April has been a very exciting timeof the year for my family and me; notonly because our hometown team theTampa Bay Rays kick off their season, but also because for the second year in arow the Rays have reached out to ourcompany for a “visibility campaign”partnership. Last year, amongst our fivemagazines, we had a direct mail circula-tion of over 85,000 households in theBay area and when the Rays found outwe added New Tampa to our distribu-tion, bringing our monthly total to over

110,000 and making us the largest cir-culation of community magazines in thestate of Florida, they were excited towork out another deal with us. Our on-line readership has blown up in the pastyear as well, consistently ranging be-tween 40 and 50,000 individual readersand well over half a million page views!Enough about why the Rays partneredwith us, let’s get into what you reallycare about, and that’s how you canscore some free Rays game tickets!FREE TICKETS FOR YOU!

Crunch Fitness Comes toNew Tampa!

April 1st was a huge celebration andthe official ribbon cutting of thenewest Crunch Fitness location toopen at 15313 Amberly Drive inTampa Palms. A full renovation hastaken place at this location, with over$750,000 worth of brand new equip-ment. Upon entering, the most com-mon response from anyone walkingthrough the door is, " I can't believehow big the facility is and it's all brandnew!" Members are also raving aboutthe diversified equipment, cleanliness, nationally certified group fitness in-structors and personal trainers, friendlyno pressure staff and crunchtastic perksdiscounts. It is redefining the meaningof a true fitness family in the gym in-dustry. The rules are simple at the newlyopened Crunch fitness center in TampaPalms, where essentially everythingboils down to one key thing — “nojudgments,” said Charles Zeine, Gen-eral Manager of the new location."Our customer is the focus. You are

our priority." “We want everyone to feel comfortablehere, because at the end of the day, ifyou feel comfortable you’re going tomeet your goals,” said Chad Hogue,Area Supervisor. That holds true forboth the seasoned athlete and for theperson who has never set foot in a gymbefore. “We want everyone to come in and seewhat we’re doing for the community,”Hogue said. “Number one, we want tobe known as a place anyone can cometo. Number two, we want you to be avendor in our club, whether you’re alocal business, chiropractor or thera-pist. For more information on ourHealth and Wellness Corporate Pro-gram, please contact Jaci Petrock at813-838-6526 or via email,[email protected]. As the “Crunch Philosophy” notes:“There is no one way. What we are is adiverse community; what we have is aculture of fun; what there is, is roomfor everyone; all kinds of people withall kinds of goals who have chosen toreach them with us.”The full-service gym also offers circuittraining, cardiovascular equipment, free weights, plate- loaded equipmentand locker rooms with showers. Child-care is also available, as well as the serv-ices of nationally certified personaltrainers. What Hogue emphasizes, along withPetrock, Corporate Sales and Market-ing Director, is the family atmosphereat Crunch and the focus on “no judg-ments.” Indeed, a sign centrally placed

expounds onthe “CrunchPhilosophy,”noting suchthings as en-couragement,entertainment,empowermentand diversity.“There are nojudgments here— no toomuch or notenough, noglares of disap-proval,” the

sign reads. “Here we keep open minds. We are nurturers.”The Tampa Palms site is ideal forCrunch, given that there was a belovedgym in business there before. “We’reseeing a lot of previous members com-ing back,” Zeine said. “They’re happyto have a gym back and we're happy tobe the ones to be able to give that backto them.”Crunch Fitness Tampa Palms is lo-cated at 15313 Amberly Drive inTampa Palms and is open 5am-11pm Monday-Thursday, 5am-10pm Friday and 8am-7pmSaturday and Sunday. It’s all about girl power and sis-terhood for the Citrus Park Rockies, the first ever all girls t-ball team atCitrus Park. Making history, this allgirls team has been working hard toprove that their team has what ittakes to compete with co-ed and all-boys teams in the league.

Ranging in age from 5 – 7 yearsold, these girls sure have heart andprove that girls can play ball too! Itwas the vision of mother DanielleDiaz and other parents in the areathat brought this team to life. Want-ing to give their daughters the samebonding experience that many oftheir sons got to experience by play-ing on an all-boys team, these par-ents banded together to start anall-girls team. “We started the CitrusPark Rockies with the hopes of hav-ing these girls grow together as ateam throughout the years, givingthem the opportunity to form thatcamaraderie that all- boys teams getto experience,” says Danielle.

