Thanks to everyone in our school community for a truly spectacular Term 3 that included several amazing whole school events, many special celebrations, countless opportunities for our students as well as many great achievements along the way. I thank all parents and staff for their ongoing support of our students and school. Special congratulations to all our wonderful students who have represented Barnier at Zone and Regional events as well as Public Speaking, Drama, Spelling Bee, PSSA, Dance, Choir, Debating and Wakakirri this term. We are very proud of you all!

Thank you to our hard working P&C

Our P&C work very hard to raise funds for our students and our school. They’ve organised a number of events this term that required a lot of time, planning and effort. All money raised comes back to the school to support our students and their

learning. Sincere and heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful P&C parents who work together, giving up their own time to support our students and our school. Your dedication and efforts are very greatly appreciated!

Stage 3 Camp

Student behaviour during our Stage 3 Camp was absolutely exemplary and all involved had an absolutely fantastic time despite the weather. Well done everyone!!

Special thanks to Ms Keane and Mr Thorpe for taking on the huge job of organising camp. They put in hours and hours of work in their own time to organise all aspects of this wonderful experience for our students and ensure that everything went smoothly.

Special thanks also must go to our stage 3 teachers and Ms Moon who gave up their time with their own families to ensure that students are able to experience a school camp. Teachers are on duty 24 hours a day without breaks while away at camp. They do not get paid any extra to do this. This is a gesture of goodwill on their part. They do it because they are dedicated and passionate educators who want the very best for our students. They take great care of our students, they work hard to ensure that students get the very most out of every learning opportunity presented to them at camp and arrive home safely. They have my sincere gratitude and admiration.

above’, our students would not have amazing and wonderful opportunities like camps, excursions, dance and performance groups, debating and technology experiences, public speaking experiences and higher level sporting opportunities. Teachers also work hard to ensure every student achieves the highest possible learning outcomes in all curriculum areas and are happy and safe at school. World Teacher’s Day is Saturday 5

th October. We’ll be celebrating it at

Barnier early next term. Take some time to thank your child’s teacher and let them know how valued they are. It will make their day!

Safety on School Days

Please follow road and parking laws at all times when dropping off and collecting students. Please

ensure your child crosses the road safely, always using the pedestrian crossings provided. The roads surrounding Barnier are very busy, particularly in the mornings and afternoons, please keep your children and yourselves safe.

Helping Children to Cross the Road Safely

We need to be realistic about children's developmental levels and not over-estimate their ability to judge safe distances. A small error can result in the child being seriously injured. To keep children safe, adults need to start by setting a good example. Children learn a lot just by watching.

If parents and older children behave in dangerous ways, younger children are likely to do so also. Older children may take greater risks dashing out between cars.

Pedestrian safety lessons need to start early when children have to cross busy intersections from a very young age.

For toddlers, parents can talk about what safety choices they make each time they cross the street, from looking both ways to making eye contact with drivers. By the time children are 4 or 5 years old, parents can start letting children make the decision about when it's safe to cross a street, starting with residential streets with light traffic before trying busy intersections. This lets parents gently correct bad choices so children can fine-tune their instincts about when it's safe to cross.

Talking to children about why they need to follow particular rules or procedures for crossing safely is a good approach, like pointing out the good sense in walking a little further to use a pedestrian crossing rather than take a risk.

This is a timely message as we approach the October school holidays.

Kindergarten 2020

If you have a child who is starting Kindergarten here at Barnier next year, please submit an enrolment application immediately. We need accurate anticipated numbers so that we can plan classes and staffing for 2020.

Please ring the school office on 9837 1600 if you need assistance with this.

We thank you sincerely for your support and assistance.

Our Kindergarten transition program commences next term, we are looking forward to meeting all our new Kindergarten students and supporting them through the commencement of their big school journey.

Social Media

Although social media is a great communication tool and is wonderful if used responsibly, it does have its disadvantages. Sometimes, information shared on social media presents one side of a situation or viewpoint and sometimes information placed onto social media sites is false. Sometimes people’s perceptions are based on what they believe is true, which may be far from the truth. It is unfortunate and unfair that this often happens without people having the opportunity to state the correct facts of a situation directly relating to them.

I ask all parents who have a concern about the wellbeing or education of their child to contact the school office immediately and make an appointment to speak with me or a member of my staff. We will ensure that fair process occurs for all concerned, we will ensure all incidents are thoroughly and fairly investigated, we will ensure that everyone has a voice and that actions will be taken in line with department policy in a highly professional, fair and completely confidential manner.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy school

holiday time. We look forward to seeing

everyone’s bright and happy faces back at

school on Monday 14th October as we

commence the final school term for 2019.

