President’s Report.Hello to all members and friends. Well we are another year older now that 2020 is now our operating year. 2019 was a good year for our club. We had 12 great shows with really good attendances. Kevin has worked well on his bookings for 2020 and we, as a committee, are happy with the upcoming program.

Next month, February 2nd, will be the club’s 31st birthday. The band will be Palomino Deluxe, one of the best bands around. Whilst we are mentioning Palomino Deluxe, I regret to advise our members that Tim Windsor, the band leader, and his wife were most unfortunate to have their house at Charleston destroyed in the recent bush fires. In a manner of respect for Tim and his wife, the ‘hat’ was passed around at the January show and I am proud to say that everybody threw money into the hat/bucket and as a result we collected $902 with a further $250 from the Adelaide Country Music Club. Tim was very appreciative and has acknowledged his thanks to the members, visitors and the ACMC.

Back in the past years of our club we had a membership of approximately 550 members. A conference meeting of all c/music clubs back in the mid nineties (about 6 clubs then) passed a motion to have a ‘reciprocal’ membership adopted. Reciprocal means that any member of the current clubs could enter each club at members door entry fees. This actually lessened the membership numbers of all clubs as being a member of one club gained access to all clubs. Now, our membership went from 550 to 250 over the many years and as such we have members with high numbered cards. The committee want to streamline our membership cards by being able to have the membership number actually printed on the Member’s card. To do this it will be necessary to reallocate the high membership numbers to a number between 2 and 250. There are many vacant numbers in this number range for allocation. There may be a number that you may prefer and so ask (when renewing) the Secretary/Membership officer if your preferred number is available.

I am pleased to advise that committee member Bob Burner has now been appointed to the position of Vice President and as a result of this promotion, we still require appointments for 2 committee positions. Please nominate and join

the committee which I must say is a pretty united group. Our December ’19 show was Heartland with guest artist Sandie Dodd, from Melbourne. Sandie is a class performer. A great day with everyone going home happy. Our January gig was Judith Waugh and Key Country

band and guest artist Johnny Florence. A very good day indeed. Johnny may be up in years but his voice is immaculate. Our February show will be Palomino Deluxe with guest artist Paul Walker.Keep it Country, Dean Beviss

Len and Lorraine Wakefield Memorial FundSubject to certain conditions, the purpose of the fund is to assist younger talent with proven ability: a) in entering talent quests throughout South Australia, Mildura and Tamworth, b) by payment or part payment of professional tuition, and c) towards the cost of a musical instrument. The fund is administered by the ACMC committee with expenditure limited to the interest from capital invested (plus raffles from time to time), with all payments made to the appropriate body. Annually an awardee is chosen by the Full Committee. Contributions to the fund, which may be made to the club treasurer at any time will be acknowledged in the club newsletter.

After Lorraine’s passing the fund was renamed to include Lorraine’s name. The selection procedure has had to be changed slightly as there are fewer talent contests held at present than in the past.
