The Greater Westerly-Pawcatuck Area
Chamber of Commerce’s second annual
Westerly-Pawcatuck Area Restaurant Week
will launch on Sunday, October 2nd and will
run through Sunday October 9th for nine
days, 17+ restaurants will offer a three-
course price fixed menu of $15 for lunch
and $25 for dinner. Each restaurant offers it
own unique menu. The program is designed
to make dining out locally even more
attractive and affordable. Restaurants give
new and existing patrons the chance to
experience their cuisine, décor and service at
discounted prices, with a goal of inspiring
them to dine out year round.
There are no tickets, coupons or passes
required. Simply go on line to
www.westerlychamber.org to have your
own personal guide to all things gastronomic
during Restaurant Week. Visitors to the
website will be able to preview the
participating restaurants and their menus,
along with recipes and event listings.
Chamber President Michelle Pendola hopes
to engage more young professionals in
community service, and provide a forum for
effective networking. After having
participated in a networking program in
Concord, NH, Michelle persuaded The
Chamber leadership to institute a similar
program here in Westerly. YP (Young
Professional) groups are sweeping the
nation, and most are affiliated with their
local chambers of commerce.
Michelle held the first organizational
meeting on September 20 at Dylan’s and
more than a dozen interested people
attended. Another 10 people had expressed
interest in being involved but were unable to
attend. It is expected that the YP group will
have its own leadership (officers, treasurer,
etc) and that membership will be open to all,

Federal research shows that while all
families increase their expenditures on home
heating fuel during the winter, low-income
families offset this cost by decreasing food
purchases. In response, Buckley Heating &
Cooling and Belmont Market are partnering
in a new “Heat and Eat” Campaign to
benefit the Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale
and increase awareness of its efforts to
create hunger-free communities. The
campaign will award a minimum of 25 new