“We want our daughters to growup and be well-rounded and know alldifferent types of sports and not justballet and gymnastics. Being a part ofa team is a completely different expe-rience,” adds one mom.

For many of these girls, this istheir first time playing a team sport, but you would never be able to tell –the way they work together as a teamis really impressive and they have al-ready began to show such immenseprogress.

On the other hand, there arequite a few girls on the team whohave been around the ball field their

entire lives and have already played afew seasons on a coed team. Theyhave graciously welcomed the newgirls and made them feel right athome on the field. “Half of the girlshave older brothers so they are accus-tomed to being at the park and manyhave played on other coed teams,”says Danielle. “Now, it’s their turn toshine!”

After talking to many of thegirls, it was clear to see that theywere really happy with the opportu-nity. Comments ranged from “It’sreally fun” and “It’s better becausewe get to play with all girls and noboys,” to “We get to meet newfriends and play with friends fromschool.”

Joining a team is a great way for

young girls to build their confidence, and when it comes to the ColoradoRockies they are all about positive re-inforcement and proving that girls

are just as good as boys when itcomes to playing ball! “The coachesare so good with them,” says onemom. “The reinforcement and posi-tivity is amazing. They are all aboutencouragement.”

Danielle adds, “It’s important toteach these girls from a young agethe importance of teamwork and forthem to get out there and playagainst the boys to help build theirconfidence and egos.”

With purple tie-dye socks, andcan-do attitudes, the Colorado Rock-ies are here to prove that this season,it’s all about the girls! Watch out, be-cause they’re here to win!

By next fall the Citrus ParkRockies are planning to expand theall girls t-ball and softball programand are looking for girls ages 6 to16 to play.

nice edition to the office because thereis a subset of patients that would pre-fer a female physician, so now we offerthat as well to better serve the needsof our patients,” says Dr. Landon.

I can tell you, from my own per-sonal experience, that Dr. Landon andhis staff truly are amazing. From dayone, his staff went above and beyondto provide me with a personalized ex-perience and did a great job of makingme feel comfortable and relaxed. From my first consultation, where thestaff was very thorough and actuallylistened to what I had to say, to thenight of the operation where Dr. Lan-don called me at home to see how Iwas doing, to the months followingthe operation, where Dr. Landon andhis staff did an excellent job makingsure everything progressed and healedright, Landon Plastic Surgery reallyhas set the bar with how patientsshould be treated.

“We do take care of our patientsand I do think we offer that extra levelof service,” says Cheryl. “I almostthink we nurture patients. We have anamazing, amazing staff. They are alltruly wonderful. We really care aboutour patients and our patients knowthat. They almost feel part a part ofthe family.”

World-Class Technology Using the newest, most innova-

tive technology, Dr. Landon’s 3Dbreast imaging machine allows pa-tients to see exactly what their im-plants are going to look like before thesurgery, and gives them the opportu-nity to “try out” different sizes to seewhat will look best on their body andwhat size will give them the desiredoutcome that they hope to achieve.

Dr. Landon says, “We offer pa-tients the ability to take a virtual roadtrip with different size implants to seehow the implants are going to look ontheir body. This has really done a great

job of alleviating the anxiety.” The newest in patient-centered

advancements, Landon Plastic Sur-gery has recently introduced TouchMD to their practice. Interactive soft-ware for patient education, TouchMD, as like the 3D breast-imagingmachine, gives patients the opportu-nity to experience the closest thingthey can to having surgery, before theactual surgery. By uploading a pictureof the patient’s target area to the soft-ware, Dr. Landon is able to show hispatients where the incisions are goingto be made, as well as the projectedoutcome as to what that area willlook like post-surgery.

“This gives patients a sense of fa-miliarity, making them feel comfort-able about their decision,” says Dr.Landon. “It is a great teaching tool, and my patients end up leaving with asolid education of what we hope toaccomplish surgically, as well as anenhanced piece of mind in knowingthey know what to expect before, during and after the surgery; helpingtheir decision to choose our office aneasy one.”

