I hope you all had a Happy Easter and a restful break. Next week we invite members of our school community to join us in the Merbein RSL ANZAC parade and service. As a school, we join with the community to remember and pay respects to those who fought in World War 1, and many other wars and conflicts since then. I ask that you meet with us at 9:00 a.m. ready to start the march at 9:15 a.m. sharp in the main street, with all children in their full school uniform. This week we welcome Leanne Moore to the OLSH staff as a Learning Support Officer. She will be working in the junior primary classes. This will be following our Family Movie night on the Saturday night, with already 140 responses for the night! Come along and enjoy a great social night. Chris Brouwers, Principal. Sunraysia Partnership Council – School and Parish Families Invitation. On the evening of Wednesday, April 26 th , there will be a discussion forum and meal for School Parents and Parish Members led by Phil Billington, an external facilitator who works in Religious Education. It will be held in the Monaghan Centre at Sacred Heart in Mildura, and will cover topics like value based Religious Education values versus tradition values grounded on tradition and based on the teachings of Christ our Catholic tradition The forum will go for around an hour and a half, and will include a light meal. If you are interested in attending this, can you please let me know by Thursday morning for catering purposes? Please give Chris a call at school on 5025 2258 if you require further information. A big welcome to Ned Stoetzer, new baby son for Casey Stoetzer and his partner Marita. Ned was born on Saturday 15 th April. Congratulations! Welcome back to term 2. I hope you all had a fantastic holiday and Easter. First up this term we have our Movie Night this Saturday night!!! I know there are some really excited kids looking forward to the night. We hope to see you there! Don’t forget to bring along something to snuggle under and comfy to sit on. All information is in the flyer below. We will get some dates set out soon for meetings this term so if you can come along to them it will be great to see you. We will also need someone to help with the job of Secretary, so have a think about this also please. Have a great week!

Message from BUSLINK: Buslink Sunraysia would like to advise all schools staff, parents and students the rules of carrying scooters and skateboards on-board all Buslink Sunraysia services. Part 2 of the Transport (Compliance and Miscellaneous) (Conduct on Public Transport) Regulations 2015 states the following; Division 1 – General conduct offences Conveying or bringing things likely to injure or endanger (1) A person in or on a public transport vehicle or public transport premises must not convey or bring, or attempt to convey or bring, anything that is likely to injury or endanger another person or damage property. Penalty: 10 penalty units. (2) A person must not convey or bring, or attempt to convey or bring, anything into or onto a public transport vehicle or public transport premises if an employee of a passenger transport company, a rail freight operator, Rail Track or a bus company has, in the course of the

employee’s duties, informed the person that the thing is likely to injure or endanger any person or likely to damage the public transport vehicle or any property if it is conveyed or brought into or onto the public transport vehicle or public transport premises. Penalty: 15 penalty units. As per the above, Buslink Sunraysia has made it policy that students and/or passengers cannot board any Buslink Sunraysia vehicle with a scooter that is not folded at the base and placed in a bag ie. School bag or carry bag. Skateboards cannot also be carried on-board any vehicle if it is not placed in a bag. For safe travel of all passengers, all scooters and skateboards must be placed in a carry bag and scooters be folded at the base.

Whole school assemblies are held on Friday mornings at 9.00am and we invite families and friends to join us at these. Assemblies will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room. April 21st – Yr 3

NEWSLETTERS Newsletters are sent home/emailed every Tuesday. We email the newsletter to parents only. If you prefer the newsletter to be sent home in hard copy as well please let the office know.

ANZAC DAY ~ TUESDAY, APRIL 25TH

We will be participating as a School Community in the

Merbein ANZAC Day Commemorative Service on

Tuesday, April 25th. The march starts at 9.15am sharp

and we ask that students assemble at the Merbein RSL,

Commercial Street at 9.00am. The march will then

proceed to the Kenny Park Memorial gates for the

laying of wreaths and then onto the Rotunda for the

Commemorative Service. All students are invited to be

part of the March and Service for the laying of our

school wreath etc. We would like to ensure that we are

represented by our School Captains and School

Leaders. All participating students are to wear correct

school uniform (green polo shirts). Please ensure

students remain with the school during the ceremony.

Family members are welcome to march with us. Please

indicate if you will be attending the march on the form

at the end of the newsletter.

GRADE PREP NEWS

Welcome to Term 2! I hope everyone had a wonderful break. - Prep homework and Show and Tell will start next week (Week Two). Further info will be sent home during the week. - Prep students will be taking home their Art Folders this week. These folders contain their artwork from Term 1. The folders remain with the students for their duration at school so need to be looked after. Once their folder is emptied please return the folder to the classroom so they can be filled and sent home again at the end of this term.

- Next Tuesday is ANZAC day. This is a student free day. - There are no icy poles during Terms 2 and 3. They resume in Term 4.

GRADE ONE NEWS

Welcome back to Term Two. I hope you all had an enjoyable break. Readers- Thank you to students who completed some reading over the holidays. Word Lists- Please keep practicing all list words even ones completed early last term. Some students are still miss spelling these when writing. Homework- No homework this week. Show and Tell- This week’s topic is ‘Something from your holidays’. A new list of topics will be sent home today Library- Students need their library bag on Friday.

GRADE TWO NEWS

Welcome Back to Term Two! I hope you all had a very relaxing break and enjoyable Easter. Homework will begin in week 2 and as always will be

due back on Friday's. Show and Tell will also begin next week in week 2.

Students are expected to do some planning for their sharing time as part of their homework. This may be organising some notes or a prop to help them.

Sport days are Tuesday and Friday. Library is on a Thursday. Lastly, I will be away on Wednesday as I will be in Adelaide at my Graduation. I will be back on Thursday. I look forward to a busy Term Two!

GRADE THREE NEWS

There is only reading for homework this week. We have assembly this Friday.

GRADE FOUR B NEWS

Welcome back to all students in Grade 4B. I look forward to working with you all again in Term 2. Equipment: A reminder to bring a drink bottle and diary to school each day.

GRADE FOUR S NEWS

Welcome back to a fresh term. Just a few reminders. Library- We will be swapping our books over every Monday. If your child needs a new reader during the week, I am more than happy to swap them any time. Art Display- Our class will have artwork displayed in the Multipurpose Room until the 1st of May. Homework- No homework this week due to a short week. Try to continue with home reading. On Friday the 28th (Week 2) I will be attending an RE day. A CRT will be taking the grade.

This coming Sunday is Sister Marion’s farewell parish Mass at 10:30am. It would be great to see many people there to bid their farewells. Signing in & out: A reminder to everyone that when visiting the School during a normal school day (9.15am – 3.00pm) you must enter the school via the Office and sign in if you wish to enter the school, and sign out when leaving the school. No one is permitted to be in

Drink bottles: All students are required to have a drink bottle in the classroom filled with water only.

Working with Children Checks (WWCC): Any parents and friends who plan to have any direct involvement in the School’s classes, activities, functions etc. are required to undertake a WWCC. Forms are available online.

Before & After School Supervision: The outside classroom supervision of students begins at 8.25am and concludes at 3.40pm.

Trestles & Chairs: P & F have 15 trestles and 130 chairs which are available to the School community and friends to hire. Hire charge will be $1 chair and $5 a trestle. Please contact the office for more information.
