It should be noted that not all the views of residents could be reconciled, indeed it is notuncommon for neighbours to have differing views on how on-street parking should bemanaged. The Parking Review Group have considered all the comments and the DistrictCouncil's response to your comments is as follows;

The District Council's proposals for the Montreal Park area are to allay concerns overparking displacement from other parts of the town.

The proposals have been drawn up and adapted to fit the views of the ResidentsAssociation.

RecommendationsWith these views in mind, the Parking Review Group's recommendation to the SevenoaksJoint Transportation Board and to the Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet is that;

Comments and objections from the consultation are noted and the proposals forMontreal Park area are agreed in line with the views expressed by the Montreal ParkResidents Association during the consultation period:

ApprovalsThe Joint Transportation Board met on 12thDecember 2007 and considered therecommendations of the Parking Review Group. The Board resolved that the proposedtraffic regulation order be made.

The District Council's Cabinet met on 20thDecember 2007 to consider the implementation ofthe proposals and it was resolved that the proposals be introduced in line with the ParkingReview Group's recommendations, save for the level of charges for on-street parking, whichwas carried over to the Cabinet meeting of 1ih January 2008, where this issue was resolvedin line with the recommendations.

What happens next?We will be circulating the finalised version of the parking arrangements for your area in thenext few weeks for your information.

Work to introduce the proposals is expected to start in April, with the planned start of newrestrictions following the May Day Bank Holiday (though this may be subject to change).

When the restrictions are introduced there will be a short 'grace period' of approximately aweek where vehicles parked in contravention of the new restrictions would be issued withwarnings rather than fixed penalty notices.

Details of all the proposals will soon be available on the District Council's website.

How do I get a parking permit?Residents in the new permit parking areas will be invited to apply for parking permits beforethe new restrictions start.

Commuters and non-residents will also be given the opportunity to apply for permits, thoughresidents will be given preference.

Yours faithfully,

Senior Engineer, Traffic & Parking
