Mason Geertsen Waivers, NY Rangers
Ryan Graves Trade, Colorado
Dougie Hamilton UFA, Carolina
Christian Jaros Trade, San Jose
PLAYER NOTES
TEACH ME HOW TO DOUGIE
Dougie Hamilton wasted no time inking his name into Devils history. The blueliner set a franchise and NHL record during the team’s season opener on
Friday night.
Hamilton’s goal 0:17 into the game marked the fastest goal to start a season in franchise history, which surpassed Zach Parise’s previous mark of 0:26
(Oct. 6, 2006, @ CAR, 4-0 W), per NHL PR.
Hamilton also became just the third player, and first defenseman, in NHL history to score within the opening 0:17s of their first game with a team (Per
NHL PR).
The fastest goal to start a game, not season, in franchise history was 0:08 which was accomplished three times:
Chuck Arnason, Rockies, 1/28/1977; Kirk Muller, Devils, 12/13/1988; Alexander Semak, Devils, 3/9/1993.
HUGH-GE GOAL
Jack Hughes netted two goals on Friday and earned his second career overtime game-winning goal. The tally also marked his fourth game-winner and
second multi-goal game for his career.
At 20 -years-old (154 days), only three skaters have earned more game-winner at age 20 or younger – Nico Hischier (6), Wilf Paiement (6, KCS) &John
MacLean (5) {Credit/NHL Pr). Hughes also set a new career-high with six takeaways.
NO MERCY
Rookie forward Dawson Mercer didn’t hesitate to earn his first career NHL point. No. 18 almost found the back of the net after hitting the post from the
left hash-mark during the third period.
Luckily, the puck landed in the crease and his linemate in Andreas Johnsson buried the rebound for his sixth career goal in a Devils sweater.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Newcomers, Ryan Graves and Tomas Tatar, also collected one assist each in their first games with New Jersey. Graves finished the night ranked
second on the team with 24:55 TOI. Hamilton led the Devils with 25:54 TOI.
COACH’S CORNER
“He has a reputation of being a really good defensive player…His defensive intensity is really good and something you don’t have to harp on. He gets
himself to the right place a lot of times and he puts himself in a real good position to defend.” – HC Lindy Ruff on rookie forward Dawson Mercer
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Let’s not forget about another newcomer, Jonathan Bernier. The 33-year-old recorded 24 saves in his Devils debut but displayed big and timely saves
when New Jersey needed Bernier most. Keep in mind that two of Chicago’s goals were on the power play – one of which was longer than 2:00.
TONIGHT’S PLAYER TO WATCH
Expect captain Nico Hischier to fly on all cylinders tonight out on the ice, while potentially earning his first point of the season.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
Expansion teams hold a 6-8-1 record in their first game against the Devils’ franchise.
14 players on Seattle’s roster have recorded at least a point this season. Only Pittsburgh (17), Columbus (16) and Detroit (15) have more.
Jared McCann has eight points (three goals, five assists) in his last seven games, dating back to last season.
Alex Wennberg ranks seventh in the NHL with 32 faceoff wins.
With his goal against Philadelphia, Carson Soucy became the first defenseman to score a goal in franchise history. If he scores tonight, it will mark the
second time in his career, and first since Dec. 3 to 5, 2019, that he would have goals in consecutive games.
Nathan Bastian is set to play in his first game against the Devils since being selected by New Jersey in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft. Tonight will
mark the first time that a player selected in the Expansion Draft is playing against his former team.
HOT AGAINST NEW JERSEY
Colin Blackwell has five assists in his last three games against New Jersey.
Jordan Eberle has recorded four points (one goal, three assists) in his last three games against the Devils. A point tonight would give him points in four
consecutive games against New Jersey for the first time in his career.
Mark Giordano has four points (one goal, three assists) in his last four games against the Devils.
Philipp Grubauer has earned a perfect 4-0-0 record against the Devils in four career games with a .933 save percentage and a 1.75 goals-against
average.
Jared McCann has six points (two goals, four assists) in his last five games against the Devils.
Jaden Schwartz has 11 points (six goals, five assists) in 11 career games against New Jersey. The Devils are one of five teams that Schwartz has
averaged a point per game or better against (Boston, Edmonton, Florida, Toronto).

Brandon Tanev is set to play in his 300th NHL game tonight, becoming one of 34 active undrafted players to play in at least 300 games.
Washington’s Garnet Hathaway, who also went undrafted, is also expected to play in his 300th NHL game tonight.
Since making his NHL debut on April 5, 2016, only nine players have recorded more hits than Tanev’s
He currently ranks fifth among active, undrafted players in career hits.
HITTING THE MARK
The Kraken are one of two teams to have at least two players (Adam Larsson, Jeremy Lauzon, Jamie Oleksiak, Brandon Tanev) to record double-
digit hits this season, joining the New York Rangers (Barclay Goodrow, Dryden Hunt, Chris Kreider, Ryan Reaves, Jacob Trouba).
The Kraken ranked second in the NHL with 104 hits on the season, trailing only the New York Rangers (115).
The Kraken have registered five individual performances from four players (Jamie Oleksiak [2], Haydn Fleury, Adam Larsson, Brandon Tanev) in
which they have recorded at least five hits in a game, the most of any team in the NHL.
Oleksiak is tied for third in the league with 15 hits. Tanev is tied for ninth with 12.
O CAPTAIN! MY CAPTAIN!
Mark Giordano was named the Kraken’s first captain in franchise history on Oct. 11, 2021.
Prior to being selected in the 2021 NHL Expansion draft, Giordano served as the captain of the Calgary Flames for eight seasons (2013-14 to 2020-
21). He was named the 19th captain in Flames history on Sept. 20, 2013.
Jordan Eberle, Yanni Gourde, Adam Larsson and Jaden Schwartz have all been selected to be alternate captains for the Kraken this season.
Eberle served as an alternate captain in Edmonton for five seasons (2012-13 to 2016-17).
This will mark Gourde’s first NHL season as part of his team’s on-ice leadership group.
Larsson was an alternate captain in each of his last four seasons with Edmonton.
Schwartz was an alternate captain in St. Louis for three seasons (2017-18 to 2019-20).
ON DRAFT
On Seattle’s active roster, eight players were selected in the first round of the NHL Draft, six in the second round, two in the third round, three in the
fourth round and one in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh rounds.
Adam Larsson – who was selected by the Edmonton Oilers with the fourth-overall pick in the 2011 Draft – is the highest drafted player on Seattle’s
roster.
Entering play Sunday, Larsson’s 607 career games played ranks eighth among players selected in the 2011 NHL Draft and third among defensemen
taken that year, trailing only Minnesota’s Jonas Brodin (610) and New Jersey’s Dougie Hamilton (608).
Among Seattle’s active roster, only Alex Barré-Boulet, Mark Giordano, Yanni Gourde and Brandon Tanev went undrafted in the NHL Draft.
Giordano leads all active, undrafted players in both career assists (367) and points (510). His 954 games played and 143 career goals ranks second
and fourth, respectively, among active, undrafted skaters.
INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR
Seattle’s active roster is composed of skaters from five different countries: Canada (17), United States (4), Sweden (3), Finland (1) and Germany (1).
16 players on Seattle’s roster have represented their home countries in international competition.
Jordan Eberle leads the way, having played for Team Canada on eight separate occasions: at the 2009 and 2010 IIHF World Junior Championships
and at the 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2018 IIHF World Championships.
Philipp Grubauer (Germany) and Seattle prospect Alexander True (Denmark) have already been selected to represent their home countries at the
2022 Winter Olympic Games.
