November is a big month for our congregation. On the first Sunday of the

month we will be celebrating All Saints Day by remembering those who have died

and now are in God’s eternal presence. Then November 10th, we will celebrate

Faith Promise Sunday and learn about the vital missions our church is part of for

those recovering from addiction in our community. Then, it will be time to turn our

attention for Thanksgiving.

All Saints Day holds a special place for me this year. This year our family has

loss my grandmother Velma, my husband’s grandfather Barry, and my great aunt

Eskie. I look forward to remembering them. Whether your year has been like ours,

with loved ones passing, or whether you use the day to remember those who died

years ago, I welcome you to join us as we light candles and speak their names. It will

be a Sunday of reflecting on the legacy of those who came before us, and

recognizing the responsibility we hold for generations to come.

Then, November 10th, we will look at the transformation happening in our

own community. Faith Promise Sunday is a Sunday each year that we showcase one

of the many missions we support. This year, we will be focusing on our work in the

community helping people recover from addiction and substance abuse. Our church

does a lot! As part of the Faith Response Network, an interdenominational church

partnership, we are one of many churches who host monthly recovery worship

services. In each of these services, a person in recovery shares their testimony of

God’s work in their life. We also are part of a weekly Bible Study at the Dearborn

Jail. Our special speaker will be from Oxford House, a new recovery home in our

county. Sometimes the world can seem like everything is getting worse and worse. I

hope through this service you can get a glimpse of how God is working through us

to make our community and world better.

We will finish the month focusing on gratitude just in time for Thanksgiving. There is so much to be thankful for in our lives. I hope these last couple worship services in November will be ones that help us reflect on God’s blessings over this year and center us in gratitude as we head into the Advent and Christmas season.

UMW Update

Okay, so I have been sitting here for over an hour, pencil in hand, waiting for an inspira-tion. A thought, an idea, a story, a scripture, an inspiration! "I Got Nothing!" As I look outside I am overwhelmed by this beautiful day. The sun is shining, the temperature

is perfect, the leaves are displaying the beautiful colors of Fall. A pretty much perfect day. And here I am stressing over what to say?? Wow, what else is there to say except Thank you God for your many blessings!! Thank you God for my family, my friends, my church and for this beautiful Fall day. I think God is saying don't stress Nancy, ENJOY . -- Thank you God for being there for all of us! We had a great UMW meeting last week with Barbara Branigan and Emmy as hostesses. It is always a joy to come together in fellowship! Our next meeting will be November 14.. Lois and Dorothy will be in charge. I hope you will be able to come!!

Let's all try to stress less and ENJOY more of the beauty and love around us! Nancy

Finance Committee notes

The Finance committee met on October 16th with 6 in attendance. The general Fund began September with $6,235.23. There were deposits of $10,383.00 and expenses of $8,674.59, leaving an ending balance of $7,939.09. For the year to date, the average weekly offering was $2,293.83 which is below the weekly budget average needed of $2399 for a weekly deficit of $105.19. The Special Account Fund began the month with a balance of $16,472.90. There were deposits of $812.50 and withdrawals of $296.54 leaving a balance of $16,988.86. At the end of September, the Capital Improvement Fund balance was $5,083.20 and the Faith Promise Fund was $4,058.34. After the monthly treasure report was approved, it was announced that Jim Kittle has vol-unteered to investigate and re-open the church safe deposit box at Civista. There was a discus-sion that when a monetary gift is given to the church, and it is not a tithe, that it would not be part of the monthly apportionments. It is the judgement of the committee that the giver intends for the money to stay with Tanner Valley.

Last item discussed was the 2020 TVUMC budget. Billie S. provided a budget draft with the estimated expenses needed to complete thie year. The committee checked each line item, however were unable to finalize the budget until the next year amounts for Ministerial Sup-port are determined. These numbers should be available in November