Warmest regards,

Mrs Mandy Hollis

Stage 3 Camp

Stage 3 students had a blast last week at Broken Bay camp despite the challenges of the

weather! Highlights of the jammed-packed and energetic week included fun on the ropes

course and flying fox, the night shows and games, fishing, archery, making damper and

the very tiring but exciting bushwalk discovering various flora and fauna. A special thanks

to all teachers and camp staff who attended the 5-day camp and ensured all students had

a memorable and amazing camp experience.

Thank you Miss Moon, Miss Keane, Mrs Hayhow, Mrs Reedy, Mrs Soltan, Mr Thorpe, Miss Hansell, Mr Stuart, Miss White and Mrs Feltham!

On Thursday Kylie from Bunnings Warehouse, Blacktown visited Barnier Public School to help us

maintain our kitchen garden and start our bush tucker garden.

4T, 5S and 6H students did an excellent job helping our kitchen garden by giving it a super feed,

watering it and laying down some mulch so that all our vegetables are happy in their new home. They

are now so happy we have our first beans and flowers.

To continue our companion planting we added basil and parsley. Parsley is a good neighbour to our

beans, encouraging growth. Basil is said to repel mosquitos and flies. It also improves the flavour of its

neighbour.

Our Marigold is said to repel white fly and root knot nematode.

The Environmental group was very lucky to meet some slimy guests who are now happily living in their

new worm farm. We got the opportunity to learn about the benefits of worms in our garden and how their

castings and ”tea” keeps our soil healthy.

1A continued their investigation into the parts of a plant by viewing the roots, stems, and leaves of some

native varieties. We planted an Australian Plum Pine, Black Apple, Dianella Flax Lily, Tamarind and

native violets.

We also learnt some interesting facts about bush tucker. We can’t wait until some berries or flowers

appear which we can taste!

Thankyou to Bunnings Warehouse, Blacktown who donated worms and native plants to continue the growth of our garden along with providing valuable knowledge which enriched our learning experience.

START YOUR CARER JOURNEY WITH US

Do you have a place in your heart and home to make a difference to a child’s life?

Make a difference. Become a carerContact My Forever Family NSW now to find out how you can become a foster carer.

My Forever Family NSW | www.myforeverfamily.org.au

At the moment, there aren’t enough foster carers to care for children in need across New South Wales. Put simply, we need more carers for all types of care.

There is a type of care to suit your family:• Emergency care: A temporary haven for kids when

first need a safe place to stay.

• Respite care: Respite carers look after children on an occasional basis to give their regular carers a break.

• Short-term care: Short-term carers look after children while their families work to bring them home.

• Adoptive parents and guardians: When kids can’t return home, adoption or guardianship provides them with the safety and stability they need to thrive.

A special community awaits you. The My Forever Family NSW program provides ongoing support, advice and training for all foster carers, guardians and adoptive parents.

Dear Families, It has been an exciting term and we thank you for being involved with our Father’s Day celebrations and Let it Glow Disco. For the Let it Go disco we had a team of dedicated volunteers and teachers collaborating to make sure all students had a great time. It was all hands on deck to buy all the supplies, create 600 tickets, organise the playlist and coordinate classrooms and hotdog orders. We spent time dressing the hall with streamers, balloons, lights and shimmer to 'Let It Glow'. It was exciting to see it come together with the glowing children in their disco outfits, excited on the dance floor jumping, skipping and dancing in the dark. A special THANK YOU goes out to Kylie Gleeson, Kim Hough, Janet Fakes, Catriona Noble, Rhiannon Iacono and Pam Layton, all the teachers who helped us with coordinating students and all the dedicated wonderful parents, who helped us with face painting, supervision, food collection and sales. The success of the event was possible because of the school, teacher and student collaboration. It’s amazing what can happen with unity and working towards a common goal. We are excited and planning the Colour Explosion coming up on the 23rd of October. We are looking for parent volunteers to help us on the day. Please email your availability to: [email protected] or complete your availability to volunteer with your child's permission slip to participate in the Colour Explosion. All notes for the Colour Explosion have been handed out to your children. A copy of the note is available on the school website. We wish all families a safe and exciting holiday.

NEXT P&C Meeting

Don’t forget if you want a say in the types of events we should run or where the funds should be spent, please come along to our P&C meetings. It costs $1 to join and you will be able to vote and receive the agenda and minutes. The next meeting is on Monday 14th October at 7:30pm in the library.
