Over the years hip-pop culture has changed with new groups like “Retro kids” who are a reminiscent of the

1980s-90s. The “new boyz” have come with a new style of wearing vibrant skinny jeans as their formal trade mark. They have come with a new hip-pop culture that’s linked with tight fighting clothes and dancing. The genre was always associated with half naked women running around and the rappers showing of their jewellery with their baggy clothes. But with a new makeover “New boys” style is easy to recognise no matter what video or song they do just like many other artists like Lady Gaga their style is distinct because of their bright coloured jeans and school boy look they have made themselves house hold names with only one album to their name.

Hip-pop videos tend to have big beats that cut well to the video, And this particular genre tends to have dance routines the dancingIn this video is loosely based on their debut single your are jerk andThat is the video style of this song and genre below are some picturesShowing the style and genre of this video. Its all about bright clothesDance routines and that school boy look this is bound to draw in a Target market if the age that’s between 16-20.

THE DANCE ROUTINE THAT ARE SEEN IN HIP-POP VIDEOS

The new style of hip-pop artists wearing Bright vibrant clothes e.g. skinny jeans being theTrade mark.

The school boy look that will appealTo young teenagers between the ages of 16-20. Over time they will be known forThis particular style which has already Became part of their image.

RepresentationAlthough the song might be catchy and the beats are addictive

easy to dance to. Most teenagers are most likely to listen to their

songs but without paying attention to the lyrics or the message the

video is trying to send or portray. The song is degrading to women

Just like many other hip-pop videos this one is know exception.

With lyrics like

“Like who the hell is this bitch,Lookin a hot mess,

What you fell for this chick? You know we got problems and you failed to fix it,

I'm like, you need to go somewhere else with this shit,Cause I ain't gon put up with you”.

The representation of women is not a pleasant one, for example when

“Ray j” one of the artists is surrounded by women and the other

Scene where the girl looks desperate to be with the male it’s clear to

See that there luck of respect for the female and her feelings.

The group is presented in this way also because it’s there to reflect

Young males and their culture e.g. boys are supposed to date more

than one girl and they are not supposed to commit if they treat their

girlfriends bad then they statues amongst their friends moves up and

they are then respected.

• The scene where they two main artists push each other so that they can pick out the girls they like is a poor representation of females its like to say they can have what ever they want and the girl just fall for it.

This clip shows a Girl being picked from the internet. As though they are shopping for clothes

These clips show scenes of the male artists looking on the internet for pretty girls The ones they don’t like they delete them and replace them with better looking girls. The second clip reads “ codes verified” so show that they have selected the girls they Want. That is why they special effects of the video resemble a computer.

Close ups are important because they keep a relationship between the audience.

I like the visual effectsAnd they have inspiredMe to use similar effectsFor my project.

The “new boyz” are a new hip-pop band who have a new and exclusive style comparedto other artists that are around at the moment. Their trade mark is bright colouredSkinny jeans, up beat tunes that so many people have been following since they have come out for example below shows some examples of this. These are clips that show peopleUploading their own versions of the dance to Utube, it has became a minnie franchise.

People areNow dancingLike the “NEWBOYZ” this trendStarted of from theirFirst video “ your jerk”

“Jerkin has became part of the hip-popCulture now and a lot of young people areFollowing and copying that trend”.

Some of the dancing elements of the song “ you’re a jerk” can be seen in theirNew single that I am analysing “ tie me down”.

VISUALS, EDITING & CAMERAWORK

This video uses slow paced shot transitions to set the mood, and the video uses Special effects to make the video interesting in the case of this video they use Colourisation and the cinematic effects to give the video CGI special effects.

Example of colourisation

The editing of this video is quite slow it contrasts well with the mood of the slow songsTend to have slower videos to go with the editing. The camera tends to circles around The band and the extras throughout the video to establish stage performance. There are lots of close ups of the artists this creates aRelationship between them and the audience. These features are seen in different types of Mise en scene.

The video looks very clean cut because it’s their new second single And when artists come out with new material they tend to try make their artists Stand out from any other singers that are around at that time that’s why they Demand lots of close ups to enlarge their personas. The video was directed byMatt Alonzo who tends to make sure that the video’s reflect the target marketThat they artists are trying to appeal to.

During each cut, the artists are made to look different compared to other extrasIn the video this is to show they are different. Matt Alonzo likes to do this in his Videos.

Lyrics are there to establish a general feeling this video does Not really have a narrative because it rare that aSong illustrate the lyrics from the beginning right through to theEnd of the video.

The target market for this particularGroup would for young people Between the ages of 16-20s.

“No Im not going make a scene,But you cant tie me down like a pair of shoe strings”
