WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLY – R. Morgan Our first Whole School Assembly for 2019 will be held in the Gym tomorrow, Friday 1st March starting at 2:15pm. Whole school assemblies are an important event where we come together to celebrate the wonderful things that happen at Merbein P-10 College. At this assembly our student school leaders will be inducted and officially receive their leadership badge. We will also present our Student of the Month Awards, acknowledging the many students that regularly display the college’s values of Respect, Responsibility and Quality. Our whole school assemblies are an open event and we warmly welcome families to join us.

AFTER SCHOOL - BUS TRAVELLERS AND PICKUPS After school, all students must be in areas of the school that are supervised by Yard Duty teachers. This applies whether students are catching a bus or being picked-up by car. This is to ensure the safety of students and is a legal requirement.

All Secondary students catching buses must go straight to the bus stop after school and remain within sight of supervising teachers.

All Primary students catching buses must follow the instructions of supervising teachers and remain in designated areas.

Students being collected by car in Park Street must wait in sight of supervising teachers.

Students being collected by car on Commercial Street must wait at the main entrance to the school or area in front of the Green Building.

The Game Street entrance to the College is not a designated pick-up and drop-off area and is not supervised before or after school.

SECONDARY NEWS

CONGRATULATIONS – J. Williams Great results from our students Eleanore, Lucy, Angus, Kat and Gideon who competed in St Arnaud last week, running for the Mildura Fire Brigade. A huge effort. Well done! YEAR 8 CAMP – J. Williams The camp begins next week, on Monday 4th March. A minimum of $250 towards the camp cost must be paid by tomorrow morning, Friday 1st March. Payment can be paid by direct deposit. BSB - 063 714 Bank Acc Number – 10060535 Account Name - Merbein P-10 College Official Account. Students who have not made this payment by tomorrow, or have not made arrangements to pay by instalments, will be informed that they will be unable to attend the camp. If you are not sure if you have paid, ring the school’s main office and check with the office staff.

QUIET STUDY/HOMEWORK TIMES IN THE LIBRARY – L. Palamara Students will now be able to use Library Room 1 for quiet study and homework, at lunchtimes. The room will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will be supervised by a teacher. Students will also be able to use computers to assist them with completing their work. Students will not be able to use their phones, bring food or drinks into the Library.

HUMANITIES NEWS – K. James Last week in Humanities some of our Year 8s explored the topic of Feudalism in Medieval society by using food as an example of wealth & power. As you can see from the photos our ‘king’ was very happy with the final taxes tally, our ‘peasants/serfs’ less so.

ENGLISH NEWS – K. James Secondary students have commenced their fortnightly library sessions in English. Students return, borrow and read novels during these sessions. They are also expected to write reflections on what they have read to encourage active thinking about their reading. Ask your child what book they are reading at the moment.

DOCTORS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS Remember our doctor’s room is open every Tuesday from 10am–3pm for secondary students. Student appointments can be made through staff at the school or by calling the Merbein Family Practice on 03 5025 2511 or students can simply drop into the rooms at recess or lunch on Tuesdays. This is a great service, not just when students are sick but for things like prescriptions, asthma and anaphylaxis plans, catch-up immunisations, mental health and any other issues

facing secondary students. Students will need to

give their Medicare Card details to the GP

clinic. An easy way to do this is for the

student to take a photo of the card on their

phone. Parents do not need to attend appointments with students but are very welcome to come along if the students wish.
