Study Tour I would like to extend a warm welcome to our students from Yungang Primary School in China. We also welcome their teachers. The group will be with us for the week. They were very excited about our excursion to Shoalhaven Zoo yesterday.

Book Week Thank you to Mrs McGee and Mrs Ridgeway for all of their great work and preparation in organising a fabulous, fun day. The students also enjoyed chatting with DC Green, our visiting author. Building Update Work will begin on the demolition of old classrooms in approximately 4 weeks. This is very exciting news. District Athletics Good luck to all students who will be competing at the district carnival this week. Students will be competing over two days in both field and track events. Mr Burns and Mr Jennings will be supervising the team over the two days. Go Gwynneville! We can’t wait to hear how you all go. Archibull Prize Our entry for the 2018 Archibull Prize is well under way. The children in 6P have been working very hard and as you can see they are doing a great job. We need your help in naming our cow. The name needs to be creative and relate to our Agricultural Industry – Horticulture. If you have any suggestions are to be given to a year 6 student or Mrs Devlin. Premiers Sporting Challenge The Premiers Sporting Challenge is well underway and the children are working hard to achieve their diamond, gold Silver or bronze awards. Our goal as a school is to increase the level of physical activity that our students are doing at school and at home. As a part of the challenge, students in senior grades will have a visit from one of the Ambassadors for the Premiers Sporting Challenge, Matt Buntine from the Greater Western Sydney AFL team. He will speaking to the students as well as doing some skills and drills with them. PSSA Sport Term 3 PSSA sport is basketball. Students will go each Friday for 5 weeks to Beaton Park to play against other schools in our district. Students will also have Illawarra Hawks players taking them through skills sessions each week. Healthy Bones Action Week 20

th August – 26

th August 2018

Healthy Bones Action week is a national health education incentive designed to encourage all Australians to take three simple actions to build strong and healthy bones to prevent osteoporosis in later life. 1. Have calcium-rich dairy foods e.g. milk, cheese and yoghurt, 2. Do weight bearing exercise and 3. Spending time outdoors for vitamin D Lunchtime Activities This week we will be starting our lunchtime and recess activities. Timetables will be up around the school for students to see where each of the activities will be. Activities include gardening, crochet/knitting, card games, lego, book club, colouring/drawing, outside games, handball, board games and zentangle art to name a few. Gardening News Many of our junior classes have been planting seeds and watching them grow. We have been getting the soil ready to plant the seedlings and will have them in this week. We hope to have a good crop of produce over the coming months. Mural Competition

We are looking for a design to be painted on our compost bins. The winning entry will be painted by our

gardening group onto the bins. Designs need to be done on an A4 piece of paper with your name

and class. Please hand designs into Mr Burns or Mrs Devlin.

Mrs Tracy Devlin

Book and Education Week 2018

“Find Your Treasure” We would like to say a big thank you to all the students, parents and staff of Gwynneville PS for contributing to our terrific celebration once again this year. It was a huge success, starting with a highly entertaining talk by a local author ‘DC Green’. DC Green had the students captivated by his humour and had some effective writing strategies to share. Our day continued with students participating in a variety of Literacy based activities with their buddy classes. It was so positive

to look around to find students reading to their buddy in the sunshine and engaged in craft activities. As always, our day culminated with our annual Book Week Parade. The students (and staff) all looked amazing in their costumes. Another big thank you goes to our fabulous Year 6 leaders Abbey and Liam for their help in running the parade and to Miss Lawrie for her compilation of music for our students to parade to. Mrs Emma McGee and Mrs Kate Ridgway
