Of course, I would love to spend all day downstairs at my sewing machine or cutting table but that doesn't happen very often. Is it odd to find I have lots of energy when I'm working on a quilt? Ah well, I will continue to squeeze time out of the day to dash downstairs to my current project, to get one more row of blocks sewn on. President’s Message:

How many of you have made "promises" to YOURSELF, then either forgotten all about it, or had life in general derail your plans. Well! I just realized that I had missed the newsletter deadline, which was Nov. 7th! I had decided LAST month to be "on the ball" for Julie, but once again my "plans" fell by the wayside. I'm pretty sure that most of the guild members are kind and giving folks, so I think it's pretty easy to let others lead us off our "beaten path". A dry-erase board is also easy to check or cross off those tasks I've completed, which is something I REALLY enjoy doing! Of course, I would love to spend all day downstairs at my sewing machine or cutting table but that doesn't happen very often. Is it odd to find I have lots of energy when I'm working on a quilt? Community Outreach Report Requests for comfort quilts are to be made to Pat Golem at 519-506-2434 or at [email protected]. Over the past month there have been 5 comfort quilts given out. Keep in mind that comfort quilts are still available during this time.

Nine nursing covers were donated to the GROW Rooted in love Maternity Home. Another 12 covers were given to the Hanover Pregnancy Centre. As well, 59 placemats were donated to the Meals on Wheels program. Watch for the picture of this donation being made during the Outreach report at the meeting.

For the remainder of the year, the blocks introduced in the Sept. and Oct. newsletters will be worked on.

The guild has been approached by the Bruce County Library to make masks to be distributed as needed when people enter the library without one. You can use your favourite pattern as long as it uses 2 or 3 layers of cotton fabric. When completed, the masks can be dropped off at any Bruce County Library.

Last week, Adele, on behalf of the Guild, presented Tonie and Rosemary with a small token of our

appreciation for the excellent leadership they provided us during their 2 years as co-presidents. In the

past, outgoing presidents have been acknowledged and thanked at our June meeting, but Covid-19

stopped us from doing so this year. Donations were collected at the January and February meetings.

Rosemary and Tonie were given a Leah Day Perpetual calendar of 365 Free Motion designs and

some money to get themselves a quilting “treat”.

Rosemary and Tonie were our first Guild Co-Presidents and they “pioneered” a new leadership for

us, showing us how well it can work. Many thanks to you both!

Quilt Show 2022

For those who like to plan ahead, mark your calendar for Friday, May 27th and Saturday, May 28th, 2022 for the New Millennium 4th Quilt Show. Helen Gutscher and Cheryl Russwurm look forward to co-chairing this supreme event. The guild has had 3 very successful shows and lots of members with experience to help along the way. Please give some thought (as a member) what role you would like to take on. At this point, we aren’t looking for any commitments until 2021 but if you want to be the first one to sign up for a committee, let us know your wishes. Lists will come in 2021.

PROGRAM COMMITTEE CALENDAR 2020

November 17, 2020

We are so excited to announce our November Speaker is Kathy Wylie, and she is LIVE! Kathy

will present her lecture “Beauty is All Around”.

Beauty really is all around us and provides a constant source of inspiration. From wreaths to clamshells, papercut-appliqué snowflakes to medallions, you’ll see it all! This lecture focuses on designs that are circular or radiating in nature. Looking at Kathy’s quilts from the past 25 years, you will discover her ongoing fascination working with shapes that are round. It is sure to be an interesting topic and we can ask Kathy questions after her presentation.

The Quilts of Illusion Challenge Quilts PowerPoint will also be featured at our November meeting. It will be a jam-

packed night, so cozy up in your favourite chair and enjoy the evening.

December 2020 Program committee will present a PowerPoint Presentation entitled--“Celebrate 2020: a year of

COVID QUILTING PROJECTS”.

We are asking ALL members to submit up to THREE projects they have worked on during the past year. You can send

in multiple photos of your work, but we ask that you limit it to three items. Two talented members, Joanne Wilhelm and

Cheryl Russwurm, will put your photos and information together into a fun-filled Virtual SHOW AND SHARE.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO TALK! We will read your info, just send us the photos and write-ups. Please include a short

description of the quilt or project, such as pattern name, size, and any other pertinent info. This info would be what you

would share if you were entering your work in the Quilt Show. Please do not forget to include YOUR name, who quilted

it, etc.

