BEST IN SHOW When I was Ann Sawkins This work stood out to me. It made me think about our connection to the environment and childhood memories. It is also quirky and a bit different.

SECOND BEST IN SHOW Potato Pie Belinda Ingram This work is fresh and the composition is fantastic – the pota-toes are tumbling out of the basket. I also enjoyed the colours of this painting.

TEXTILE ART A SUCCESS IN QAS GALLERYTEXTILE ART A SUCCESS IN QAS GALLERY TTHE ACT Textile Arts Association have just bumped out after a very successful exhibition and Bazaar at the Queanbeyan Arts Society. It was a perfect venue for the display of individual art works by the members. Many of our artists made work during the COVID lockdown responding to the title 'Textiles with a Twist‘'Textiles with a Twist‘. The work encompassed crafts such as embroidery, fashion, dyeing, felting and work with paper and wool. The opening by the President Carol Cooke President Carol Cooke reflected on the title of the Exhibition. She thought about yarn, a textile fibre. Her simple observation was that it was made with a twist. The spinning gives the yarn its ply and therefore its strength. These works of art started with this title in mind but she felt the title re-flected the members as much as the work. Because they had proven to be strong and resilient women. The distractions of COVID did not stop the members making beautiful works but also making sure this exhibition happened. It is hoped that a long term relationship with the QAS will be formed with more exhibitions and market days to come. Thanks you to all the QAS team who helped and to all the people who came to visit and made such votive comments about the work. CCONGRATULATIONS to the ONGRATULATIONS to the ACT TEXTILE ARTS ASSOCIATION ACT TEXTILE ARTS ASSOCIATION for presenting such a for presenting such a professional Art Exhibition and Bazaar in the QAS Gallery last month. The art was so exciting with media different to our usual QAS artworks in our Gallery. I am proud the Society showed great initiative to welcome another art-form to be exhibited at the QAS Gallery! It was a good a idea to have the QAS Miniatures / Small Exhibition in the two front rooms at the same time. This Exhibition saw 150 works hung and was full of quality - plus the sales have been good. It is pleasing to see the number of art sales even with the present lockdown. Well done to all. For those members who are on facebook etc , facebook etc , please advertise all our Exhibitions. It helps spread our Art Society! Thanks to all members who supported the QPRC Exhibition.

QAS MEMBER IN EUROBODALLA RIVER ART FESTIVALQAS MEMBER IN EUROBODALLA RIVER ART FESTIVAL

TTHE Eurobodalla River of Art Festival ran for two weeks and provided artists with more than 100 venues from Durras to Bermagui to exhibit their artwork and to share their passion and creativity with locals and tourists. Many of the venues combined music, food and creative arts to provide a totally immersive experience. QAS and CABBI member Andrew Smith Andrew Smith was invited to paint onsite at the Bodalla Dairy Shed as part of the festivi-ties. The organisers of this event were the Nature Coast Marine Group. The theme was promoting the protection and understanding of the coastal environment. Andrew admits this was challenging, especially when he was asked by the organiser to paint an underwater subject. After some research, Andrew decided to paint the endangered Weedy Sea Dragon using his ―Sculpting with Paint‖ techniques. Applying thick textured paint with a variety of tools including sea weed, Andrew entertained onlookers throughout the day. A number of local musicians, including Sacred Cow Sacred Cow played folk music and the Bodalla Dairy ice cream artisans unveiled their new marine environment inspired ice cream flavour, Kelp and Finger Lime - a must try flavour combination. Other CABBI all weather artists completed water colour, Lino-cut prints and acrylic paintings at the Bodalla Dairy shed. CABBI also had its Mogo Gallery open and a pop up gallery in Batemans Bay and many of its members opened up their studios. All up the River of Art was a great success and allowed artists to emerge from their Covid lockdown and display their new artwork.

TTHE QAS committee will be considering doing a full new coverage of the Gallery floors. The present vinyl tiles have been down since the late 60‘s and are looking on the used side. Members are asked to forward any suggestions of what type of floor and colour would be a good idea. Please remember our walls are presently white but a different colour (cream etc) that would complement a new floor covering would be considered. Perhaps the present concrete floors could be sanded and polished. Is there any professional advice the Society could get?