When asked his favorite partabout what he does, Dr. Landonreplied, “being able to take body im-ages that people find distasteful oraging and give them a positive bodyimage change. People have a widerange of expectations and if you are re-ally going to be successful you have tolisten to your patients and deliver whatthey want. I think that is what reallysets up apart. I look at every personthat comes in here as family and givethem the same treatment as I would ifit were my mother or my daughter.

For added patient convenience,in addition to their office in Trinity,Landon Plastic Surgery also has anoffice located behind Memorial Hos-pital at 403 S. Habana Ave. inTampa. For more info on the SouthTampa office please call (813) 404-

The Fresh Market at Wiregrass Offers Fun and Goods for Everyone! By Kim Thomas

The Fresh Market that comes toWiregrass Mall every first and thirdSaturday is a great way to spend yourmorning! I recently visited and can’twait to go back, but I have a few tips.Take some kind of tote bag, or evenbetter a rolling cooler! I found somany great items at the Fresh Marketthat I found myself envious of theyoung moms with strollers where theycould stash their goods under thebaby. Next time, I’m leaving thenotepad and camera at home, and I’mstocking up on the goods!

The beautiful weather, fresh airand fun shopping are reason enoughto go to the Fresh Market at WiregrassMall, but you’ll also love meeting thehundreds of vendors. There are somany offerings and I truly enjoyedgetting to meet so many different peo-ple with their own stories to tell. From farmers who are carrying on afamily legacy and entrepreneurs whoare marketing new products on theweekends while they work their otherjobs during the weekdays, to artists,

bakers and pet-lovers, you’ll meetwonderful people.

There is stand after stand of beau-tiful locally grown vegetables andfruits. They will give you plastic bags ifyou don’t have a tote, but if you’relike me, you’ll want to buy more thanyou‘ll want to carry. I couldn’t resistthe heirloom veggies offered fromSmall Town Farms – beautiful blackand chocolate red bell peppers, rain-bow carrots, gorgeous vine-ripenedPita Boy tomatoes, and white zucchini– that were to make up a few fabulousmeals at the Thomas house! I thought

I was done buying vegetables, butthen I passed by the Live Oak Organ-ics stand and bought the last bag ofbaby spinach, plus some turnips andone of my favorite snacks, sugar snappeas, which were so tender, juicy andsweet – the best I’ve ever tasted! Thefresh-picked strawberries were abun-dant, with more than one place to getthem, but I picked mine up at theParke Family Hydro Farms’ stand –they were delicious in my homemadestrawberry lemonade!

It smells good at the Fresh Mar-ket, too. Bring an appetite because

there are fantastic offerings fromchocolates to artisan sausages on freshrolls (The Sausage Factory) and hand-crafted popsicles at Whatever Pops(mine was Earl Grey Tea, Lavenderand Lemon – so refreshing!), and somuch more! The pulled pork sand-wiches at The Hogfather BBQ standlooked delicious! For one dollar only,my taste buds took a trip to Paris witha chocolate truffle made by Richard atCow Paddy Irish Fudge. Richard sayshe has customers who say they trulyhaven’t tasted better, not even in Paris. My family has become spoiled by my

love of handmade soaps and I washappy to find a great source at theSwanson Soapworks stand. My burly, bearded son who is welder stopped bythe house and snagged a delicioussmelling soap for himself and his fi-ancé. It made me laugh to see him in-hale the lovely fragrance and wow, what an easy way to make my grownboy feel pampered!

Pet-lovers will love the FreshMarket’s pet-friendly atmosphere –friendly, leashed dogs are welcome –and the great products for healthypets. Hearing the story behind Dog-

gone Good Goodies are so healthyand dog-gone good that they turnmild-mannered dogs into cookiesmonsters!

There is so much more, fromhomemade whoopie pies, fresh bakedgoods, free range eggs and roastingchickens, seafood, even plants, orchidsand cut flowers. There truly is toomuch to name, so just hop in your caron the first and third Saturday andcheck it out. Bring the whole family.Little ones can ride on the train andteens can hit the stores! It’s what I calla win-win.