MEMBERS whose last names start with A to M send your photos and write ups to Joanne Wilhelm

[email protected]

MEMBERS whose last names start with N to Z send your photos and write-ups to Cheryl Russwurm

[email protected]

Members need to send good-quality photos that are clear and bright to these ladies by Monday, November 16, 2020.

This is a FIRM DEADLINE. So, while the weather is still decent, get some great shots of those quilts hanging from your

clothesline, fence or patio! If you are unable to take your own photos, the PROGRAM GALS can help. Just contact

them, and they will come to your house and take some outdoor photos, properly social distancing.

Also, at our LAST 2020 Meeting, we may have some surprise entertainment as well.

JANUARY 19, 2021

Sharon Fisher, owner of Gardening Mum Quilts, will present a Zoom trunk show entitled “My Quilting Adventure Thus

Far”, with Q&A following the presentation.

Sharon took her first quilt class in the basement of a house over 30 years ago. Being a single

mom of three small children and embarking on a new career, this first quilt took about ten

years to complete. Constantly challenging herself with new ideas and techniques, Sharon has

taken classes at quilt shops both in Canada and the United States. Having had the opportunity

to learn from Lisa Bongean, Kim Diehl, Mary Elizabeth Kinch, Sue Spargo and Judy Eckhardt

to name a few, Sharon's love for texture, wool appliqué and hand stitching evolved.

Combining her love of texture and colour with traditional, primitive and whimsical themes,

Sharon uses embellishments to enrich basic designs. During this process, she has created a

niche for herself as a teacher in the true traditional style of quilting by sharing her skills and

passions with other beloved quilters.

February 16, 2021

Melissa Marginet, a Manitoba native, has been

inspired by a wonderful grandmother, who kick-

started her creative life. Melisa is an author,

designer, teacher and Janome ambassador. She

loves to teach and share her knowledge and

inspire others. Melissa’s lecture and Trunk show

is entitled “Get your Motor Running. “

Learn how to spark creativity in yourself or in your guild with challenges that will have everyone thinking outside the

box. This trunk show has more ideas than you will know what to do with to get everyone not only learning new

techniques but building their quilting and creative confidence.

We are happy to announce that Melissa will be teaching a ZOOM machine-quilting class at the end of February 2021.

See details in this newsletter.

March 16, 2021

Mary Pal will present a Zoom lecture and Q&A on “One Quilter’s Journey”.

How does a traditional quilter become a “textile artist”? My personal story of my progression with

textiles from my early traditional quilts to my contemporary work today, along with a look at the

works of the fiber artists who inspire me, and the surprising ways in which events in our

everyday lives can provide meaning to your own work and inspiration for new directions. If you

were ever looking for vindication for all the workshops you’ve taken, here it is. Each presentation

includes a trunk show of several of my art quilts to display.

Mary Pal is a Canadian fibre artist best known for her cheesecloth portraits. Her work has been

exhibited internationally, purchased for private and museum collections throughout North

America, as well as published in numerous books and magazines and featured on television.

For over 40 years she has enjoyed teaching, and for the past decade sharing her passion for

textile art with students all over the world. A Juried Artist member and former Board member of

Studio Art Quilt Associates, she is an enthusiastic promoter of the fibre art movement.

April 20, 2021 Rose Parr

Rose Parr lives in Guelph with her husband David. Their claim to fame is having run an

illegal daycare operation when they had four children under the age of four. Now that's

efficient!

Rose has been sewing for 40 years, quilting for 30, and personal training for more than 15.

She holds certifications in:

• Ergonomics

• Holistic Nutrition

• Arthritis Pain Management

• Home Economics

• Personal Training

Rose enjoys speaking to quilt guilds both virtually and in-person. She is a professional longarm quilter and a regular

contributor to Canadian Quilter magazine. Her book “Sew Healthy & Happy, Smart Ergonomics, Stretches & More for

Makers" is now available to pre-order from Amazon.

Rose’s lecture title is Sew Smart – The Ergonomics of Healthy Quilting. She has made it her mission to work at staying

pain-free while continuing to sew for as long as possible. She has combined her studies in home economics with her

certifications in ergonomics, fitness, wellness, and nutrition to teach others how to sew smarter, healthier, and happier.

Quilting shouldn’t be a pain in the neck! This presentation will make sure you have the right posture, techniques, and

stretches when putting in those dedicated hours on your next project.

These samples will be a great reference for you when deciding how to quilt your next quilt.
