We started out by painting a large sheet of paper, covering up all of the white but being careful to not mix colors. After it dried, we then used our non-traditional items, including Q-Tips, paper towel rolls, and Styrofoam, to create lines and images in black paint. I think the results of our exploration and play are absolutely stunning! These paintings are truly Art with a capital “A” It is this kind of free creative expression that Pablo Picasso was trying to do and Jackson Pollock succeeded in doing with his action paintings. Every one of them is worth framing and should be hung proudly on a wall! If you have a chance in the next two weeks, please stop by the hallway outside the Primary Office and Library and look at EE4’s amazing Art! PRIMARY PRODUCTION

ISHCMC Health Centre News February 2015

Greetings from ISHCMC Health Center ! This is a brief reminder of some issues

that we in the clinic feel are important for the health of all ISHCMC students.

If you have any questions, please email us on [email protected]

Keep on Drinking!! We have noticed many students coming to school without their water bottles. Remember that dehydration can affect focus and memory; children should drink

at least 1 litre/day. We are also a CUP FREE school, reducing our plastic cup usage to help the environment.

Don‛t forget those bottles!

Medicines in school Our school does not allow any child to have medicines in their bag as this is

unsafe for many reasons. All medicine should be taken to the clinic and a form filled out by parent, or if you

can‛t visit clinic, you should call us to inform on the phone. Thank you!

Our Fever Policy Please remember that if your child has a

temperature of 37.7c or over, they should not come to school the next day. Students

should return to school only when they have been below 37.7c for 24hrs to prevent the spread of infection to other students. If

your child has taken medicine to reduce the fever, (paracetemol, Panadol, ibuprofen,

Ameflu) they still should not come to school.

Why is Sleep SO Important? The importance of sleep for our bodies is now widely recognised: lack of sleep reduces concentration, memory and memory – it leads to bad moods and lack of motivation. Please ensure your child is getting the sleep they need – it will benefit their study and results

2-4yrs : 11-12hrs a day 5-12yrs : 10 hrs a day

13- adult – 9-10 hrs a day

Vaccination and Medical Exam Reminders Please keep an eye out for these reminders in your child‛s school bag. Please bring them back to the

clinic or send via email when you have completed them. Thank you so much

world scholars cupOn February 28th, we will host the second annual World Scholar’s Cup event in Vietnam, bringing together students from all across Vietnam for a day of learning, leadership, and fun.

The World Scholar’s Cup is one of the most recognized, most joyful, and fastest-growing extracurricular activities in the world, with over 15,000 students set to participate at over 30 regional events in 2015. Last year ISHCMC hosted the World Scholar’s Cup and our students qualified to move on to a semifinal round in Singapore, and we can assure you that, although the World Scholar’s Cup may look like an academic competition at first glance, it is more aptly described as a celebration of learning—an inclusive enrichment experience in which students of all backgrounds work together to learn new subjects and skills.

As part of the program, students, in teams of three, undertake several academic and social challenges that encourage them to practice leadership and hone important skills. These include:

• Team Debate (collaboration, persuasive rhetoric, public speaking)

• Collaborative Writing (teamwork, analysis, written communication)

• Scholar’s Bowl (fast-paced group problem-solving)

• Scholar’s Challenge (interdisciplinary test of critical thinking skills)

• Debate Showcase (nominated speakers form new teams and lead a community discussion)

Winning teams in each division, junior (ages 10-14) and senior (ages 15+), will earn invitations to the 2015 Global Round in Kuala Lumpur, set to bring together 2,500 students from more than 40 countries, and a special year-end conference hosted by Yale University, the Tournament of Champions. The World Scholar’s Cup is a non-profit organization, meaning it makes all these events as accessible as possible for students of all backgrounds.

We hope you will join us for this special event.

pErsonal projEcts

The Middle School Football tournament begins on Friday 27th March at International Eastern Seaboard School in Thailand. You are able to keep up to date with how the team is doing via the following site: http://mrisajuniorfootballise2015.weebly.com

On this site you will find the tournament schedule, photographs from the tournament, updated results over the two days. ISE will provide video footage of the matches, with full coverage of every game on the Wembley pitch. The other two pitches (Bernabau and Maracana) will be covered by stationary cameras behind the net. The videos will be uploaded to ISE Publications channel on YouTube (Link on the website) as soon after the games as possible - therefore not to check the scores if you want to watch the game as though it was live!

Looking forward to an action packed and successful tournament.

The MYP personal project is a significant student-directed inquiry produced over an extended period, completed during Grade 10. It provides an excellent opportunity for students to produce a truly personal and creative work of their choice and to demonstrate the skills they have developed through their approaches to learning skills. It is a student-centred project that helps students construct their own conceptual understandings and build on their knowledge through action and reflection. The Personal Project Fair takes place on Tuesday March 17th. All parents are invited to come and see the wide variety of projects on display in the MPR.
