Our Outreach service which offers
one to one support to enable the
elderly and those with disabilities
to live independently is becoming
better known and therefore more
people are able to benefit from
individual personalised care.
We have Open Gardens in June
and July and our Open Day in
August - plenty to read about in
the following pages!

SHOP VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We are always looking for people
to help out in the ARRCC Charity
Shop in Rye.
If interested please contact Irene
on 07851802900
We have had an active spring
leading into an even busier
Summer.
This month saw us take delivery of
a new bus. Our drivers have
worked beyond the call of duty in
maintaining services with 3 buses,
one of which they had to nurse to
keep on the road. However with a
generous donation, and the help
of Alan Deeprose from Wilmoth's
vehicle sales, we now have a very
comfortable Citroen Bus, just in
time for the summer and
extended trips out!
We have started monthly
afternoon dances with tea and
cake taking place on the last
Friday of the month, from June
24th we will hold the dances at
the Community Centre in Tilling
Green, Rye. Entrance will be free
or small donations gratefully
accepted, with refreshments
available to purchase. We would
like to encourage all members of
the community to join us,
including those living with
dementia and their carers.

ART TRIPS TO RYE HARBOUR
On Wednesday 23rd March we went on our first Rye Harbour trip of the season. We were lucky with weather and Francis enjoyed sketching the scenery and boats. Anne and Neil enjoyed taking photographs and of course Anne paid the obligatory visit to the gift shop! We have since been on two more successful trips.
The 5th April Ann and Linda enjoyed sketching and enjoying
LINDA’S ARTISTIC ADVENTURES
I enjoy different activities in the
art room as it gives me a chance
to be creative and do things that I
would not normally have the
confidence to do.
I have visited Rye Harbour and
undertaken charcoal and pencil
drawings of the mews. I have
made a number of mosaics and
experimented with different
methods of painting. I enjoyed the
watercolour class with Trish
TOTE BAG WORKSHOPS
Members Linda, Sue, Lidia & Ann
have been learning how to make
tote bags with expert seamstress
Chris. The bags are for some to
take home or to sell at our
forthcoming garden parties. The
new skills learnt have included
Using the sewing machine, cutting
from a pattern and designing your
own bag.
and also had another good
morning when we started
flower arranging with Natalie.
All the results were so
different a really beautiful and
we have further dates planned
for this.
While at ARRCC I also enjoy
time in the garden, planting up
and watching things grow.

We’re All MAD Here!
We are currently brainstorming
ideas for decorating Rae
Festing’s Garden for our Alice In
Wonderland Themed event. We
are collecting playing cards,
teapots etc. so if anyone has any
of these items we are very
grateful! We have also been
experimenting with fabric
printing which ties in nicely with
our bag making projects. On
Friday 20th May we had an all-
day fabric printing workshop,
members & staff achieved a lot
and had lots of fun! Watch this
space for tote bags and cushions
made from our own Wonderland
inspired designs which will be on
sale at our garden party.

We enjoyed the music, dancing, fish & chips of course and general atmosphere of celebration.
Piers are such an iconic part of the British Seaside and our Heritage and despite the rain many gathered by the main stage with a real sense of pride, smiles on faces as the journey of the past few years was reflected on. Let's hope it is as bigger catalyst to regeneration of the area as is

Her other passion is baking and
Kim and other members
produced some lovely cupcakes a
few weeks ago and she will be
baking a lemon drizzle cake
next. Kim has told me that ARRCC
has made a real difference to her
life as before she would not leave
the house due to her anxieties of
new people and different
surroundings. She has been out
with us on several trips and coped
very well and appreciates the
support that we have given her.
Nichola Streets,
Deputy Care Manager
Hazel is currently producing a
shark made from Mod-Roc gauze
with plaster over chicken wire for
her brother which she is very
proud of. Her confidence in the
Art room has boomed and she
feels she can now attempt more
challenging projects.

“I’ve been coming to ARRCC
since the start! I most like to do
the garden which I enjoy
working on because I feel it is
not just for me, it’s something
everyone can enjoy and also the
music which I feel benefits me
and helps me with singing
techniques when I go to the
monastery. I look forward to
coming in on the days we do
these activities. I also really like
getting to know people and the
way we all help each other out.
ARRCC also helps me in the
respect of being a carer for
another ARRCC member as that
is a lot of work at home and
coming to ARRCC gives me a
break and a chance to do
something totally different than
at home.”

“What I like most about coming
to ARRCC is the social
interaction, otherwise I just see
the same carer every day. I like
seeing and meeting new people.
When I first started I used to
paint at home but now find
myself doing that a lot more due
to the influence of the art room.
I never get bored here. I also like
going out on the trips and have
a lot of support from the staff.,
particularly Elaine who has
helped me with sorting out a lot
of things.”
What ARRCC means to me…
Inspired by our Open Gardens Theme this
year at Rye, Stuart has produced a series
of Alice In Wonderland character sketches!

Kevin, Rye
“I didn’t know anybody when I
first came here and it was a bit
strange but now I feel happy as
I feel I can do things and really
join in. I like working with Sam
on songs and drama and with
the Art Room tutors. I have
become the pompom master! I
particularly enjoyed learning
lino printing with Ellen and have
sold one of my lino prints! I have
made friends and look forward
to coming in and am looking
forward to hopefully coming in
on another day soon.”

During the discussion, visitors
were given an insight into the
practice and approach of three
very different disciplines and
learnt about what drives each to
work in the way they do. The
