From The Principal’s Office

Well what a great couple of weeks it has been. We have noticed the grade 6 students really getting ready and excited about their next step in their school

journey. They still have their graduation and orientation days to attend. It is a great time to reflect on how much they have grown over this very important road to adulthood. A reminder that all student have their orientation day on the 10th of December where we move up the next year level until lunch, we will having our annual picnic sports in the middle part of the day too. THANK YOU MORNING TEA As well as the children reflect the end of a year brings about reflections for adults also. This is time of the year when Drouin West Primary school staff reflect on the importance and value of community. For us this is a positive and grateful reflection. At Drouin West Primary School we are so fortunate to have so many amazing supports with our parents and guardians. Within our school we have people who assist us with fundraising, mother’s day and father’s day stalls, hot dog day, footy fun day, reading, book covering, gardening, sewing, and those who take roles on the school council. To acknowledge the work that all of our support workers do we would like to send an open invitation to all of our supports to join us in a morning tea, in the multi-purpose room at 11 am on Wednesday the 11th of December. Please drop by and allow us to say thank you for all that you do for us. STUDENT LEADERSHIP We have also had students working really hard to show off their skills. Great class work we have noticed includes work in; debating, persuasive writing, poetry writing, community programs and children progressing greatly in their reading levels. It is so important to note that even towards the end of a very long term we still have so much learning going on. You may have also noticed a bit on singing going on at home getting us all ready for the great end

of year concert, which is sure to be a fun night for everyone. Looking forward to 2020 it is so exciting to see and plan for new developments around our school. One thing that you will notice is a change of our student leadership program in 2020. The Student Representative Council has been working hard to put together the new student leadership structure for 2020. This structure is outlined below. Mrs. Wainwright has been around to all of the grade 3, 4 and 5 students to inform them of what is available for student leadership roles in 2020. She has also gone over the application process and criteria. If students are interested in these opportunities they can see they job descriptions in the Leadership booklets places in each classroom or they can attend a special briefing on Monday the 2nd of December, in Miss Westall’s room, to gain any further details about applying. Applications are to be hand written and are due to the office by Friday the 6th of December. All positions are yearly positions School Captains X4 House Captains x2 per house Environmental Captains X2 Library Captains X2 Technology Captains X2 SRC Captains X2 Communications Captains X2 BREAKFAST CLUB Department of Education have offered us to have a sponsored Breakfast Club. This will provide the opportunity for our students to have some brekky together. This will be open to all students, we will have it for 3 mornings a week and it will in the current Science room. Days will be confirmed by the end of the year. We are so excited to have this, it will be from 8.30am. If you are interested in helping with this, please let us know. Have a great rest of the week, take care Kelly Halliday & Kerrie Wainwright.

Our Chaplain

Hello everyone! Hope you are going ok and the year hasn’t got too crazy for you yet! I just wanted to let you know that I will be away on Long Service Leave for the next 3 weeks. But will be back for the last week of term. My daughter and I, along with 2 other Mums and their daughters are heading off an adventure to Papua New Guinea. We will be flying to Lae and then boarding a medical ship for 2 weeks. We will be providing Primary Health Care and assistance with dental and ophthalmology. We are going along as general volunteers and assisting the medical volunteers carry out the health work in remote villages and on board the ship. We are not really sure what to expect. We believe we will be walking through thick mud to get to villages and need plenty of deet to protect ourselves from the mossies that carry malaria and we are taking a box of sea sickness tablets! However, it’s one of those opportunities that we didn’t want to pass up. Spending precious time together as a mother and daughter, with our friends and helping those who don’t have access to the same level of medical care we have in Australia. I look forward to seeing everyone again in the last week of term. In the meantime if you have any concerns then please let your child’s teacher know or one of our senior staff members. We know that research says that parents and staff working together provide the very best outcome for our children.

Take care! Wendy Ronalds
