And I cannot thank you enough for the many times this year that I personally have reached out to all of you for donations. We were able to provide school supplies and books to the children on the free lunch programs in coordination with Thomas’ Promises and the Elks Club, suitcases to Guardian ad Litem for many foster children, and yarn to the Elks Club to make into lap blankets for the veterans. And we donated money to Sunrise of Pasco and the Owl’s Nest Sanctuary. I want to also thank Paula Chaney for always greeting our members with a big smile at each and every meeting, Kathy Gilliam and Mona Goossens for always helping with the 50/50 which has helped to increase our program budget for this coming year, and Sharon Willment for always filling in and keeping track of all of the things that happen at board and club meetings.

January 10 – General Meeting

Happy New Year!!! And it has been a stellar year for the Women’s

Club of Lake Jovita. You all have shown what it is to be a club of

giving, smiling, talented, happy women. We welcomed over 40 new

members this past year, published the most beautiful cookbook ever

thanks to the leadership of Ann Swinford, renamed the club and

voted on our very own logo with the help of Sharon Borland’s family,

Natalie, Brian Van Holten, and of course, Ella, and supported

multiple charities and food banks all by being the women that we

are!! And we learned a thing or two about rescuing and healing our

precious wildlife, hearing from a Pulitzer Prize winning author about

the story of a lonely, abused little “girl in the window”, and studying

the historical Christmas moments through the decades from a D.A.R.

leader. We had a Broadway production in May—our fashion show!

I don’t have any idea how it can be topped, but I know that our tag

team duo of Mariellen Blackstone and Leslie Colello will surprise us

all this April. Have no fear, it will be stupendous! And we had our

hearts pumping and our feet jumping twice with the tunes of Alan

Darcy in November and William “Deuce” Hulett in September- boy,

can this club whoop it up!! I’ve always said that Lake Jovita has the

youngest “senior" people on the planet. No grass grows under our

feet!!

Kathy Hunt from Restored Hope thanked us all for the food

contributions made by each and every one of you in December. Her

food bank can start up the new year with over 350 pounds of non-

perishable items all donated in just one night of giving. As I have

said in the past, the season of giving may be over, but the need never

stops. So, please remember to buy some extra items when you shop

and drop them off at Restored Hope in Dade City, or Kathy Hunt’s

house on Lake Jovita Blvd. She cares so much about preventing

homelessness, and this is one way that we all can give to those less

fortunate. And I cannot thank you enough for the many times this

year that I personally have reached out to all of you for donations.

We were able to provide school supplies and books to the children on

the free lunch programs in coordination with Thomas’ Promises and

the Elks Club, suitcases to Guardian ad Litem for many foster

children, and yarn to the Elks Club to make into lap blankets for the

veterans. And we donated money to Sunrise of Pasco and the Owl’s

Nest Sanctuary.

I want to also thank Paula Chaney for always greeting our members

with a big smile at each and every meeting, Kathy Gilliam and Mona

Goossens for always helping with the 50/50 which has helped to

increase our program budget for this coming year, and Sharon

Willment for always filling in and keeping track of all of the things

that happen at board and club meetings.

And last but not least, many, many thank you’s to Basia Watts for keeping our online directory, sending out our

club news blasts, and creating the most remarkable newsletters and Evites. And also for kicking me in the butt

when I procrastinate in writing the newsletter!!

There was also a remarkable new venue and craft show all organized and coordinated by our own Teresa

Overbeck and Patti Wieclaw. It was a great event and considering it was our first year in the clubhouse with

outside vendors, it was a creative, gorgeous and fun filled event!! I can’t thank Maria Kinney and Patti Wieclaw

enough for the inspiring and colorful decorations provided by their imagination and economical creativity for

each and every monthly meeting. Nowhere can you walk into a fully decorated “themed” room the second

Thursday of every month, and have a party for 100 women, and enjoy the camaraderie of our ladies, and see,

hear, and learn from talented program presenters for less than $4.00 an event!! Ladies, it is a real bargain to be a

member of this club!! And our program committee which will be headed up this year by our own lovely Mrs.

Kimberly Hasler (she loves having you call her that! LOL!), has so many diverse programs in the works. Our

pearl guy had to cancel for February, but Kim and the committee are busy in trying to find an expert gemologist

—so dust off those diamonds sitting in the safe because February’s "Denim and Diamonds" will be fabulous.

And, of course, our fashion show will be in full swing in April—I don’t know what it will be, but the producers of

Hamilton are scouting the event! Again, I can’t thank everyone enough for their contributions to the “too many”

to mention times we have had in our club at our meetings. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!

But we have more to come, so on with the list:

1. Please pay your dues. We have already had a very successful drive and have received 2019 dues from 111

members. That is quite a feat!! We are again publishing a hard copy of the Women’s Club of Lake Jovita

Directory, but the drop dead cut off for paying your dues and being included in this directory is January 31, 2019.

The book will go to print on February 1, 2019. Teresa will check the club mailbox and if your checks are not

received by January 31st, you will be left out of the hard copy. Basia will always enter new and renewing

members after that date for the online directory, but the hard copy will be sent to Tampa Type on the first of

February. So, don’t forget those checkbooks at the January meeting which will be a hoot and a half with our

fashion show of the best economical shopper of Lake Jovita!! Please come and enjoy this fun filled event!

2. Our membership committee has new leadership thanks to Gloria Provenzano and Gloria LoCicero. Thank

you ladies for stepping up to the plate and volunteering to spearhead our very important effort in notifying new

residents and obtaining new members for our club. It is very important to let our ladies know about us—we are

so special, and I want every lady living in Lake Jovita or who is a member of the Lake Jovita Country Club to be

aware of their ability to join our club and meet the greatest ladies on earth!! I boast too much—but it’s true! I

can’t thank Betty Leslie and Barb Fuller enough for making this a great year for our membership enrollment—

you both did such a phenomenal job!!

3. Ann Swinford got a new camera!! Guess what?? She has volunteered to become our new photographer! So

when Ann pops by your table at the meetings, don’t forget to smile because you will be in the newsletter. Thank

you to Mary Clark and the many photographers who helped to provide pictures of the moments in our meetings

every month. We love seeing them in our newsletters, and Basia does a fantastic job of incorporating them into

an eye appealing newsletter for us. Thank you!!

Again, have a remarkable and healthy New Year!!
