Student Support Year 11 - Only 5 Weeks Away from First Exam I spoke with Y11 students this week to emphasise how close they are to their examinaons starng. With only 5 weeks to go I outlined how important it is that they maintain their work levels and, in some cases, raise their work rate. With the period of me being relavely short I outlined how they can now make a series of sacrifices and “sprint” to the finishing line. Many students are working very hard already and it is important that they maintain that pace but those that have not been stretching themselves can make a considerable amount of difference to their results in these last few weeks. We ran a large number of extra classes during the Easter break and will be running others at the weekend in the coming weeks. There will also be extra classes for some in the May half-term. On top of all of this there are extra classes in most subjects running on every day of the week between 3.00pm and 4.30 pm. We have also just issued each student with a booklet to support the run in to the examinaon period, outlining the support available and helping them develop a revision plan. It is hard work but as I said to them in my assembly, connuing with the running analogy, this is the last lap of the race and for that period of me they can all push themselves a lile harder. It will reap benefits. We wish them well and hope you are able to support them through this period but if you have concerns do feel free to make contact with us. Headteacher Appointment Process Following the first round of interviews when governors decided there was not a suitable candidate, they have now re-adversed the post and are conducng interviews next week on Wednesday 20 th and Thursday 21 st April. The Full Governing Body will meet on the evening of the 21 st April to rafy the appointment commiee’s decision. They will then inform parents. 60 th Anniversary I menoned this in the last Newsleer and can now confirm that plans are being firmed up as you will note from the flier in this edion. We hope this will be a fun event at which you may catch-up with many an old friend and ancipate it being well aended so do get your ckets early but also pass the message on to others. Year 11 - Only 5 Weeks Away from First Exam I spoke with Y11 students this week to emphasise how close they are to their examinations starting. With only 5 weeks to go I outlined how important it is that they maintain their work levels and, in some cases, raise their work rate. Headteacher Appointment Process Following the first round of interviews when governors decided there was not a suitable candidate, they have now re-advertised the post and are conducting interviews next week on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st April. The Full Governing Body will meet on the evening of the 21st April to ratify the appointment committee’s decision. They will then inform parents.

60th Anniversary I mentioned this in the last Newsletter and can now confirm that plans are being firmed up as you will note from the flier in this edition. We hope this will be a fun event at which you may catch-up with many an old friend and anticipate it being well attended so do get your tickets early but also pass the message on to others. Please feel free to use Twitter, Facebook etc as the more we have attending the better the occasion. Last time at our 50th there were well over 700 in attendance. Local church donation to refurbish our ‘safe haven’ for

young people. Year 11 student Holly Evetts was given the opportunity by her youth group at Kings Church, Eastbourne,

to make a substantial donation to a worthy cause of her choice. On occasion, during her time at WCS,

Holly had found the small area, situated within the LINC1 Inclusion Room, a place where she could sit and

feel calm and safe. With a desire for that provision to benefit others, Holly suggested a donation be made

to the school in order to refurbish the room, making it more attractive and user friendly for young people.

With the generous monetary gift the room received a

makeover, which not only provided students with a space

where they can feel calm and reflective, but also a quiet

work area, and somewhere they can receive 1:1 pastoral

support. LINC1 Managers, Lorraine Curryer and Beverley

Midgley are thrilled to be able to provide a safe haven where

students can escape the stress and the hustle and bustle,

which is often a part of school life.

Mrs Curryer

Ski Trip 2017 I am delighted to announce that the school will once again be organising a school ski trip during the 2017 February half-term break next year to Austria for Year 10 and 11 students (current Year 9 and 10 students). Letters will be available from Mr Brennan from Monday 25th April. The trip will officially open at lunch time on Monday 2nd May. As places are limited selection will be on a first come first served basis. No reply slips or money will be collected before that time.
