In keeping with the Jubilee theme, theBoardandCommittee members decorated the room with the Union Jack, bunting, and two arches adorned with flowers. The decorations were quintessentially British. One member, Donna McLennan, embroidered a silhouette of the Queen, which she designed. It was used as a decoration on the serving tables. We took photos of members under the floral arches for our scrapbooks. Linda Peterson, British Connection President, said the group wanted to join in the Jubilee celebrations. “We had a right, jolly old time. Even though we are across the pond, we are proud of our heritage and especially wanted to celebrate with our compatriots the world over. This is only the second time in Britain’s thousand-year history that a British monarch has celebrated sixty years on the throne.” While munching on finger sandwiches and drinking tea, the British Connection members watched the military muster at Windsor Castle in which all British Connection Celebrates Diamond Jubilee Members take part in international celebration honoring Her Majesty e Queen with afternoon tea, cake and champagne. Community Foundation Awards Ceramic Club

The Community Foundation of Greater Sun City recently awarded $1,550.00 to the Sun City Ceramic Club. These funds, available thru the Carlyle and Elizabeth Stieler Grant, provided the equipment to support the installation of a new and proper kiln ventilation system. This system, installed by Excalibur Kiln and Rob’s Kiln Service Company of Seminole, FL, has many benefits including removing harmful gases being discharged from the firing process as well as increasing the life of the heating coils and improving the coloration of the pieces being fired. The funds provided from the Grant and additional monies from the club budget with the Community Association enabled this project to reach its completion with a successful conclusion. This is evident in the picture of the Club Board in the Kiln Room from left to right Monica McPhillips, 2nd VP, Nan Burgett, Treasurer, Kathy Boydston, 1st VP, Elsie Diel, Secretary, Carol Cook, President. A heartfelt thanks to all involved.

Ongoing Generosity of The Community Foundation of Greater Sun City Center

The Community Foundation of Greater Sun City Center has awarded a 10,000 grant to The United Methodist Church of Sun City Center for ongoing funding of Project Tooth, a ministry reaching out to children in local schools in need of dental care. Last year, 1,200 children received education in dental hygiene and vouchers for dental treatment at Sun Coast Dental Centers. Project Tooth plans for 2012-13 includes increasing the children served to 1,500 and supporting the “A Smile Every Mile” dental bus at the Good Samaritan Mission Back-To-School event. A student who had suffered dental pain for months stated, “You have saved my life.” Once again, members of the Community Foundation have united with generous spirit to make a difference in Sun City Center and South Hillsborough County. Project Tooth produces healthy, happy smiles.
