Agriculture & Natural Resource J.D. Ragland-CEA “Making History...The 2015 Randall County Stock Show was held in January at the new facility and permanent home, with new livestock pens and show ring. Largest number of entries even in history of the Randall County Stock Show with 364. “ Family & Consumer Sciences Amy E. Wagner-CEA “In January, a program was offered for 35 senior students in the AmericCorp program on preparing a healthy plate, preparing budget friendly buy healthy meal, and provided cooking demonstrations for the students.” Horticulture Liz Moore-M.S. “In a world where trendy words like “hashtag” are added to the dictionary every year, it is hard to keep up with new terminology. In the Horticulture world, “Waterwise” is one such example. Water wise refers to plants that thrive in low water conditions once established. The summer of 2011 showed us what plants are truly waterwise and we have a list of champion survivors to share. No wonder 2011 felt so miserable. Amarillo experienced 50 days over 100 degrees. Not only was it HOT, but it was dry.” Urban Outreach Shannon Walsh-Urban programs “The Rate of fatal crashes among alcohol-involved drivers between 16-20 years old is ore that twice the rate for alcohol-involved drivers 21and older. In partnership with the “Watch UR BAC” program and the Texas Department of Public Safety, we brought hands on learning to Happy, Canyon and Randall High Schools.”

Recommended Reading Some of you may know me, many won’t. I grew up in Plainview, and during my life I’ve lived in most of the major cities in Texas, and a few in California. My birth certificate would suggest that I’m at retirement age, but that’s a fairly foreign concept to me, since my parents never did. They loved to work and continued to do so until they were too ill to continue. My bookkeeping business is a huge blessing. I stay busy with wonderful clients who are equally divided between California and the Texas Panhandle, so travelling between the two states makes my life interesting. Volunteer work and my mission work in Belize, Central America, add other dimensions to my life. Life is good! Recently a book was recommended to me: “Half Time: Changing Your Game Plan from Success to Significance,” by Bob Buford. The author believes the second half of your life can be better than the first. I’m reading it now for the title alone, because it seems so relevant to anyone my age. I hope you’ll read it with me, and find the secrets contained within its pages. This is a big world, and I want to live a big life in it. Every day can add another blessing, every experience can broaden my world, and every encounter can widen my world view and add perspective for my place within it. The idea of finish-ing strong is appealing to most of us, to know that we made a difference, that we were significant. I can’t wait to read it word for word. I would love to receive your feedback or comments on the book by email. Whatever you do, do it with all your heart.
