Newsletter: September, 2014 President’s Message – Debbie Strobel We had a fun meeting last night with about a dozen people in attendance. We had one visitor who became a new member! Welcome to Dottie Funk. She has been attending Virmarie’s class at the Art Center for quite a while, but she Dinally made it to a meeting and decided to join. Once again, Lois did a wonderful job of setting up a “challenge” for us to paint. The challenge was actually taken from a Facebook group she belongs to call 52 Weeks – Nature Painting Challenge. We were given two photos to choose from and encouraged to interpret them however we wanted. Some cropped in tight, others went abstract, a few chose to go with a traditional painting…there was no wrong way to do it! As you can see from the photos, we came out with very different but great results. You may want to join the group on Facebook so you can continue to be challenged each week. I did. You should all have received an email if you entered our Juried Show. If you did not, please let me know. We have found some trouble with them sending to Gmail accounts. That email will give you the instructions for dropping off your paintings if they were accepted. Our opening reception and awards will be on Sunday, Oct. 5 th from 24 pm at the Cox Center. Our judge, Lyuba Bogan, will be presenting the awards at that time. Please make plans to be there and invite your friends and family. And please volunteer to help Shelley Gentry with the reception. She needs volunteers to bring food and drinks.
