Since joining HCPSS in 1994, Kim Burke has gone from paraeducator

to special educator, and now to CTE teacher. Burke believes in creating

community to engage her students. Therefore, she is incredibly active at

her school, Marriotts Ridge High School, coordinating academic inter-

vention programs, advising Educators Rising and Future Business

Leaders of America, coaching allied bowling, and more.

Spring Sports Season begins March 1, 2017 Click here for more information pertaining to eligibility, required paperwork, and concussion testing. Spring Sportsmanship Night will be held on March 9th at 7 p.m. One parent/guardian for each student athlete is expected to attend.

Attention Student Swimmers Howard County Invitational Swim Meet The Columbia Clippers are proud to sponsor the Annual Howard County Invitational Swim Meet. It will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Howard Community College and is open to all Howard County Public High School Stu-dents. You do not need to be on a year-round swim team to participate.

Consider being a team captain for your school! Come to an informational meeting on March 27th at 7pm at the Columbia Aquatics Office, located at 9450 Gerwig Lane. There is no limit to the number of team captains, and will look great when included in your college and job applications.

March 9 & 10, 2017 MRHS parent scheduling window is February 27 at 8:00 a.m. through March 6 at 3:00 p.m. Par-

ents/Guardians may login to HCPSS Connect to view and select from the available time slots. March con-

ference slots are limited; please only make an appointment if you have a concern/question with your stu-

dent’s performance. Conferences time slots will take place as follows:

Thursday, March 9 / 4:00-7:00 p.m.

SENIOR CLASS NEWS . . .

BALFOUR WILL BE HERE WEDNESDAY, 2/22, DURING MUSTANG TIME

It’s almost time to Order Graduation Merchandise! A representative from Balfour will

meet with the senior class on February 22 during Mustang Time (9:00-9:30) in the auditori-

um. Orders for caps, gowns, and other graduation merchandise will be taken during all

lunch shifts on March 1-2, 2017.

SENIOR BANNERS ON SALE NOW! Congratulate your graduating MRHS student with a personalized banner. The banners will

hang in the auditorium hallway during the month of May and will be returned to your grad-

uate after the farewell assembly. The cost is $35 and all orders will be due by March 31,

2017. Please complete the order form and send it to the front office with a check payable

to Marriotts Ridge PTSA. All profits will be donated to the PTSA. Contact Andrea Hartigan

BOOSTER 2017 SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS –

Application Deadline is February 24 at 2:30 p.m. Mustang Booster Club will award two $2000 scholarships toward future education expens-es. Scholarships honor two seniors who embody the Booster goal of “Making a Difference at the Ridge.” Any eligible senior student may apply. Complete application direc-tions/information sheets are available in the Student Services office or by click here. A completed application must be submitted to Ms. Dubbs in the Student Services office, in a sealed 9x12 envelope marked “Booster Scholarship” by 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017. Winners will be announced in May.

2017 Advanced Placement Exam Registration is now open!

2017 AP Exam Dates: May 1 – 5 and May 8 – 12 - Late testing will take place May 17 – 19. This year

MRHS AP exams will be administered at St. Michael Poplar Springs 1125 St. Michael’s Road, Mt. Airy,

Md 21771 (with the exception of world languages and late testing, which will be administered at MRHS.

Registration will take place February 27 – March 24. The registration process includes completing a

form in Naviance and returning a signed copy to Student Services prior to the deadline. Please note: NO

registration will be accepted during Spring Break. Please plan accordingly.

Fees this year are $93 per exam. This year payment or installments can be made at any time during the year

prior to the deadline by check, money order or through Online School Payments.

Online School Payments - HCPSS has contracted with Online School Payments, Inc. (OSP) to afford par-

ents/guardians the ability to pay online for school activities, including AP exams. OSP accepts credit and

debit cards (Visa or MasterCard) through a secure web browser at your convenience, 24 hours a day. OSP

does charge a small handling fee for this service.

Payments can be made for one or more exams (in “Activity”), or periodic payments at your convenience (in

“Obligations” tab). The link to OSP is on the school website or below:

Leadership U Class of 2017

Is your student looking for leadership opportunities? Does he or she want to make a difference? Consider joining the Leadership U Class of 2017! Leadership U is an exciting leadership, teambuilding, and community service opportunity for current high school sophomores. This unique, four-month program involves a week-long summer program of hands-on activities, as well as involvement in a team community service project. This program is for students with leadership potential, a desire to learn with others, and for those with an interest in the community. Come to learn more and speak to some of our grads on March 2 at Miller Library from 7-8pm. Parents and students in both 9th and 10th grade are encouraged to attend.
